It's been a while since I last posted here, but something has been on my mind, and I'd love for us to discuss it.

Graphic design is a growing industry, with beginners, intermediates, and professionals emerging daily. Yet, I can assure you—the industry is far from saturated. More designers are born every day, and one recurring challenge we all face is determining "How much should I charge for my work?"

Before throwing out a random figure, it’s essential to consider the actual value of what you’re offering and account for the following:

Time: How many hours or days did it take to complete that design?

Training: How much have you invested in yourself through courses, tutorials, and workshops to refine your skills?

Data and Resources: With many gigs handled online today, how much data did you use to source design elements, communicate with clients, and deliver your work?

Recently, a client asked how much I charge for a birthday flyer. I quoted N7,000, but she exclaimed, "Haba! I thought it was a N1,000 job." To accommodate her, I said she could pay N5,000 as a seasonal discount, but her response was, “I can do this with AI.”

I simply replied, “That's okay.”

Here's the lesson: never underprice your work, because when you do, you undervalue yourself. Graphic design is a profession, just like being a doctor, lawyer, or engineer.

Now, let’s be real—what can N1,000 buy in Nigeria today? It's not even equivalent to one dollar.

Dear graphic designers, be proud of your craft. Keep sharpening your skills, learning, and challenging yourself with complex designs. Pay for courses, upgrade your tools, and never stop growing.

If you're designing on a smartphone, aim higher. Transition to advanced tools like CorelDRAW or Photoshop.

Whatever you do, make 2025 count!

Earlier this year, I made the decision to take Photoshop seriously. Determined to master it, I invested in courses, explored countless YouTube tutorials, and tapped into every available resource. But the transition wasn't easy. Photoshop, being a raster-based application structured by layers, felt overwhelming compared to the simplicity of CorelDRAW, my first love, which operates on vectors.

The confusion became so frustrating that I temporarily returned to CorelDRAW. But by August, I knew I couldn't give up on Photoshop. I revisited my courses and, with the guidance of some incredible individuals who had mastered the software, things began to click. Their willingness to answer my questions, even with their busy schedules, was invaluable.

This note is a heartfelt thank-you to those amazing individuals who helped me navigate this journey. Bosses like Adeniyi OluwaJuwonlo Adeniji Abdullahi Akinola Chisom Ogbonna .

Learning can be challenging, but it's always rewarding. Stay focused, and you'll unlock new depths of knowledge you never imagined.

Now, as 2025 approaches, I'm reflecting on my journey and setting new goals. For me, the new year means honing my skills further, exploring new tools, and increasing the value I bring to my craft. Most importantly, I'm aiming to make 2025 more profitable than 2024.
