This is how I gracefully attended, The Coal Fashion Experience held between June 24-25, 2023.

A two-day fashion show which witnessed captivating and electrifying musical performances from music artists like LEGENDARY SUNI, RIC HASSANI and UGOCCIE; not forgetting rib-cracking jokes from comedians and of course, variety of fashion displays.

Dear Somebody,

It will be nice if you can search through your bags, boxes, under the bed or pillow, in the couch, inside your books, pockets of your trousers, shirts, skirts, gowns and see if there are old 200, 500 and 1000 naira currencies.

Kindly take it to the bank and request for new notes.

It's just three days to January 31 deadline for collection of those old notes.

Thank goodness banks were open yesterday being Saturday 28 January and today Sunday, January 29 for depositing those old notes.

Take advantage of this now to avoid "Had I known"

Oprah Winfrey went from wearing potato sacks to a media mogul worth $2,500,000,000.

Here's the story and 3 lessons worth your time🧵

Vernita Lee gives birth to Oprah as a teen.

And Oprah grows up in rural Mississippi and lives with her grandma til age 6.

Her grandma is a maid and has low expectations for Oprah.

"I just hope you become a maid someday too."

Oprah has other plans...

But life starts brutally tough for Oprah.

She is beaten and "not allowed to show emotion".

She sleeps in the outside porch with potato sacks for clothes.

She is sexually and psychologically abused as an early teen.

But…

Oprah has a talent for talking.

At 17, Nashville's WVOL radio station pays her to read the news on air.

And she loves it.

Then in 1973 Oprah gets her big break.

She's a sophomore at Tennessee State and gets a call from Chris Clark at Channel 5 CBS.

"Can you run a camera? Can you write a news story?"

Oprah: "Sure I can"

Oprah has no idea if it’s true.

But she doesn’t care.

Oprah eventually becomes the youngest anchor in the station's history.

Here's how Oprah felt the first time she is on television:

"It felt like breathing.

It felt like this is where I'm supposed to be."

But it wasn't all rainbows and roses…

Oprah almost gets fired.

Because she’s not a good news reporter.

Reporters detach from the story.

Oprah only could empathize with it.

So the station is paying her $25,000 a year and want to fire her.

But her contract still has 1 more year.

So to avoid firing her they put Oprah Winfrey on a crappy talk show.

And it’s the best thing that ever happened.

Oprah loves the talk show.

She then moves to Chicago and takes over a failng AM Chicago Show.

In a few months, it is the top rated talk show in Chicago.

Soon, Oprah is the top talk show host in the country.

And in 1986, they rename her segment "The Oprah Winfrey Show".

This starts the greatest run in television history.

From 1986 to 2011, she records 4,561 episodes.

She wins 47 daytime Emmy's.

And she has the highest rated daytime talk show in American history.

And The Oprah Winfrey Show is just the start.

Oprah’s empire includes her own TV network, magazine and production studio.

This is a smashing success because we are trained bullsh*t detectors.

Creator-led brands only work as extensions of the person.

Not following a fad.

2) What feels like breathing?

This is not generic hogwash telling you to follow your passion.

This is what comes easy to you.

Because what comes easy gives you the best chance to be great.

For Oprah, it’s talking on camera.

Find what feels like breathing.

3) Death to Confrontational TV

In the 1990s, TV focused on confrontation.

Stories centered on cheating spouses and scandals.

Oprah refuses to do this.

And she rises quickly by opposing mainstream TV.

Few days ago, a colleague recommended me to someone who needed my services as a Voice Over Artist.

The client reached out to me and asked to voice something relating to car hire services which operates in South South/South East Regions and beyond; with different cool vehicle configurations and car types.

After voicing it, I sent it back to the client but the response to the voice over was mind blowing.

VOICE OVER 101
-OMA SOMBAS-

I used to think that an indispensable quality of a voice over artist is a silky voice. But how wrong I was!

I am realising that just anyone really, can be a voice over artist.
You do not necessarily need to sound like Morgan Freeman before you convince yourself that you can voice stuff.
In voice over artistry, variety and flexibility are important.
There is a wide range of voice overs, and each one requires a unique kind of voice to deliver it. Your focus here, should be on finding what kind of voice over your natural voice is best suited to, and working hard to develop it to perfection.

So maybe, you have been working so hard trying to sound perfect for a movie trailer, but your voice actually belongs to a television or radio commercial.
Maybe also, your voice is just great for a documentary, but you have been trying too hard to sound great for an animation.

This is why you need to to find out which genre of voice over does your voice fit in the most and make conscious effort to perfect your skills in that genre.

A key factor here again, is your PRONUNCIATION!
If you are able to pronounce your words correctly, with the stress on the right syllable, you are already on your way to being a celebrity voice actor.
Please and please, easy with the phoneee. It is not needed at all, and can completely ruin your work.

Also, it is important to note that everyone must not be an English Voice over artist. Surprised? Don't be!
There are already many people making waves in the industry, as Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Efik, Spanish, French, German and even Pidgin voice over artists!
Oh yes!
You too can become a voice over artist in your local language!
This English is not for everybody.

There are adults too, who sound like toddlers when they speak. But do you know that you can turn that uniqueness into a skill in voice acting?
Guess what? Adults are the voice actors of many young characters in animations!
In fact, a closer example will be celebrity comedian and actress Helen Paul. I am sure you know her story, and achievements in the voice over industry.

So find out what works for you, and where you belong, and put in the work.
Don't forget to place some monetary value on your voice over skill.

Dear Self,
You are the most beautiful creature the Lord has made.
You are smart, calm, caring, jovial, fun to be with and you have got a sweet voice that people love to listen to.

Although, there has been more downs than ups but you have remained positive while facing all the hurdles and challenges of life.

I want to encourage you dear self, to love yourself unapologetically, continue to do those beautiful things that makes you happy.
Remember that even if the whole world rejects you, God you will neither leave you nor forsake you, and that he will fulfil all the promises he has made to you because he is able.

So soar high like an eagle.

Shine bright like a diamond and continue to look beautiful like the feathers of a peacock.

So never give up on yourself and always surround yourself with people that have positive mindset towards things.
Never be a pessimist but always remain optimistic.

Know that persistence is stubborness with a purpose!

I am so grateful to Almighty God for all the amazing things he has done in my life; helping me pull through obstacles that I thought would kill me.
