Economic Hardship: Price of Spaghetti jumps to N950 from N80, single egg N300, butter N1,400, sardine N1,020, 50Kg bag of rice N77,000 β€” Report

The prices of staple food have gone up amid worsening inflation, Peoples Gazette is reporting.x

It is reported that since President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, his economic policies have made life more difficult for Nigerians. On Thursday, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Nigeria’s inflation rate climbed to 29.90 per cent in January 2024.

Market findings conducted by Peoples Gazette have now revealed that one pack of Spaghetti that was formerly N80 is now N950; one carton of Titus fish which used to be N40,000, is now N76,000; one medium size of Blue Band butter that was once N500, is now N1,400; the price of 50kg bag of rice has risen to N77,000 from N35,000, while a 100kg bag of dry white old maize that used to be N18,000 is now sold for N58,000.

Other prices of other food items include: one packaged Titus sardine which used to be N350, is now N1,020; a single pack of Indomie is now N150 from N50; a pack of salt is sold at N400 from N100; the small size of Semovita now goes for N700 from N300; a single egg now costs N300 from N110; a paint bucket of garri that was sold at N1,000, is now N3,000; the price of a paint bucket of beans has risen from N1,500 to N3,000 while the price of a small goat has risen from N15,000 to N35,000.

Furthermore, a big Butterfield bread that was once sold for N350 now costs N900; the price of the cheapest toothpaste, which is MyMy, has now jumped from N150 to N500 while transportation costs along with the cost of a bus to load plantains from Ondo to Ogun State costs N100,000. The Nigeria Labour Congress, on Friday, declared a two-day nationwide strike billed for February 27 and 28, 2024, to make the federal government address the rising hunger and economic hardship in the country.

Video of late Herbert Wigwe’s new mansion in Ikoyi surfaces online.

Last year, in December, Herbert Wigwe moved into his new house at Queen’s Drive, Ikoyi, Lagos. By Chukwudi Iwuchukwu

A mighty, imposing edifice that speaks to his ambition and class.

It was his dream house, and so no cost was spared in building it.

A state-of-the-art house that is fully digital and automated as well.

You know the type of house where Siri and Google Assistant control the basic functionality of the property.

According to a rough estimate from those with knowledge of the property that I spoke to, over 10 billion naira were spent on the project.

And the reason why Herbert spent that much on the property was not far-fetched.

It was meant to serve as his retirement home in Lagos, so he made sure he spent money to build it.

Three weeks ago, he hosted Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and his bestie, Femi Otedola, in the new property.

They had dinner together, but before that, he took them around his new property to show the two Forbes billionaires his new acquisition.

He was a man whose palm kernel was cracked by the gods.

Little did Herbert know that it would be the last time he would be hosting Aliko Dangote and his bestie, Femi.

Herbert was a very wealthy man in his lifetime.

Before he died, he was the majority shareholder of Access Bank, as he controlled 9% of the bank.

That 9% shareholding made him the largest shareholder of Access Bank, and the shares he controls are collectively worth $54 million.

I have been reflecting on Herbert Wigwe's life and how empty life is since I woke up this morning, and I came to one conclusion.

Life is just fleeting.

Do your best to live your life on your terms and create enough memories.

Love the people who love you back, and touch as many souls as you can.

At the end of the day, tomorrow is not guaranteed.

In the 1990s, a notorious armed robber called Shina Rambo terrorised South Western Nigeria and the Benin Republic. He was notorious for snatching expensive cars and killing the car owners. He once snatched 50 cars in one day.

Shina Rambo's father was a soldier in the Nigerian Army. As a kid, Shina Rambo saw his dad came home several times with different types of guns and money stained with human blood. He recalled: β€œI remembered when I was about 7 years old, my father came home with a lot of money, foreign currencies, with blood on it, and they were using something like a woman’s scarf to wipe it, then I asked him, is this an animal’s blood, or human blood? But he wouldn’t answer me, they were just drinking, smoking, and merry making."

Rambo gradually started learning how to assemble rifles and shoot.

When his dad discovered he was gradually becoming an armed robber like him, he tried to kill Rambo, but Rambo ran away from home and became a full time armed robber.

According to Shina Rambo, he fortified himself with spiritual powers by pounding over 27 live new born babies in the mortar with a pestle, cutting off about 100 human tongues and cooking them to eat, visiting the spiritual river called River of Life in Ogoja, Cross Rivers State, living in an Iroko tree for days, and sleeping in the cemetery.

He was so spiritually fortified that the Nigerian Police Force couldn't apprehend him for many years. When his wife and children were killed, he gave up robbery and surrendered himself to the police.

He was jailed for life, but after spending some years in prison, the Obasanjo administration granted him and other prisoners presidential pardon.

Shina Rambo's real name is Mathew Oluwanifemi and he is still alive today working as an evangelist, sharing the story of his life and preaching around the country.
