When nature and time
Interlock in mutual betrayal
Covenants collapse

ABOUT THE BOOK
This book is a study of poetry registers. You may not be
able to write good poems unless you understand and put
into practice the language of poetry. Inability to
understand and use the language of poetry will place the
inexperienced poet in difficulty regarding the
circumstance of a particular poem and what informed its
writing. Some people have described poetry as
“experience recollected in tranquillity”. I wonder if this
definition is not too simplistic and rather misleading. This
definition ignores the huge element of language of poetry
and all the nitty gritty surrounding this articulation. The
book, “Understanding, Writing and Appreciating Poetry
for Lovers of Poetry, Young and Old”, will aid young poets
to understand what poetry is all about, its motivation and
relevance as a genre of literature, how it is written, its
diverse devices and how to handle poetry appreciation.
There is an annexure section containing poems lifted
from “Rhythm of Conscience” by Philip Umeh. The poems
have been added as a literary tool to enrich the poetry
appreciation exercise in this book. It is hoped that this
book will sharpen the interest of young men and women,
boys and girls in poetry. A major objective of this book is
to encourage young poetry enthusiasts to understand how
to write and appreciate poetry and ultimately mature to
the point of becoming great poets in the future.

MARRIAGE HARD FACTS
Marriage is not necessarily 1+1=1. If it were so why should one fight against one’s self. This description is a make belief, an illusion which hides the reality of marriage. In marriage “All that glitters is not gold”. For the not so lucky a couple, marriage has its bitter taste on account of which many couples are regretting and crying. Many couples say their marriage was driven by love, I beg to disagree. It is not love, instead their driver is emotion and sentiment. Love in marriage comes after both parties have understood and known themselves thoroughly. How can you claim to be in love when you are not able to vouch for each other? Love takes a couple of years to germinate, grow and mature. It is certainly not a day’s job.

THE SIDE CHICK’S PRAYER
May they keep quarreling over money, house helps, over the care of their children, over problems encountered in the “other room”, over love, care and protection. May they never agree on anything. Let hygiene matters scatter them so that the man can run straight into my bosom to behold “wondrous works” of God. May Madam continue her nagging until I, “The Side chick” render their marriage asunder.
