Akoko Edo Council gets a new Vice Chairman, Secretary, Speaker, and other appointments.

As part of filling the vacuum in governance, the Clerk of the Legislative Arm of Akoko Edo Local Government Council has administered the oath of office to Rt. Hon. Tope Jacob, who was the immediate past Leader of the Legislative Arm, as Vice Chairman while Hon. Akosile Nicholas took over as the New Leader of the Legislative Arm.

PDP Ward 2 Etsako West Suspends Hon. IKHARO ABDUL-AKIM, The Councilor representing the ward at Etsako West Legislative Arm.

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State has taken a strong stance against indiscipline within its ranks. In a decisive move, the party has suspended Hon. Ikharo Abdul-Akim, the Councilor representing Ward 2 at the Etsako West Legislative Arm.

The suspension, which was unanimously agreed upon by party Executives and members in Ward 2, follows Hon. Ikharo Abdul-Akim alleged involvement in the illegal impeachment of the Executive Council chairman and vice chairman. This action is seen as a clear breach of party protocol and the rule of law.

By suspending Hon. Abdul-Akim, the PDP is reaffirming its commitment to upholding the principles of democracy, accountability, and good governance. The party's leadership has made it clear that it will not tolerate any behavior that undermines these values.

This development serves as a warning to party members that indiscipline and unethical behavior will not be tolerated. Ten years ago, Nigerians made a choice that many now see as one of the most irrational decisions in the country’s history. In 2015, they believed it was a good idea to replace a PhD holder, Goodluck Jonathan, who was gradually and steadily piloting the affairs of the nation, with a man who lacked a school certificate, Muhammadu Buhari. Propaganda had painted Buhari as the savior Nigeria needed, and many were blinded by their desire for "change," failing to critically evaluate the type of change they were clamoring for—whether it would be positive or negative.

The results of that decision have been disastrous. What followed was a decade of economic decline, worsening insecurity, and poor governance. Nigerians have paid dearly for that costly mistake, and today, many of the same voices that cried for "change" are filled with regret. They now yearn for the era of the so-called "clueless president," as Jonathan was mockingly called at the time. They realize that under Jonathan, the country was in far better hands than it has been in the years since.

A similar scenario is unfolding in Edo State today. On one hand, there is a highly educated and competent candidate with a proven track record; on the other, an illiterate contender with no visible capacity to lead. Yet, some individuals, driven by personal biases or ignorance, believe the latter can somehow save Edo State. The lessons from Nigeria’s past seem to have been forgotten.

In 2025, we must remember that change is not inherently good. It must be purposeful, well-thought-out, and backed by competence. The failure to critically assess leadership choices has dire consequences, as Nigerians have seen over the past decade.

May God help Nigeria and Nigerians to learn from history and choose wisely, ensuring that the future is shaped by leaders who are capable, educated, and committed to progress.

CONDEMNATION OF THE ILLEGAL INVASION OF ETSAKO WEST LEGISLATIVE CHAMBERS

As the Speaker of the Etsako West Council Legislative Arm, I, Hon. Abdul Yamah, strongly and unequivocally condemn the unlawful invasion of our Legislative Chambers orchestrated earlier today, January 7, 2025, by thugs and hirelings under the influence of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This deliberate and brazen assault on our institution is a grave affront to democracy, a mockery of the rule of law, and a direct attack on the sanctity of the legislative process.

This premeditated act, aimed at executing an illegitimate and kangaroo impeachment process against the Executive Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Council, Hon. Marvelous Muhizu Zibiri, reflects the height of political desperation and lawlessness. It is a blatant attempt to subvert the collective will of the people by employing non-state actors and thugs to destabilize our duly constituted legislative body.

The invasion of the Legislative Chambers represents not only a violation of the sanctity of governance but also a threat to the stability of our democratic institutions. This reprehensible act demonstrates a total disregard for the principles of transparency, accountability, and respect for due process, which form the bedrock of any legitimate democratic society.

We will not fold our arms and watch the integrity of our legislative arm trampled upon by political desperados who have chosen violence and intimidation over dialogue and respect for the rule of law. Let it be known that the Etsako West Council Legislative Arm stands united and resolute against such barbarism, and we will utilize every lawful mechanism at our disposal to defend the integrity of our institution.

I call on all well-meaning citizens of Etsako West, political stakeholders, and security agencies to rise and condemn this undemocratic and cowardly invasion. It is the collective responsibility of all patriots to ensure that such despicable acts do not gain a foothold in our society. We must safeguard our democracy from those who seek to destroy it through reckless and illegal actions.

The Etsako West Council Legislative Arm reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the service of our constituents, the preservation of democratic values, and the pursuit of peace, unity, and progress in our community. Let it be known that no act of intimidation or violence will deter us from discharging our duties to the people who have entrusted us with their mandate.

This legislative arm will not be bullied or silenced. We remain steadfast in our resolve to protect the rule of law and uphold the democratic principles that bind us together as a people.

Breaking News: Akoko Edo LG Chairman and Deputy impeached

The Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Council, Hon. Tajudeen Alade Suleman Esq and his Deputy, Hon. Beatrice Abukare have been impeached over allegations of financial misappropriation and executive recklessness.

Moving the motion for impeachment, Hon. Akosile Nicholas Imashimi, Councillor representing ward 9 at the hallowed chambers on Monday, 6th January 2025 and seconded by his ward 7 counterpart, Hon. Afolabi Hope Monday, disclosed that Akoko-Edo people were tired of secrecy in governance and poor harnessing of the abundant mineral deposits in the area for the betterment of locals.

Following the development, Rt. Hon. Alabi Bliss Oshionogue, leader of the House and Councillor representing Ward 5, stepped down and assumed the role of Council Chairman in acting capacity, while Rt. Hon. Jacob Tope, Deputy Leader of the House, assumed office as leader of the legislative arm.

Addressing journalists at the event, the Acting Chairman pledged his unalloyed loyalty to the administration of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, promising to key into his 5-points agenda to arrive at a new Edo.

He dissolved all political appointments of previous administration even as he set up a committee to recover all government properties in possession of the erstwhile Council Chairman, Deputy and Aides.
