Nkem Owoh, affectionately known as Osuofia, stands as a revered figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry. His multifaceted career has etched an indelible mark on Nollywood, captivating audiences with his unique blend of humour and talent.
Early Life and Educational Journey
Born on February 7, 1958, in Amagu Village, Udi Town, Enugu State, Nigeria, Nkem Owoh’s journey into the limelight began early. After completing his primary and secondary education in Nsukka, Enugu State, he pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Ilorin. Remarkably, even during his university years, Owoh dabbled in acting, laying the foundation for his illustrious career.
Career Highlights
Debut Role: Nkem Owoh’s breakthrough came with his portrayal of a character in the screen adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s masterpiece, “Things Fall Apart”. The acclaimed series, broadcast on the Nigerian Television Authority, spanned 50 episodes, each lasting 50 minutes.
Global Recognition: However, it was the film “Osuofia in London” (2003) that catapulted him to international fame. This delightful comedy resonated with audiences across Africa and beyond.
Extensive Filmography: Owoh boasts an impressive filmography, having graced over 200 films and TV series. Some of his notable works include:
“Ukwa” (1995), where he shared the screen with Patience Ozokwor and Sam Loco Efe.

Personal Life and Tragic Loss
Marital Bond: Nkem Owoh has been happily married to Ngozi Owoh since 1998. Ngozi, also from Amagu Village, Udi Town, Enugu State, shares in his journey.
Family Privacy: While Owoh prefers to shield his children’s identities from the public eye, he is a proud father of two daughters. Tragically, he lost one of his beloved daughters in June 2023, a heart-wrenching moment for the family.
