UNILAG LECTURER REPORTEDLY RAPES 20-YEAR-OLD FEMALE UNDERGRADUATE

UNILAG lecturer Dr. Kadiri Akeem Babalola reportedly rapes a 20-year-old female undergraduate.

According to Deji Lambo, an ex-senior correspondent of the Punch who shared the news on his social media page via X, the victim accused the lecturer, who is also an Associate Professor of Botany at the institution, of perpetrating the crime when she visited his office to sort out issues pertaining to her results.

Speaking with the Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation, an NGO the victim reported the case to, the NGO said that rather than Babalola attending to the undergraduate’s result issues, he r***d her on August 16, 2023, Deji wrote.

The crime and investigative journalist disclosed that the Vice Chancellor was given seven days to produce Babalola, and when the VC invited the randy lecturer for questioning, InclusiveSWEF said he admitted to committing the crime. The VC informed the police through the Chief Security Officer of the school, and Babalola was arrested.

According to InclusiveSWEF, UNILAG and the police have been working tirelessly to ensure justice for undergraduates, Deji revealed.

FEE HIKE: POLICE OPENS FIRE ON PROTESTING UNILAG STUDENTS

Police officers reportedly disrupt protest by UNILAG students over the increase in school fees.

According to videos making rounds online via 'X', one of the protesters, Femi Adeyeye was allegedly arrested, while others took to their heels.

Recall that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has said it would mobilize its members to protest at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos, on Wednesday over the hike in school fees across educational institutions in the country.

It also warned the Department of State Services (DSS) not to prevent students from exercising their rights to protest, insisting it is a globally recognized human right.

However, the Lagos State Police Command has urged the National Association of Nigerian Students to inform the command of its protest plans slated for today, September 6, 2023, at the University of Lagos.

The University of Lagos announced an increment in the payment of obligatory fees for both returning and new students of the institution in July. However, the increment in obligatory fees did not sit well with students of the institution, hence the reason for the protest.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has said it would moblise its members to protest at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos, on Wednesday, over the hike in school fees across educational institutions in the country.

It also warned the Department of State Services (DSS) not to prevent students from exercising their rights to protest, insisting it is a globally recognised human right.

The National Public Relations Officer of NANS, Giwa Temitope, said this while reacting to the statement made by DSS that some politicians were assembling student leaders for violent protest against the Federal Government over socioeconomic matters.

“Intelligence reports have indicated that the plotters include certain politicians who are desperately mobilising unsuspecting student leaders, ethnic-based associations, youth, and disgruntled groups for the planned action,” the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya stated on Monday.
