- As Gov approves payment of monthly stipends to Corps members

Ondo State Governor, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved monthly stipends to National Youth Service Corps members deployed to serve in the State.

Governor Aiyedatiwa made the declaration at the Swearing - In - Ceremony of the 2024 Batch 'B' (Stream 1) of Coprs members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare Akoko, on Tuesday.

The Governor promised to rehabilitate the facilities at the NYSC Camp, including provision of Solar-powered light.

The Governor enjoined the new Corps members to dedicate themselves and brace up for the task ahead as they will be exposed to daunting but fulfilling challenges of national development.

Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated the determination of his administration to adequately cater for their welfare and security throughout their service year in the State.

"As we therefore induct you into the national service of our dear Country today, you face a greater challenge to prove that the future of our Country and coming generations would be secured in your hands. This is why you must rededicate yourselves to the task of bringing about positive changes in your various assignments", he said.

The Governor reiterated that his administration will continue to support NYSC at all times to ensure Corp members have a memorable year in Ondo State.

Speaking after an inspection of the camp, the Governor said: "The area is clean, disinfectant the bathroom and toilet but they are old, some kind of renovation needs to be done and that is what we are going to do. Electricity is also one of their problems and we will try to deploy solar light across the entire camp so that at night the area can be bright and for the hostels, we will see what we can do."

Earlier, in his welcome address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Samuel Pepple, thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for his presence at the event, saying from it is the first time a governor will visit the Orientation Camp in the last 13 years.

He said a total of 1,423 Corps members have been registered in the camp for the mandatory one year service for the batch.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, in his remarks, noted that the Governor's presence is testament of his love to the youth, charging the Corps members to contribute their quota to development of the State.

The Chief Judge Of Ondo State, represented by Justice Femi Akinbinnu, administered Oath of Allegiance to the Corps members.

Funeral rites for late Nollywood actor Mr Ibu begin in Enugu
28th June 2024
MR IBU

The late Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, will be laid to rest on Friday, June 28, in his hometown of Amuri, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Videos circulating on social media on Friday reveal the arrival of his body as family, friends, and colleagues gather to bid him a final farewell.

A night of tribute was held in his honour on Wednesday, in Enugu State, with fellow actors Charles Anwurum and Victor Osuagwu, among those who paid their last respects.

Earlier this month, PUNCH Online reported that the Actors Guild of Nigeria held a candlelight procession to pay tribute to Mr. Ibu and other deceased actors at Unity Fountain in Abuja.

A novelty football match was also organised by Rangers International Football Club and celebrities, among others, to honour Mr. Ibu.

The actor died on March 2, 2024, after a prolonged sickness.

In October 2023, Mr. Ibu revealed his struggle with diabetes. A month later, his leg was amputated after enduring seven surgeries.

News.......

Appearing on a radio political program tagged Oro Oselu in Akure, Comrade Victor Oguntoyinbo who is the Head of Ondo PDP Youth Directorate expressed how prepared the PDP and its youth wing are ahead of the Nov 16 Governorship election in the state.

While answering questions put to him by the presenter, the Head of the Youth Directorate noted that the youth wing has resolved to, in a different dimension, take the bull by the horns by going to the nooks and crannies, creek and hinterlands on the state to propagate the gospel as it’s the only candidature that is capable of alleviating the suffering of the people of the state.

He said, “Our Party ideology is people-driven, and our candidate, his running-mate has a history with the people of Ondo State, we have seen how our state has retrogressed economically and development-wise under APC helmsmen, we won’t allow this to continue as we will do everything legitimately possible to ensure we put an end to the draconic rule of APC in our dear state”.

You will recall that the Youth Directorate inaugurated different campaign committees at the PDP secretariat on Friday, Comrade Victor reiterated that the various committees are put in place to execute the plans of the Youth Directorate towards ensuring victory for the PDP.

He added, ” We have commissioned ourselves to take up tasks based on our comparative capacities by dividing ourselves into different committees that will take up different tasks aimed at achieving the ultimate goal of victory”.

When asked about the position of the Party’s Candidate on the verdict of the court regarding the LCDAs created by Former Governor Akeredolu, Comrade Victor responded by saying H.E Agboola Ajayi’s reaction to the verdict is borne out of a genuine desire to see effective governance manifesting at the grassroots level, he said, ” for Someone who was once a Local Government Chairman, the Party Candidate understands the importance of having viable hands with the liberty to work manning the affairs of their people at the local level”.

He closed the program by reiterating that the PDP candidate is the most experienced of all the candidates and that he is the only one whose administration in previous capacities has a paint of human face.

He appealed to the people of Ondo State to see beyond the fake promises of the APC and vote based on the current reality of hunger and suffering engineered by the misrule of the APC.

24/06/2024

The Nigeria Police, Lagos State Command has explained that actress Laide Bakare was stopped for contravening traffic laws and fined for the offence.

The Police P***c Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known in a post he shared on his verified X handle, , on Sunday.

Taking to her Instagram page on Sunday, actress Bakare lashed out at the police for entering her car and driving away with her 14-year-old daughter to an unknown destination.

According to her, the incident took place on Saturday along Ikorodu Expressway after the police accused her of driving on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Lane.

“For the first time, I experienced the brutal way Nigerians are being treated along that axis.

“I can’t imagine how someone with a brain and sanity will enter someone’s car and drive it away with a minor in it.

“My daughter was left terrified over the incident, a lot of things are happening in this country that needs to be attended to.

“The police only target big cars and vulnerable people to exploit and rob. Just because they needed our ATM card to take out N70,000,” she said.

Responding, Hundeyin said that the actress disobeyed traffic laws and paid fine as punishment.

“You were stopped for contravening traffic laws by driving on the BRT lane.

“You chose to create a scene. You chose to remain out of your vehicle when it was being taken to Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) office.

“The officers were not going to succumb to your gimmick to hold them down at that spot.

“You rightly paid the correct fine for your offence – N70,000 – into government coffers.

“You left with the receipt and your vehicle. Not a finger was laid on you,” the PPRO said.

- We remain a united family, says party chair Adetimehin

A major aspirant in the last governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, has declared his support for Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa ahead of the November 16 governorship election in the State.

At a meeting of his political associates and followers at his residence in Akure on Thursday, Chief Oke collapsed his political structure into the campaign train of the Governor.

Oke, who said he resisted the pressure to challenge the outcome of the April 20 primary in court, added that his interest is in the unity of the party and its victory in the coming gubernatorial election.

"I am not an emergency politician. I have campaigned for governorship in this State four times and I have all it takes to be Governor. I did everything I needed to do in the primary but the rest is now history.

"I had various options and my supporters were ready to follow any action I will take. But the peace, unity and development of this State is paramount to me.

"We must march forward in one accord into the coming election. Our strength lies in our unity. This is not the time to discriminate; this is the time to bring everyone on board for the good of our party.

"The Governor is my brother from Ilaje and I want Ilaje to produce the next Governor. Since it won't be me, it should be him. We are going to win the election together", Chief Oke said.

Speaking at the event, the State Chairman of the party, Engr Ade Adetimehin, commended Oke and his supporters for taking the step to openly declare support for Governor Aiyedatiwa, stressing that the development has put an end to any lingering issues within the party.

Responding, Governor Aiyedatiwa thanked Chief Oke and his supporters for pledging their support for his candidature, describing the event as a sign of victory for the APC in the coming governorship election.

The Governor was accompanied to the event by his deputy, Chief Olayide Adelami and other top government functionaries and party leaders.

GOV AIYEDATIWA: WE’RE ATTRACTING LOCAL, FOREIGN INVESTORS TO BOOST OUR ECONOMY

As Gov commissions Sunshine House in Lagos

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has said that his administration will continue to attract local and foreign investments to boost the economy of the State.

The Governor stated this on Wednesday when he commissioned the Ondo State-owned Sunshine House in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The project, managed by the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA), was initiated by former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and completed by the Aiyedatiwa administration

Located near Eko Atlantic City, the project aims to generate additional revenue for the State government.

Governor Aiyedatiwa said the commissioning of the project is in fulfilment of his promise to sustain the legacies of late Akeredolu, describing the former Governor as a visionary and a man of integrity.

He said the old structure, inherited from the defunct Western Region, was outdated and unattractive to investors, which prompted the state government, through ONDIPA, to construct a building that represents the new generation.

This development, he added, shows that Ondo State means business and is ready to offer incentives to attract local and foreign investors to the State.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also highlighted the state’s commitment to fostering industrial growth and enhancing infrastructure, including road networks and port development, to support business operations.

Earlier, in welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer of ONDIPA, Mr. Gbenga Badejo, described the project as a development symbol and revenue driver for the state, commending the government’s vision and commitment to creating a business-friendly environment.

Badejo noted the project’s investment value of approximately N3.3billion, with seven
floors, brand new office building, and facilities including kitchenettes, a terrace, reception, gate house, generator house, and waste management system.

The project developer, Akintola Oladejo, highlighted the seamless transition between the late governor and Aiyedatiwa, who completed the project without issues. He affirmed the project’s solidity and benefit to end users.

A former Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, in his goodwill message, reflected on his tenure and the significant developments since then and expressed a desire to secure similar benefits for Ekiti.

Adebayo commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for continuing with the legacy projects of the late Akeredolu.

Those present at the event included the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Akogun Akinwumi Sowore, Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Pastor Ayoade Babalola and Special Adviser on Entrepreneurship, Mr. Summy Smart Francis.

MORE APC MEMBERS DUMP PARTY FOR PDP IN ILAJE AND ESE-ODO LGS, VOW TO ENSURE AGBOOLA AJAYI’S VICTORY

The candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) H E Agboola Ajayi has received members of All Progressives Congress into Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The event held in Okitipupa had in attendance party leaders from the southern senatorial district.

The leader of the decampees from Ilaje LG, Obele Felix from Ugbo Ward 5 said after evaluating the scorecard of the current administration of Gov Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, they observed that the administration is characterized with insincerity of purpose, failure to meet up with people’s demands and empty promises which have lowered the standard of living of people and governance in Ondo state.

He reasoned that after critical evaluation of the political credentials and goodwill of H. E Chief Alfred Agboola Ajayi, coupled with his records in community development in Ondo state they have concluded that he is the only person worthy and deserving of their support.

Obele insisted “they are now part of the PDP family in Ondo state” .

The attention of the office of Eyitayo Jegede SAN has been drawn to the unfounded and very false narration being peddled, by some purveyors of falsehood, suggesting that Jegede SAN was a member of the committee that advised on the selection of the running mate to the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming November Governorship election in state.

We wish to state clearly, and for the records that Eyitayo Jegede SAN was not a member of any selection committee, neither was he at the meeting where the decision was taken. It is the right and prerogative of the candidate to choose who his running mate will be. Any insinuation linking Eyitayo Jegede SAN to the selection is false, unfounded, and misleading. The remains a united party, and Eyitayo Jegede SAN, in line with his principled position, will continue to work for the success of the party.

The Akure Elites Social Club has expressed shock and displeasure over the choice of Olayide Adelami, a native of Owo, as deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election coming up on November 26, 2024.

The Chairman of the group, Taiwo Adeleye, in a statement issued and signed on Friday said the governor really turned Akure speaking communities down.

Adeleye emphasized that the party zoning arrangement has been uttered by the governor and the party executive which should have given the slot to the central senatorial like PDP and NNPP did.

“Aiyedatiwa and the party executive members decided to change the zoning arrangement.

“APC seems not to believe in the mandate of the people and should have taken clue from PDP and NNPP who pick their deputies from the central,” he said.

However, the group chairman said the governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, deceived the people of the central senatorial district and undermined their voting capacity through his action showing that, the worse is expected.

The statement therefore concluded that if nothing is done on or before June 18, 2024, the deadline stipulated by INEC for replacement, the governor should expect the worse come, November 16, 2024.

Adeleye said: “We will wait patiently till the last day of replacement as stipulated by INEC if nothing is done, then the needful will be done on voting day,”

It would be recalled that the people of Akure South, Akure North and Ifedore supported Aiyedatiwa massively to be the flag bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in the state with the believe that it will snow ball to be their turn come 2028 since the incumbent has only one term to spend.

Also, about four indigenes of the area have been put on list namely : Barr Olumuyiwa Adu, Hon Tayo Oluwatuyi (Tukana) Pharmacist Tokunbo Fasonranti and Hon Rasaq Obe but their hopes dashed.

….Says State Govs receive huge monthly Allocations after Subsidy Removal.

Organised Labour on Saturday tackled the state governors, accusing them of acting in bad faith towards the new minimum wage negotiations ongoing in the country.

Recall that the governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors Forum rejected the proposed N60,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs for NGF, Halimah Ahmed, the governors said the proposed minimum wage was too high and not sustainable.

The governors said if the N60,000 minimum wage is adopted, many states would allocate their entire Federal Account Allocation Committee funds to salaries, leaving no resources for development projects.

However reacting on Saturday, the Organised Labour faulted the NGF’s position, saying every part of the new minimum wage agreement should be implemented and any of the state governors who can’t pay it should resign.

Speaking with Sunday PUNCH, Deputy National President of the Trade Union Congress, Tommy Etim, said, “There is no minimum wage. Every segment of it should be implemented. For the governors, we have said it very clearly. If you cannot pay minimum wage, please resign because you were voted for governance not for only infrastructure.”

“If you build the entire infrastructure and the people are not living to use it, who will use it? When they were campaigning did they tell us that? They didn’t tell us that. They make use of the poor to get to the top and when they get there, they start thinking outside the box. All the money they spent in electioneering campaigns, if they applied that to build infrastructure, to develop the revenue generation that would have solved some socio-economic challenges in their domain,” Etim said.

Describing the NGF statement as a recipe for industrial unrest, he said, “In this same country, the governors said that N30,000 was too much for governors to pay but it is in the same country that a governor emerged with over N80bn. What an irony! We cannot jump processes. We will also look at it together. Labour will be meeting. We are giving Mr President the benefit of the doubt to work the talk. The end will justify the means.”

Also reacting in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs, Benson Upah, the Nigerian Labour Congress said, “We do believe the Governors have acted in bad faith. It is unheard of for such a statement to be issued to the world in the middle of an on-going negotiation. It is certainly in bad taste.

“As for the veracity of their claim, nothing can be further from the truth as FAAC allocations have since moved from N700bn to N1.2tn, making the governments extremely rich at the expense of the people.

“All that the governors need to do to be able to pay a reasonable national minimum wage (not even the N60,000) is cut on the high cost of governance, minimise corruption as well as prioritise the welfare of workers.”

The wave of defections being witnessed in the All Progressives Congress in Ondo state, have spread further,as leaders and members of the party in Akure South Ward 3, have also decamped to the People’s Democratic Party.

Mr Ben Orimoloye led the team of the APC Akure South Ward 3 defectors on Saturday.

Leaders and members of the APC, had earlier on the same Saturday , defected to the PDP in Ilaje and Ese Odo local governments area of the state.

They were received to the party by its gubernatorial candidate, His Excellency, Agboola Ajayi who was assured by the decampees of their total loyalty and commitment to the rescue mission of the PDP in Ondo state.

Also declaring their support for the PDP and it’s gubernatorial candidate, in Akure, leaders and members of the APC in Akure South Ward 3,
echoed the believe , that the liberation of the nation will start from Ondo State.

According to the new PDP members, APC is finished in Ondo State .

The defectors mentioned also, that the economic hardship in Nigeria has opened their eyes to see the reason why they should do away with the APC, because , according to them, the party ” is no longer serving the interests of Ondo State people vis a vis Nigerians”.

The Akure decampees were received into the PDP by its gubernatorial candidate, Agbo Ajayi and Hon Ikantu Peretei.

Welcoming them to the party, Ajayi said their decision to join the PDP was confirmation of thier believe In the Ondo PDP mission to rescue the state from it’s current voyage without a direction.

Peretei on his part, urged the new party members to ensure that their aim of dumping the APC is not defeated, by ensuring they do everything withing their legal means, to ensure the PDP takes over the reigns of power in the state come November.
