“Dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again!” (Ezekiel 37:4b-5)
When you went to bed last night there was a lingering heartache; if not in the front of your mind, it was tucked away in the back. There are things that have gone badly, some so badly that you don’t know how you can survive them. You hurt.
God knows exactly how you feel. He looked down on the world in Noah’s day and grieved at the sinfulness of man. Jesus looked out over the lost city of Jerusalem and wept. Our God knows deep sorrow.
But all hope is not gone! God is the creator of life. He makes all things new. And he will resurrect your dry bones, the dry bones of failure, of pain and loss, of dejection and rejection.
Whatever has died in you, he will revive. You weren’t created for misery, but for joy. He breathes life into you because he has bigger plans—dry bones can’t go into all the world and make disciples. And dry bones can’t dance at the wedding feast of the Lamb.
