Mondays are for inspiration!

Now here's a story about J.K. Rowling, a renowned author who rose from grass to grace:

Joanne Kathleen Rowling, known to the world as J.K. Rowling, was a single mother living on welfare benefits in Edinburgh, Scotland. She struggled to make ends meet, often writing in local cafes while her daughter slept.

Despite her hardships, Rowling persevered, pouring her heart into a story about a young wizard named Harry Potter. Twelve publishers rejected her manuscript, but she didn't give up.

In 1997, Bloomsbury agreed to publish "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" (later renamed "Sorcerer's Stone" in the United States). The book's success was modest at first, but word-of-mouth and positive reviews propelled it to international acclaim.

As the series grew, so did Rowling's fame and fortune. She became one of the most successful authors in the world, with over 500 million copies sold. Her rags-to-riches story inspired millions.

Rowling never forgot her humble beginnings. She established the Volant Charitable Trust, supporting women's and children's charities. Her philanthropic efforts continue to make a significant impact worldwide.

J.K. Rowling's journey from a struggling single mother to a literary icon is a testament to her determination, creativity, and resilience. She proved that with hard work and passion, anyone can rise from grass to grace.

What can you learn from JK Rowling's grass to grace story?

Literacy is the solution to half of the problems bedevling third world countries.

Today we celebrate International Literacy Day by calling for governments in Africa to make the budget for education exceed every other expense.

An African proverb says, "Children you don't educate will destroy infrastructure that you build" and this has been the experience with insecurity in Nigeria and other Sub Saharan countries.
