My first s@xual in*******se happened when I was 18+. It was with my one and only secondary school boyfriend. It happened in his bed, at his parents’ house, a day before he traveled out of Nigeria to further his studies in London.
We both just finished our secondary school education from the same classroom in the same school. I was waiting for admission into university while he was to continue his higher education overseas.
We've been boyfriend and girlfriend from SS1. We had never kissed nor touched before the day it happened. But, we were good friends as long as our parents were concerned and secret lovers to ourselves.
It was my first time of going to a man's house. My strict parents allowed me this time because it was a farewell visit. It looked harmless to everybody but we had s@x.
It was not planned. It just happened. It started with a struggle to sn**ch a picture out of my hand. An old and funny picture of his, I picked it from the photo album I was going through and made a funny remark about it. We laughed and I would not stop making fun of him.
In the struggle to sn**ch the picture from my hand our bodies touched, electricity sparked in us. One thing led to the other, bam, bam, we had it. Our eyes cleared. What just happened dawned on us .
The act itself was so painful to me. There was blood, and tears (my tears, of course). I cried for many reasons, it was painful and guilt took over me. The s@x wouldn't have lasted more than twenty seconds but its consequences will live with me forever.
The following day my boyfriend left for London and three months later I was declared pregnant. Pregnant?! From a 20 seconds, first and the only time s@x?!
The parents met, my boyfriend was contacted and he admitted we had s@x. It was agreed that the pregnancy should be kept. I would be in my parents' house, under their care. If admission comes before delivery, I would go to university, pregnant not withstanding - a sweet punishment from my parents. They insisted I must go to university with my pregnancy. They were so angry and disappointed in me but had no option, it had happened, it had happened.
Four months after, we got news that my boyfriend died in an accident in London. Suddenly, I became very important to his family. They were so desperate to keep the lineage going through my baby. I became pampered by both parents by virtue of the importance of the baby I was carrying.
But I will never forget a night, months before the news of his death came. That's before the pampering began. I was craving Sharwarma badly. Sharwarma, dripping with spicy sauce. I wanted it with extra sauce. I fantasized taking a bite and the juicy sauce running down my hand onto my arm. I wanted it badly. I told my mum.
The look she gave me could melt iron. She shouted angrily
"Sharwarma ko, Sharsuya ni. Nonsense!"
"Don't let your father hear ooo." She added in a low voice.
But, my father had heard. He stormed out of his room in anger, entered his car and drove off. Not too long he came back with Sharwarma in his hand, for me. I cried, he cried, my mother cried. We hugged and held each other crying. Right there and then I vowed to myself never to disappoint them again.
That was the first and the last time I had craving during that pregnancy. I became gentle and respected myself. All forms of craving disappeared.
My son from that pregnancy is eight years old today. I'm a medical doctor now. The fact is, there are some things that are beyond your control. No matter how careful you are, they'll still happen. Na only God know wettin Hin dey do!
