TOPIC: LIVING RIGHT BY A SENSE OF THE FUTURE.

SCRIPTURE: 3Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power:
4Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father’s bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch. Genesis 49:3-4.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: A sense of the future imparts in you the discipline to live right.

It has been established that you need a sense of the future in order to fulfil destiny.

Let me give you one illustration. Before I went to medical school, I knew someone who was like a mentor to me already in a medical school. So, I got his medical books and began to read them aggressively because I had a picture of becoming a medical doctor.
While I was waiting to be admitted into the university, I was reading books on Anatomy even though I did not understand some of the things I read. Since I had distinction in Biology in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), I understood a few of the things I read.
While reading the Anatomy book, I was seeing things about muscles, nerves, veins and tendons and all their names. I kept reading them even though I did not understand most terminologies in the book.

I stepped into the university with the vision and passion to be a medical doctor. I knew that going for aimless meetings was not my portion.

You see, there are fresh students today who are admitted into the university, and get initiated into cultism by older students almost immediately. The older students take these fresh students to parties and introduce them to different ladies and their lives become ruined.

One reason such students could be easily trapped was that they had no sense of the future. They did not really know what they wanted to achieve out of life. They did not know the reason for their being on campus in the first place.

Beloved, a sense of the future imparts in you the discipline to live right.

ASSIGNMENTS:
1. Ask God to ignite in you afresh a sense of the future and destiny.

2. Make up your mind to live right so you can arrive at your destiny.

*TOPIC: THE DISCIPLINE OF EXCELLENCE*

SCRIPTURE: I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. 1 Cor. 9:27 (NLT).

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: If you refuse to put yourself under pressure, life will put you under pressure.

It has been confirmed that the top is our place in life. We are a city set on a hill.
However, this is not the case with many Christians because they do not want to embrace the discipline of excellence.

You see, while ordinary and average students sleep all through the night, distinction students are awake, studying their books. They squeeze and stretch themselves to arrive at their goals.

Also, while normal pastors sleep or eat every morning, noon and night, outstanding pastors put themselves under the pressure of prayer, fasting and study of the Word of God to see results.
The truth is, you cannot reach your destiny until you stretch your potentials by discipline.

As an outstanding personality, you must come to a point where you can feel real pressure – pressure of work, pressure of study, pressure of research, pressure of prayer, pressure of worship, pressure of fasting. You place more demands on yourself than the average person. That is the way of excellence.

If you understand the training of an eagle, then you will understand what it means to stretch yourself. An eaglet is always on top of the nest some 10,000 feet above sea level. The mother eagle would fly out every day to bring food for it to eat.

But one day, the mother eagle would decide to subject the eaglet to training. So, she tears the net housing the eaglet and throws the eaglet to the ground from the height of 10,000 feet above sea level. The eaglet falls from that height and when it is about to crash to the ground, the mother eagle will fly and stretch herself and catches the eaglet, puts it on her back, and takes her up again to a great height. She repeats the same training several times until the eaglet discovers how to stretch out its wings to fly.

After that, the eaglet can now fly and fend for itself. The mother eagle must subject the eaglet to this kind of pressure to prepare it for both flight and fearless adventure in life.

Beloved, if you refuse to put yourself under pressure, life will put you under pressure. That will not be your portion in Jesus’ Name.

REMEMBER THIS: If you refuse to put yourself under pressure, life will put you under pressure.

ASSIGNMENTS:
1. Make up your mind to subject yourself to discipline and trainings for excellence.
2. Refuse to be addicted to pleasure, ease and complacency.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace to embrace the discipline and training of excellence. Deliver me from every form of addiction to pleasure, ease and complacency, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: PROPHET SAMUEL’S CHALLENGE TO ISRAEL

SCRIPTURE: Behold, here I am: witness against me before the Lord, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you. And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand. 1 Samuel 12:3, 4

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The boldness of your financial integrity guarantees the solidity of your future.

In Scripture, we understand that Prophet Samuel was one prophet who was mightily used of God. He had such a strong prophetic accuracy that the Bible records that none of his words fell to the ground. This means, every word of he spoke came to pass.
Prophet Samuel was the one who anointed King Saul and King David and brought them to limelight. He bore the burden of God and that of the nation of Israel in his time.

Now, one secret of Prophet Samuel was his upright living. Samuel was so holy and upright that he threw up a challenge to the whole congregation of Israel one day.

What was the challenge?

1 Samuel 12:3, 4, says:
Behold, here I am: witness against me before the Lord, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you. And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand.
In essence, Samuel seemed to be challenging the whole assembly of the people of Israel that anyone among them who felt he had cheated him or her should openly walk forward and say it, but there was none.
What a challenge!
What integrity of life!
What a boldness and audacity of uprightness!
What a cleanliness and purity of life!
That was Prophet Samuel’s challenge to the children of Israel.
Like Prophet Samuel, the boldness of your integrity is the guarantee for the solidity of your future and destiny.
The boldness of your financial integrity guarantees the solidity of your future.
The question is, how many people today can put forth such a challenge of integrity like Samuel did?

REMEMBER THIS: The boldness of your financial integrity guarantees the solidity of your future.

ASSIGNMENTS:
1. Like Prophet Samuel, can you throw up a challenge of upright living to your neighbours?
2. Ask God for the grace to live without spots in your generation just like Samuel did.

PRAYER: Lord, I ask that You establish and enlarge my life on the ground of righteousness. I receive the boldness of uprightness. Deliver me from every temptation of compromise and crookedness, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: FROM PRESSURE TO TREASURE

SCRIPTURE: And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
Luke 5:1

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: To get the best out of your life, you must apply pressure on yourself.

It has been confirmed that pressure is key to releasing the treasures of life. Where pressure is not exerted on a thing, its treasure cannot be released and realized.

This means, to get the best out of your life, you must apply pressure on yourself. You need to squeeze yourself because life is not easy for those who take it easy. Life is hard for those who are easy on themselves, but easy for those who are hard on themselves.
You see, until you squeeze a fruit, its juice cannot come out. And until you drill the earth, you cannot find crude oil. Until the earth is dug, gold in it is not found.
So, to get the best out of your life, you need to squeeze yourself. You need to drill yourself.

One reason why the military, especially soldiers are an enviable and a valuable set of people is the way they train. Soldiers drill themselves so hard before their parades. They are hard on themselves. No wonder they are a strategic security arm of the government.

In the same way, you need to drill yourself or dig into yourself to release the treasures of your life. There is nothing of value that is on the surface. Any fish you catch on the surface of the water is a tiny fish. There is nothing that is of value that is superficial. A superficial approach to life is the reason for the mediocrity of many people. Many people indulge in superficial living, superficial praying, superficial study of the Word, superficial work, superficial giving, etc. This is one of the reasons for the mediocrity of their lives.

Beloved, by all means, resist all forms of superficial living.

REMEMBER THIS: To get the best out of your life, you must apply pressure on yourself.

ASSIGNMENTS:

1. Refuse to pity yourself so you don’t end up in a pitiable existence.

2. Apply pressure on yourself to release the treasures of your life.

PRAYER: Lord, I refuse to be married to convenience and mediocrity. I receive the grace to put myself under pressure to get the best out of my life, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: YOUR BEHAVIOUR AND YOUR BECOMING

SCRIPTURE: PROVERBS 23:7 says:
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The way you behave affects what you become.

One day, a man came to see me and he said that someone wanted to assist him move over to the US.
Then I asked him, “In five years’ time, would you like it if that man stands anywhere and says, ‘I am the one that took you to America?’” He said no.
You see, there are some people, if they say, “I was the one who assisted you,” you may like it.
But if a ‘braggadocious’, ostentatious, ‘peakockish’ person, with character bankruptcy asks you to bring your passport, that he wants to assist you move to America, would you be able to cope with the way he would brag about how he helped you?
The young man said, “No”, then I said to him, “Alright think twice. Let God open the door for you! Let God do it for you.”
He then decided to allow God do it for him. Today, by divine connection, this young man has been to America, Canada, the UK, and other parts of the world many times.
Sometime ago, he told me, “Thank you so much for the counsel you gave to me. The question you asked me opened my eyes.”
So, the point is, let your actions be such that you are conscious of who you are.
You see, someone once told me to go and pick a car from Asokoro, a high profile district in Abuja, Nigeria. He said he had a car for me there. But I rejected it.

There may be a category of people you would say such a thing to, and they would run without hesitation to go pick up the car. But if someone carries the crown of priesthood on his head, respect that oil, especially if you think he is your pastor.

The point is, the way you behave affects what you become. If you cheapen your life; you are cheap in life. How much you offer yourself is how much people will buy you.

REMEMBER THIS: The way you behave affects what you become.

ASSIGNMENTS:
1. Make up your mind not to be inferior to anyone.
2. Be noble and royal in your conduct.

TOPIC: YOUR SENSE OF VALUE AND YOUR VALUE IN LIFE.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: A person is never valuable until he has a sense of value.

It has been established that self-control is key to destiny realisation. A life without self-control is a destiny out of control. The capacity to say “No” is critical in fulfilling destiny.

Many years ago, I met a possessed girl. While praying for her, she confessed that she had not been able to say “NO” to any man. She slept with every man that wanted to sleep with her. Even if that man was a mad man, it did not matter to her. That was a demonic operation.
This was one of the character flaws of Reuben! He had no destiny principles and guidelines.
Now, another character flaw of Reuben was that he lived with no sense of value. He did not value his father. He did not want to preserve or respect what belonged to his father; rather, he defiled his father’s bed. He had no value for his father or the God of his father. He had no value for his father’s name and reputation.

Today, there are many people who have no sense of value. When you see someone who is always on drinking and smoking sprees, such person has no sense of value.

A lady that stands by the roadside as a pr******te, and goes home with any man who desires her, has no sense of value. A person is never valuable until he has a sense of value. No one regards a harlot or an armed robber enough to want to listen to their advice.

My counsel is, have a sense of value so you can be valuable in life.

REMEMBER THIS: A person is never valuable until he has a sense of value.

ASSIGNMENTS:
1. Refuse to live without a sense of value.
2. Live a valuable life by maintaining a rigid sense of valuable.

TOPIC: LACK OF PRINCIPLES – A PITFALL OF REUBEN

SCRIPTURE: Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
1 CORINTHIANS 10:11

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Lack of principles is the pitfall of many people with great destinies.

Our anchor Scripture makes it clear that the things written in Scripture are for our admonition. The things that happened in Scriptures are for our admonition so we can avoid the pitfalls of some people. The Bible is full of such stories.

And one of such stories is the story of Reuben.
Reuben had the potential to be great but he lost out in life and in destiny on the basis of character bankruptcy. It is very important to learn from him so we can order our lives aright.

One of the pitfalls of Reuben was that he lived a life of no principles. Lack of principles is the pitfall of many people with great destinies.

Reuben has no principles and guidelines. He did not know the difference between what is permissible and what is abominable. A principal person must be a principled person. Reuben had no destiny principles and guidelines.

To Reuben, he could sleep with any and every woman he saw, including his father’s wife. That was a reckless and wild way of living.

There are many reckless people today living without guidelines or principles. When you ask them, “Will you drink beer?” They will say, “Yes, why not?”
You tell them, “There is a park somewhere there; let us go there and ask some women out.” Without hesitation and control, they will say, “That is alright, let’s go.”

Many people do not have the capacity to say, “No” to wrong things.

I decree today, the grace to say, “No” to wrong thing is released on you in Jesus’ Name.

REMEMBER THIS: Lack of principles is the pitfall of many people with great destinies.

ASSIGNMENTS:

1. Refuse to live without principles and guidelines in life.

2. Make Scriptures or the Word of God your guiding principles in life and destiny.

PRAYER: Lord, I refuse to live without Scriptural principles and guidelines. I receive the grace to bring my life under Your control, principles and guidelines Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: PERSISTENCE – A KEY TO DISTINCTION

SCRIPTURE: Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. PROVERBS 22:29.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Doing things occasionally is not what brings results; doing things habitually and persistently is key to distinction.

Kenneth Copeland once told a story of a Christian who was an aircraft mechanic.

This man applied to work in an aircraft company, a very big aircraft company, but the owner of the company turned him down and said, “We don’t need your services.”

However, this man persisted in going to look for work in this company and they kept on turning him down. Then on a particular day, he told the owner of the company, “Please sir, I will work for you free of charge; do not pay me anything.”

The man looked at him and said, “Okay, I will engage you.”

By the time they engaged him, this voluntary staff was more dedicated, diligent, careful, and knowledgeable than most of the permanent members of staff. The owner of the company observed him for a while and began to give him responsibilities.

That was how this man’s story changed. The man, who was once an aircraft mechanic, is now the owner of an aircraft-manufacturing company. A man who was once an uneducated aircraft mechanic became the owner of an aircraft-manufacturing company by the power of persistence and diligence.

Doing things occasionally is not what brings results; doing things habitually and persistently is key to distinction.

Persistence is key to seeing results in life. Some people do things occasionally and wonder why they do not see results.

If the man in our story had given up when he was turned down at first, he would not have become the owner of an aircraft manufacturing company. No one goes to the top by praying, fasting, giving, working, or studying occasionally; it takes persistence to go up in life.

REMEMBER THIS: Doing things occasionally is not what brings results; doing things habitually and persistently is key to distinction.

ASSIGNMENTS:
1. Refuse to do the right things occasionally.
2. Embrace the discipline of persistence.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace to embrace the discipline of persistence. I receive the grace to be persistent in good works, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

TOPIC: THE RUIN OF REUBEN.

SCRIPTURE:

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Many people are in hell fire today because they had no respect for authority.

We have been exploring the life of Reuben. We already know that
Reuben was the first born of Jacob. He had the potentials to become great in life by being the supposed carrier of the Blessings of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But he missed out in life because of his bankruptcy of character - he defiled his father’s bed.

Now, one character in Reuben that made him to defile his father’s bed was lack of self-control.
Reuben lacked self-control. He could not control himself. That was why his father said he was as unstable as water.
Reuben could not control his passion and desires. At a time, you may see Reuben to be very calm and cool, but at another time, he could be as wild as the wind. He was as unstable as water.

You see, anyone who cannot control his desires cannot control his destiny. When you have no control over your passion, you have no control over your portion.

Now, the second manifestation of Reuben’s bad character is his lack of respect for authority.
If he respected the authority of his father, he would not have slept with his father’s wife.

When you see anyone today who has no respect for the authority of man and that of God, that person has no future with God. Many people are in prison today because they have no respect for authority. Many people are in hell fire today because they had no respect for authority.
That will not be your portion in Jesus’ Name.

REMEMBER THIS: Many people are in hell fire today because they had no respect for authority.

ASSIGNMENTS:
1. Work on your character to avoid the tragedy of character failure.

TOPIC: DOING GOOD – A ROUTE TO THE BLESSING

SCRIPTURE: So don't get tired of doing what is good. Don't get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time. GALATIANS 6:9 (NLT).

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Doing what is good habitually and consistently is a pathway to the blessing.

A story was told of a young man who was a cleaner in an office. He came to the office before everyone else in the morning, and left after everyone had closed and gone for the day.

He never said, “I am not meant for this kind of work. I am just marking time here waiting for a better job,” but rather gave it everything that he had got; he gave his best to the job. He cleaned every office, and did every work that was assigned to him without complaining.

Then on a certain day, the Managing Director of the company called him and pointed an office to him with the instruction: “Clean that office for the General Manager. That is the office of the General Manager.”

When he was done cleaning the office, the Managing Director told him, “That is your office, and you are now the new General Manager of this company.”

Beloved, can you see the benefit of selfless and diligent service?

In another instance, a man, who lived abroad sent money to one of his contacts in Nigeria. He told the person, “Build for a house for me in my village, a house that I will live in.” He gave him the description of the kind of house he wanted.

Then the man went and built the house with all the energy he possessed. He built it and tastefully furnished it. He put every high-quality material he could gather. By the time he was done building the house, the owner returned and looked at everything he did, behold, it was of excellent quality.

When the man who built the house handed the house keys over to the owner (the man who lived abroad), he declined and said, “Take the keys. It is your house. I just wanted to prove you. I actually wanted to build a house for you. I wanted you to be the one to execute the project to see what you would do for yourself while thinking you were doing it for another person.”

You see, if the man thought he was doing it for someone else and put shabby roofing sheets and rotten wood on the roof, he would have cheated himself.”

Beloved, this is how life should be. You can get anything in life if you decide to be selfless and hard working. Doing what is good habitually and consistently is a pathway to the blessing.

ASSIGNMENTS:
1. Make up your mind to do what is good always. Be selfless and generous in doing good.
2. Give your best in all you do, and be consistent and habitual in doing your best.

While praying for her, she confessed that she had not been able to say “NO” to any man. She slept with every man that wanted to sleep with her. Even if that man was a mad man, it did not matter to her. That was a demonic operation. This was one of the character flaws of Reuben! He had no destiny principles and guidelines. Now, another character flaw of Reuben was that he lived with no sense of value. He did not value his father. He did not want to preserve or respect what belonged to his father; rather, he defiled his father’s bed. He had no value for his father or the God of his father. He had no value for his father’s name and reputation. Today, there are many people who have no sense of value. When you see someone who is always on drinking and smoking sprees, such person has no sense of value. A lady that stands by the roadside as a prostitute, and goes home with any man who desires her, has no sense of value. A person is never valuable until he has a sense of value. No one regards a harlot or an armed robber enough to want to listen to their advice. My counsel is, have a sense of value so you can be valuable in life. REMEMBER THIS: A person is ne
