23-year-old man h@cks his father to d3ath in Delta

A 23-year-old man identified simply as Success has h@cked his father to d3ath with a cutlass in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident occurred in the Amukpe area of Sapele on Sunday, 12th January 2025.

It was gathered that the suspect k!lled his father for refusing to give him N5000.

The father was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment where he d!ed on Monday, January 13.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident said the suspect has been arrested.

“The incident occurred on Sunday but the father d!ed Monday. Success is in custody,” the PPRO said.

Canada’s prime minister, Justin Trudeau resigns and suspends parliament until March

Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau has announced his resignation from office.

The 53-year-old said he will step down as leader of the country’s ruling Liberal Party, which he has led since 2013.

He also said the country’s parliament will be suspended until March 24 until a new leader is chosen.

“I intend to resign as party leader, as prime minister,” Trudeau told reporters in Ottawa following a protracted political crisis that saw top Liberal allies urge him to quit.

“Parliament has been paralyzed for months after what has been the longest session of a minority parliament in Canadian history,” he said.

“This morning, I advised the Governor General that we need a new session of parliament. She has granted this request, and the House will now be prorogued until March 24.”

Trudeau will remain prime minister in a caretaker capacity until a new leader is chosen.

He came under further pressure after his finance minister, Chrystia Freeland, his deputy prime minister and finance minister resigned in December over clashes on policy including “costly political gimmicks”.

The disagreements included how to handle possible US tariffs imposed by Donald Trump’s incoming administration.

Mr Trudeau’s resignation comes as the polls show his party is likely to suffer a heavy defeat to the official opposition Conservatives in an election that must be held by late October.

The Liberals must now name an interim leader to take over as prime minister ahead of a special leadership convention.

WHO Declares A New COVID Outbreak In China

The World Health Organization, WHO, has declared the outbreak of a new coronavirus in China, a global health emergency.

The WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus made the announcement at a press conference in Geneva.

WHO’s emergency committee on the epidemic had reportedly met last Thursday and recommended designating the outbreak of the Public Health Emergency of International Concern, PHEIC.

The decision had been “almost unanimous,” Didier Houssin, chair of the emergency committee, said at the press conference.

“The main reason for this declaration is not because of what is happening in China, but because of what is happening in other countries,” Tedros said at the press conference.

“Our greatest concern is the potential for the virus to spread to countries with weaker health systems and which are ill-prepared to deal with it. Let me be clear, this declaration is not a vote of no confidence in China. On the contrary, WHO continues to have confidence in China’s capacity to control the outbreak.”

Tedros also outlined recommendations made by the emergency committee to control the outbreak, including accelerating the development of vaccines and drugs and combatting the spread of misinformation.

This is the sixth time WHO has used that label, Public Health Emergency of International Concern, PHEIC. since the designation was introduced 15 years ago.

Police Rescue One-day-old Baby Abandoned By Mother

The FCT Police Command has rescued a day-old baby abandoned along a bush path near Crush Rock, behind an uncompleted Red Bricks Market, Mpape. According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, on January 3, 2025, at about 10:00am, police operatives from Mpape Division’s Juvenile and Women Care Section (JWC) responded to a distress call and found the baby wrapped in a cloth.

‘’The child was promptly rescued and taken to Mpape Primary Health Care Center, where medical evaluation confirmed the baby is in stable condition.’’

Adeh stated that following a tip off from the community, the baby’s mother, Khadija Ali, was arrested. During interrogation, she confessed to abandoning the baby, citing her inability to care for the child following her husband’s abandonment.

‘’The FCT Police Command vehemently condemns this act of child abandonment and reassures the public of its commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of society. The rescued baby will be handed over to the Department of Social Welfare for proper care, while the mother will face prosecution according to the provisions of sections 14 and 16 of the Child Rights Act (CRA) 2003 upon the conclusion of investigations.

I’d Rather Kill Than Die for Nigerians – Burna Boy Declares

Afro beat Singer Burna Boy, has stated that he can never die for Nigerians.

This is as he asked them to stop comparing him with the late Afrobeat founder and activist, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Recall that Burna Boy, who has drawn comparisons with Fela over his protest music, has been under fire recently over his detection of his colleague, Speed Darlington, for allegedly defaming him.

Someone Who Should Act Like Elder Statesman Has Reduced Himself To Partisanship” – Wike’s Aide Knocks Odili

A war of words has erupted between the camp of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili.

Odili had commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for preventing Wike from turning Rivers State into his private estate.

According to Odili, Fubara showed unusual fortitude in confronting the challenge posed by Wike, emancipating Rivers people and steadying governance in the state.

However, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to Wike, described Odili’s comment as disappointing.

“Read the comments made by the former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili on the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, today, and I can’t but be disappointed that someone who should be acting like an elder statesman can reduce himself to such ridiculous level of partisanship,” Olayinka said via X on Saturday.

Olayinka further stated, “Well, he will get his deserved response from the FCT Minister in due course.”
