The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) says Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has been killed.

A statement shared on the IDF's X account says: "Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorize the world."

Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Lebanon's militant Shia Islamist Hezbollah movement, is one of the best known and most influential figures in the Middle East. Nasrallah has not been seen in public

for years because of fears of being assassinated by Israel.

The statement follows a series of overnight strikes in Beirut which Israel said were targeting Nasrallah and other Hezbollah commanders.

NNPC Petrol Price Fixing Monopoly

NNPC’s approach to fixing fuel prices can be likened to "match-fixing" because, despite deregulation efforts, it continues to exert significant control over pricing. This keeps petrol prices artificially high, benefiting NNPC but negatively impacting both independent marketers and consumers.

The complexities of NNPC’s involvement in the oil market. By controlling the pricing of petroleum products and acting as both a regulator and a market player, the NNPC can indeed be seen as distorting competition. Much like a monopoly in any sector, this limits the ability of independent marketers to operate freely, creating inefficiencies in the supply chain.

In a truly competitive market, marketers would have direct access to refineries like Dangote’s, allowing for better price competition and efficiency. Instead, NNPC's control over pricing and distribution creates a bottleneck. This can be compared to a scenario where a regulator (like NCC in the telecoms sector) controls airtime sales instead of allowing direct transactions between vendors and telecom companies,

The current structure stifles competition, disincentivizes investment in refining capacity, and leaves the country vulnerable to fluctuations in global oil prices. If NNPC allowed marketers to have direct access to refineries such as Dangote's, it could foster a more competitive, market-driven pricing system, which would ultimately benefit consumers and promote a healthier economy. Letting private marketers engage directly with refineries will eventually promote a more level playing field, but the NNPC’s current influence over pricing and supply remains a key obstacle to real competition.

By keeping itself in the loop, NNPC creates inefficiencies and restricts the benefits that should come from competition, such as lower prices and better service delivery. If independent marketers had direct access to refineries like Dangote’s, we would likely see a more transparent, competitive, and efficient market, as prices would be driven by the realities of the market rather than the strategic interests of NNPC.

Ultimately, NNPC stepping back and allowing the market to operate freely could lead to more sustainable and fair pricing for petroleum products in Nigeria.

Labour Party Chairman Killed in Benue by Suspected Herdsmen

In a tragic incident, Mr. Sunday Oche, the Labour Party Chairman for Igumale Ward 1 in Ado Local Government Area, Benue State, was killed by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen. The attack occurred as Oche was returning from his farm with five others. Others escaped with serious injuries.

A friend of the deceased, who spoke anonymously, recounted that the group was ambushed by armed herdsmen around 4:30 PM. The attackers flagged them down and immediately shot Oche, who died on the spot. The others managed to escape, albeit with serious injuries, abandoning their motorbikes in the process.

Local youths arrived at the scene to find the attackers had fled, leaving Oche's body behind. Benue State Labour Party Publicity Secretary, Tersoo Orbunde, confirmed the incident, stating, "He is a Ward Chairman from Igumale, Sunday Oche. He went to his cassava farm and he was attacked and killed. They have brought the co**se back."

Orbunde added that the party is consoling the family and awaiting arrangements for Oche's burial, which is scheduled for Thursday, September 5, 2024. The incident has been reported to the police, though Police Public Relations Officer Superintendent Catherine Anene stated she had not yet received information about the attack. The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

INSPECTOR PETER MUST NOT BE BURRIED LIKE CHICKEN

This is a Benue born Inspector Sunday Peter, attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos.

Inspector Peter, who hails from Epeagbo Otukpa, in Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State, left his house for a normal daily routine of patrol with his colleagues on Thursday, 16th May 2024 but never returned home.

On Friday, 17th May, at about 7am, one of the colleagues called the younger brother that Inspector Peter was dead and had been deposited at the morgue. JUST LIKE THAT?

The Police claimed he fell sick during the patrol and he was rushed to the hospital but they requested for a deposit of 100k, and before they could raise the money, he died. But a discreet investigation at the hospital confirmed the Man was brought in dead.

Also, a check at the mortuary where the co**se was kept, revealed that the deceased had cuts on his neck, bruises around his body and his lower region, suggesting that he was k!lled.

Now the Police authority in Lagos is secretly reaching out to the family to hurriedly bury the co**se by next weekend in Otukpa, without telling us what actually k!lled the gallant officer. The Lagos State command has printed posters for his obituary and released signal to that effect.

The wife of the deceased is a police officer too, from Edo state and may not want to make issues with the Police authority where she serves.

A petition has been submitted to the office of the Member representing the deceased and the Senator representing his senatorial district at the National Assembly. If nothing is done urgently, the body of this innocent Man who gave his all to serve this country but was betrayed by his colleagues, would just be taken to Otukpa next weekend and hurried like a chicken.

I'm calling on all well meaning Nigerians, even if you're not from Benue, to rise to this occasion and demand for autopsy and thorough investigation into the death of this young bread winner. This is not the first Police officer that would be k!lled and brought home to burry in our locality, without knowing the source of their deaths.

I don't know the deceased or any of the family members in person, but I'm calling on Lawyers, CSOs, good spirited individuals from Benue, especially our political leaders, to stand up and demand for justice for this young Man. I can imagine the pains the wife and children would be passing through now. And no one is talking about this, until he is burried like a chicken next week. GOD FORBID!
