Tinubu’s New Year Speech: No Hope in Sight, Signposts Gloom
…Shows President is Disconnected, Unconcerned

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) asserts that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2025 New Year Day address further confirms its position and that of most Nigerians that there is no hope in sight for the nation under his administration.

The Party describes the speech as a self-satisfying posturing which further validates the notorious fact that the Tinubu-led APC administration is completely disconnected and unconcerned with the hardship Nigerians are going through as a result of the ill-implemented policies and gross mismanagement of resources under the President’s watch.

Nigerians were appalled that despite the prodding by the PDP and well-meaning citizens, President Tinubu’s New Year speech did not articulate any specific direction for the nation or proffer solution to the myriad of problems caused by APC’s misrule.

President Tinubu’s speech again underlines APC’s insensitivity to the anguish of Nigerians by failing to present any definite policy roadmap towards reducing the price of petroleum products, addressing the widespread hunger in the land and revamping our ailing productive sector.

The speech did not articulate any solution-based direction for the critical sectors of electricity, oil and gas, road infrastructure, food production among other areas that are fundamental to the wellbeing of citizens. It was also pathetically devoid of a precise plan to address unemployment through strategic investment to stimulate multisectoral Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in the country.

If indeed the APC administration has the interest of Nigerians at heart, the New Year address would have made definite pronouncements on the price of fuel especially given that with a deft, transparent and innovative management of resources, economic potentials, comparative advantage, national refining capacity and effective policing of our borders, Nigerians should not pay more than N350 per liter for petrol within the country.

In any case, from the speech, it is clear that the Tinubu-led APC administration lacks the expected patriotic commitment as well as required capacity, competence and skills to effectively harness and manage the resources of the nation for the good of the citizens.

Moreover, President Tinubu’s claim in the speech that Nigerians placed their confidence in him as their President is ludicrous and shows that he is disconnected from the reality of his abysmal perception among Nigerians.

Mr. President must realize that Nigerians have lost faith in his administration, they have since moved on and are eagerly waiting for the next round of election that will mark the end of the nightmare which the APC represents to our nation.

Our Party however counsels President Tinubu to redeem his image by ending the insensitivity of his administration, listen to Nigerians and get more committed and focused on the purpose of governance which is the welfare and security of the people.

New Year: Address Insecurity, Fuel, Food Crisis -PDP Tells Tinubu
…Charges Nigerians to Strengthen Resolve to Defend Democracy

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congratulates Nigerians on the dawning of the year 2025 and charges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to taint the new year with an address that will not proffer immediate and concrete steps to reduce the price of fuel, address widespread hunger and provide clear-cut measures to guarantee security of lives and property in the country.

This position by the PDP is predicated on the fact that previous addresses by Mr. President in the last 18 months dwelt only on hopeless rhetoric, unsubstantiated statistics, false promises, conjured performance claims and validation of flawed elections without concrete mechanisms to address insecurity, resuscitate the economy, create jobs, ensure credible elections and guarantee better living standard for Nigerians.

The PDP maintains that President Tinubu must speak to the issues of unbridled corruption, deceit, budget padding, reckless and wasteful spending directed to fund luxury appetite of APC leaders, insensitivity to the pains of citizens and total disregard to the obligation of government which has made life unbearable for Nigerians under his watch.

The Party also challenges President Tinubu to use the address to give account of the billions of Naira officially reported to have accrued from the removal of subsidy on petroleum products.

Furthermore, Mr. President should come clean on his public commitment to fight corruption by ordering an investigation and recovery of the over N25 trillion reportedly stolen by APC leaders and officials in government who have turned government agencies to Automated Teller Machines (ATM) to siphon funds for their benefit while other Nigerians wallow in abject poverty, hunger and starvation.

Equally worrisome is the failure of the APC government to revisit and address the reported cases of alleged State-backed killings in various parts of the country, particularly the 2020 EndSars killings and inhuman denial of the massacre of promising Nigerian youths in that sad and repulsive incident.

The last 18 months have been the most excruciating period to Nigerians since the Civil War with citizens now resorting to su***de and slavery mission aboard due to the hopeless situation foisted by the anti-people policies of the suppressive, exploitative and insensitive APC government which continues to reject every appeal and suggestion for review of such policies.

More disheartening is that while Nigerians die of hunger and insecurity, APC leaders and officials in government continue to flaunt their luxury appetite and lifestyle in utter disdain to the feelings of millions of impoverished citizens.

The PDP cautions the APC not to carry over such attitude into 2025 as such would further exasperate the patience and sensibility of Nigerians.

Our Party however urges Nigerians not to lose hope in the nation but remain law-abiding and approach 2025 with optimism of a new dawn in their determination to defend our nation’s Constitutional Democracy, adherence to the Rule of Law, demand for transparency and accountability in government; in firm resistance to suppression and pervasive violations by the APC.

This, the PDP believes is the sure step in the quest by our Party and Nigerians to return our country to the path of stability and economic prosperity which has eluded her since the calamitous coming of the APC in 2015.

The PDP salutes Nigerians and wishes all a Happy 2025.

PDP Grieves Over Mistaken Airstrike in Sokoto Communities
…Demands Investigation, Compensation for Victims

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) commiserates with the people of Sokoto State over the killing and injury to many civilians in the accidental airstrike by the military in pursuit of terrorists in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa villages of Silame Local Government Area of the State.

After an analysis of the reports of the mistaken airstrike, the PDP demands for an urgent system wide investigation into the tragic incident with the view to further guarantee the protection and safety of civilians in the fight against terrorism in the country.

Our Party recalls similar incidents that claimed the lives of civilians in Kaduna State in December 2023 and September 2024 respectively and urged for steps to avoid such calamity in the future.

The PDP condoles with the families of the victims of the sad incident and urges the Federal Government to take necessary steps to compensate the families of dead as well as ensure adequate medical attention for the speedy recovery of the wounded.

While calling for more professionalism, the PDP urges the military not to relent in its patriotic efforts in the fight against terrorism in our country.

Christmas: PDP Harps on Unity, Urges Nigerians to Stand by One Another

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) urges Nigerians to use the occasion of this year’s Christmas to promote and strengthen the bond of love, unity and care among themselves without regard to creed, class or divisive considerations.

The Party states that this is the only way Nigerians can survive the prevailing widespread hardship in the country occasioned by the anti-people policies and misrule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Christmas, the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ serves as a refreshing reminder of God’s eternal love to mankind and His willingness to grant divine solution to every challenge of life, including the problems we face as a nation.

The PDP laments that due to the abysmal level of poverty in the country, millions of Nigerians are no longer able to afford their daily meals, with most families not having the resources to travel to celebrate and bond with their loved ones as usual. Some of those who travelled are stranded on the many dilapidated highways with no hope in sight. There is a general sense of gloom and despondency due to the prevailing hardship at this time.

Our Party however urges Nigerians not to give up hope or allow the sufferings they face at this time to make them lose sight of the blessings of Christmas and its message of hope and assurance of light at the end of the tunnel.

Nigerians must therefore stand by and share with one another at this time so that the joy of the season can spread to all.

The PDP wishes all Nigerians a merry Christmas.

PDP Acknowledges Gov. Makinde’s Compassion on Birthday

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) acknowledges the unceasing compassion of the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE towards the people.

The PDP notes Governor Makinde’s cancellation of all activities relating to the marking of his birthday today in solidarity and compassion towards the families of the deceased children and the injured in the recent tragic stampede at a private children fun fair event in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Governor Makinde’s decision is in line with his stance that the purpose and essence of leadership is in pursuing the wellbeing and comfort of others and not self. Such distinguishes him as a leader with empathy and who at all times has the people’s interest and wellbeing at heart.

The PDP continues to pray and stand with Governor Makinde, the families of the victims and the people of Oyo state especially at this trying moment.

Hardship: Presidential Media Chat Confirms APC’s Insensitivity, Disconnection from Nigerians
…Challenges President Tinubu to Travel by Road

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) asserts that Monday’s Presidential media chat further confirms the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration’s insensitivity to the current widespread hardship and suffering being faced by Nigerians resulting from the ill-implemented and anti-people policies of the APC

The declaration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that he has no regrets for the sudden removal of fuel subsidy without any cushioning measures to mitigate the resultant crippling effect on the productive sector, high cost of living and associated hardship which is now driving citizens to extreme poverty and early death also confirms APC’s disconnection from the primary purpose of government which is the welfare and security of the citizens.

It is instructive that President Tinubu in the chat admitted that Nigerians are bearing the brunt of the failure and inability of the APC administration under his watch to effectively police and secure our nation’s boarders as to prevent the smuggling of petroleum products to neighboring countries.

The PDP is disturbed that while the APC has failed to account for the proceeds saved from the removal of subsidy, Nigerians are subjected to crushing economic hardship because the APC administration has failed in its fundamental duty of ensuring the territorial integrity of our nation.

Moreover, Nigerians are appalled that instead of admitting failure and seeking for solutions, Mr. President again claimed that the nation’s economy has improved under his watch when in reality the situation has worsened with comatose productive sector, deteriorating value of the Naira at N1,700 to the US Dollar, 34.6% inflation and 40% unemployment rates in the last 18 months.

The widespread food stampede in various parts of the country which recently led to the death of about 80 Nigerians shows that our nation is indeed in perilous time under the APC.

The PDP holds that there is no hope in sight under the APC given its failure to embark on meaningful investments in critical sectors including agriculture and food production, electricity, petroleum and gas, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, which are the real drivers of the national economy.

Also, alarming is President Tinubu’s claim that Nigerians can now freely and safely travel by road despite the horrible reality of banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery as well as the worsened condition of highways across the country under the APC.

The PDP urges President Tinubu to travel from Abuja to Lagos by road, visit any of our markets or take a walk on the street of any city in Nigeria to properly gauge and appreciate the real situation in the country rather than relying on fabricated statistics being bandied by officials of his government.

PDP Slams Tinubu Over Ibadan, Abuja, Anambra Tragic Hunger Stampedes
…Laments APC is Pushing Nigerians to Death, Demands Recompense for Victims

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) describes the widespread food stampede in the country as an ugly testament of the alarming level of misery, poverty, hunger, starvation, sense of hopelessness and desperation for survival currently plaguing our nation under the overtly insensitive, corrupt and rudderless Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

The Party laments the tragic stampede at private events in Oyo and Anambra States as well as the FCT, Abuja which claimed the lives of about 60 vulnerable citizens including children in their desperate struggle for food as a result of the pervasive hunger in the land occasioned by the anti-people policies of the APC administration.

The PDP is devastated that the APC-led administration has wrecked our once thriving economy and pushed millions of Nigerians deeper into abject poverty and hunger with many citizens, not being able to afford their daily meals, now resorting to su***de and desperate measures including slavery mission abroad and fighting for crumbs for survival.

It is heartbreaking that despite our abundant resources as a nation, Nigerians have been subjected to agonizing life where they die struggling for food.

This horrifying situation in the country further confirms the APC as a party of “political vampires and buccaneers” who have no iota of regard for human life but rather derive pleasure in the suffering and death of citizens including innocent children.

Only this explains why the APC administration continues in arrogant false performance claims including empty assurances of food sufficiency while deliberately failing to make the required investments to boost the productive sector, particularly in agriculture and food production.

This also explains why the APC administration has rejected all advice and suggestions by the PDP and other well-meaning Nigerians to review the hasty implementation of the suffocating policies of abrupt increase in the price of petroleum products and the floating of the Naira, despite the crippling consequences on the productive sector and life-discounting effect on the citizenry.

More provoking is that instead of deploying the nation’s resources for the wellbeing of the people, the APC leaders are engaged in massive looting through direct pillaging of government vaults, budget padding, contract inflation, oil subsidy scam, palliative racketeering and phony programmes which have no benefit to the lives of the citizens.

The PDP calls on Nigerians to hold the Tinubu-led APC administration responsible for the remote cause of these tragic occurrences for which it must recompense.

Our Party insists that any administration that is sensitive and cares for the people would have since introduced intervention programmes to ease the suffering and improve on the welfare of the masses which is the primary purpose of government.

For the umpteenth time, the PDP demands the immediate review of all the suffocating economic and tax policies of the APC administration which are bringing misery and death to Nigerians daily.

The PDP commiserates with Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State for the death of the children at the private event which has brought agony and pain to many families and the people of Oyo State at this time.

Our Party commends Governor Makinde for his rapid response in swiftly moving the victims to hospitals for immediate medical assistance which helped to save many lives.

The PDP also condoles with the families of the victims of the Anambra State and Abuja food stampede while calling for an investigation into the immediate cause of the three tragic incidents so as to prevent such sad occurrence in the future.

Our Party prays for the repose of the souls of dead and speedy recovery for the injured.

N47.9t. 2025 Budget Hopeless, Shady, Disingenuous - PDP
…Urges National Assembly to Protect Nigerians, Rejig Provisions

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) describes the N47.9 trillion 2025 federal budget estimates as presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the National Assembly today as anti-people, which if implemented as presented will plunge the nation deeper into the abyss of insecurity, poverty and hopelessness.

The Party asserts that the budget as presented further confirms the insensitivity of the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration towards the plight of Nigerians as it made no meaningful provisions and investments for critical productive sectors of agriculture and food production, electricity, petroleum and gas, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, which are the real drivers of the national economy.

The PDP states that the budget address sounded more like a campaign rhetoric laced with unsubstantiated economic statistics, false promises and conjured performance claims without clear-cut operable steps and mechanisms to address insecurity, resuscitate the economy, revamp ailing industries, shore up food production, increase the value of the Naira, reduce overall cost of living, create jobs for our youths and guarantee better living standard for citizens.

President Tinubu dashed the hope of millions of suffering Nigerians who expected him to use the 2025 budget to make strategic provisions that will lead to the reduction in the cost of fuel, food items, electricity tariff and other essential goods and services that have direct bearing on the wellbeing of the people

The PDP is dismayed that instead, the budget speech was an assault on the sensibility of Nigerians when Mr. President claimed that the 2024 budget recorded a bogus 85% performance without a breakdown of the component between recurrent and capital expenditure.

Further distressing is President Tinubu’s claim that the economy improved under his watch even in the face of acute poverty, excruciating hardship, comatose infrastructure, collapsed productive sectors, deteriorating value of the Naira, alarming 34.6% inflation and 40% unemployment rates in the last 18 months as validated by official figures.

Equally ludicrous is Mr. President’s voodoo economy claim that the 2025 budget will reduce the current inflation rate from 34.6% to 15% and improve the value of the Naira from approximately N1,700 to the Dollar to N1,500 without any indices for tangible investment in the productive sector and in the face of a staggering N134.3 trillion ($91.3 billion) debt accumulated under the APC watch.

The PDP invites Nigerians to note that the President in his speech failed to disclose the Capital and Recurrent profiles of the 2025 budget. This has heightened public apprehension on the issue of full disclosure and transparency in government spending under the current administration.

Given the crippled national productive sector, it is clear that with the N47.9 trillion expenditure including N15.8 trillion provision for Debt Services, the projected N34.8 trillion revenue with N13 trillion deficit will be financed by excruciating taxes and levies on already impoverished citizens and companies operating in the country.

The 2025 budget as proposed will shrink our national business environment, further cripple the productive sector, discourage domestic and foreign investors, lead to further depreciation of the Naira, worsen unemployment and inflation rate and push million more Nigerians into abject poverty and invariably heighten insecurity.

The PDP therefore calls on the National Assembly not to pass the 2025 budget as presented but activate its legislative powers as guaranteed under Sections 80, 81 and 82 of the 1999 Constitution to rejig the budget and make provisions that are critical and pivotal to the growth of the economy and the welfare of Nigerians.

Opposition Triumph in Ghana Signposts End of APC’s Oppressive Rule in 2027- PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congratulates the people of Ghana for their resilience in defending democracy and ensuring that their Will prevailed in the Saturday, December 7, 2024 Presidential election which returned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President John Mahama to power.

The victory of democracy on the platform of the opposition NDC is a clear demonstration of the triumph of the power of the people over misrule and oppressive policies of government as now being witnessed in Nigeria under the corrupt, rudderless and insensitive All Progressives Congress (APC).

The verdict of the people of Ghana in this Presidential election is a signal to the APC that its days in office are numbered as the power of the people in Nigeria, just like in Ghana, will surely prevail, end APC’s oppressive rule and return Nigeria to the path of good governance, security, political stability and economic prosperity on the platform of the PDP in 2027.

It is intolerable that the APC has in the last nine and half years wrecked our collective patrimony, opened our country to terrorists resulting in the killing of over 65,000 Nigerians; destroyed the creative abilities of our youths; plunged our Naira from about N197 under the PDP to nearly N2,000 to the Dollar with over 34% inflation rate; crippled our productive sectors leading to over 40% unemployment rate; mortgaged the future of our country through reckless borrowing, foisted repressive policies including the rise in the cost of petrol from N97 per liter under the PDP to over N1,000 today and subjected Nigerians to misery where millions of families can no longer afford their daily meals and other basic necessities of life.

Also unacceptable to Nigerians is that our once thriving nation, which ranked as preferred destination for international foreign investment capital and one of the world’s fastest growing economies under the PDP has been brought to its knees by the APC with decayed infrastructure, comatose economy, worsening insecurity and social uncertainties occasioned by ill-conceived and ill-implemented macro-economic policies.

More distressing is that while Nigerians are subjected to harrowing hardship, APC leaders remain unconcerned and unaccountable; imposing harsh taxes and recklessly looting the nation’s treasury to finance their luxury appetites and consumption while arrogantly treating Nigerians as though they are a conquered people.

Major multinationals are now leaving our country in droves and life has become so unbearable that our citizens, particularly the youths are now resorting to su***de or slavery mission abroad as alternative because of the monumental misrule and insensitivity of the APC.

Nigerians now recall with nostalgia and earnestly seek a return of the golden years of the PDP in government as their only hope for survival and triumph of their dreams, aspiration and collective Will as a people.

The PDP therefore calls on all institutions of government especially the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to note the yearning of Nigerians and ensure that all processes are put in place to guarantee that only the Will of the people prevail in elections.

INEC must note that Nigerians are not ready to accept a repeat of the massive manipulation and perversion of the electoral process as witnessed in the 2019 and 2023 Presidential elections in our country.

The PDP charges Nigerians to remain firm and steadfast in their resolve to end the suppressive rule of the APC and re-establish good governance on the platform of the PDP come 2027.

PDP NWC Dismisses Purported Expulsion of Hon. Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu from Party

The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to the purported expulsion of Hon. Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu from the Party by the Umuopia/Umukegwu Ward Chapter of the PDP in Imo State.

The NWC declares the said purported expulsion as null and void and of no effect, not being consistent with the express provision of Sections 57 (7) and 59 (3) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017) and laid down Rules of our great Party.

Section 57 (7) of the Constitution of the PDP is clear in providing that “Notwithstanding any other provision relating to discipline, no Executive Committee at any level, except the National Executive Committee, shall entertain any question of discipline as may relate or concern a member of the National Executive Committee, Deputy Governors or members of the National Assembly…”

Also, Section 59 (3) of the Constitution of the PDP is unambiguous in providing that “Notwithstanding any other provision of this Constitution relating to discipline, no Executive Committee at any level except the National Executive Committee shall entertain any question of discipline as may relate or concern a member of the National Executive Committee, President, Vice President, Governors, Deputy Governors, Ministers, Ambassadors, Special Advisers or member of any of the Legislative Houses”.

It is therefore clear that no Ward, Local Government or even State Chapter of the Party has the power to suspend, expel or discipline a member of the National Assembly in any form whatsoever without due recourse to the National Working Committee as provided by the Constitution of the PDP.

The NWC strongly cautions that the PDP is an organized political Party governed by strict adherence to the provisions of its Constitution and Rules and will not allow any individual or group at any level to violate its Constitution and Rules under any circumstances whatsoever.

The NWC states that Hon. Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu remains a bona-fide member of the PDP with all rights, privileges, recognition, obligations and charges all leaders, critical stakeholders, members and supporters of our Party in Imo State and the nation to disregard the purported expulsion.

The NWC calls on all Party members in Imo State to remain united and continue to work together in the overall interest of our Party and the people.
