Many people believe it’s better to process their visa applications themselves rather than using an agent. I hear things like, “Why did I even use an agent when I can do it myself?” or “The reason I didn’t get the visa must be because I used an agent” — even though they may not tell you about incomplete documents or missed requirements on their part.
Now, let me clarify something: there’s absolutely nothing wrong with processing a visa on your own. In fact, doing it yourself can be beneficial, as it encourages you to ensure that all required documents are in place. Many mistakenly believe it’s an agent’s job to provide these documents, but that responsibility lies with the applicant.
However, it’s essential to understand that even when you apply independently, there’s no guarantee of success. Visa applications can still be rejected when done personally.
Is it compulsory to use an agent? No, absolutely not. But the role an agent plays in the visa process can be invaluable. The primary job of a qualified visa agent is to guide you through each step, ensuring you follow all requirements and conditions. They supervise the process, help with submissions, follow up on your behalf, and so on. However, keep in mind that it’s not the agent’s job to approve or reject your visa—that authority belongs solely to the embassy.
Many people seek out a “sure plug” who can guarantee 100% visa success. Unfortunately, this mindset has allowed fraudulent agents to exploit applicants with empty promises. The truth is that visa approval is never guaranteed; it’s a 50-50 decision, made by the embassy alone.
Additionally, it's not an agent’s role to provide your personal documents. Some clients assume an agent should handle everything, even providing documents like a passport or bank statements. I’ve even lost clients who expected me to supply their documentation. To be clear: I’ll never provide original documents for you. If you insist, don’t be surprised if you end up with forged documents, which can severely harm your future travel plans.
In summary, while there’s nothing wrong with applying on your own, working with a reputable visa agent can offer invaluable support and guidance. Just remember that whether you do it yourself or hire help, the ultimate decision rests with the embassy.
