NIGERIAN ARMY COLLEGE OF LOGISTICS AND MANAGEMENT EMBARKS ON MAIDEN AFRICA STUDY TOUR

The Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM) is embarking on Africa Study Tour (AST) 2023 to Malawi, Kenya, and Cote D’Ivoire respectively with the student of Senior Leadership and Staff Officers Course (SLSOC) 1/2023. The tour which is expected to be from 22 -28 May 2023 is part of an important component for students to get first-hand knowledge of the socio-economic, cultural, and political issues in the host countries and also constitutes a vital part of the College's curriculum for the students.

The tour is designed to expose the students to the socio-economic, political, and security imperatives that are fundamental to the development of the African state, and expose them to the realities of the African environment as compared to the theoretical knowledge gained through various lectures and studies. More so, to acquaint the students with the problems and prospects that are common and peculiar to the countries visited and lastly, to allow the students to know other countries and compare notes with what is obtainable in Nigeria. The theme for the 2023 Africa Study Tour is “Multilateral Co-operation: An Imperative for Regional Security”.

The Overall Tour Director, is the Commandant of the College, Major General Adekunle Adeyinka, while the team leader visiting Cote D’Ivoire is Brigadier General AJ Aliyu, the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies NACOLM. The Ag Director of Military Leadership and Staff Studies, Col KE Inyang, is leading team 3 to Kenya.

📷: Deep-sea researchers have completed the first full-size digital scan of the Titanic wreck, showing the entire relic in unprecedented detail and clarity.

👉 Using two remotely operated submersibles, a team of researchers spent six weeks in the North Atlantic mapping the whole shipwreck and the surrounding 3-mile debris field, where personal belongings of the ocean liner’s passengers, such as shoes and watches, were scattered. Richard Parkinson, founder and chief executive of deep-sea exploration firm Magellan, estimated that the resulting data is 10 times larger than any underwater 3D model ever attempted before. Researchers have spent months rendering the large amount of data they gathered, and a documentary on the project is expected to come out next year. (AP)

1. Her real name is Hilda Bassey Effiong. She is a young Nigerian chef from Akwa Ibom State. She owes a food brand in Lagos called "My Food by Hilda"

2. She will be cooking for 4 days non-stop.

3. She must stand to cook, she is not permitted to sit while cooking.

4. She’s not allowed to take coffee, stimulants, or any energy drink to artificially boost her energy and bodily strength while cooking

5. She's allowed to eat food, drink water or fruit juice, & take glucose

6. The cooking is taking place at Amore Gardens, Lekki, Lagos State, Nigeria.

Billionaire’ Femi Otedola in a telephone interview, was asked by the radio presenter, "Sir what can you remember made you a happy man in life?"

Femi said: “I have gone through four stages of happiness in life and finally I understood the meaning of true happiness.

The fourth stage was the time a friend of mine asked me to buy wheelchair for some disabled children. Just about 200 kids.

At the friend's request, I immediately bought the wheelchairs. But the friend insisted that I go with him and hand over the wheelchairs to the children. I got ready and went with him.

There I gave these wheel chairs to these children with my own hands. I saw the strange glow of happiness on the faces of these children. I saw them all sitting on the wheelchairs, moving around and having fun.

It was as if they had arrived at a picnic spot where they are sharing a jackpot wining.

I felt real joy inside me. When I decided to leave one of the kids grabbed my legs. I tried to free my legs gently but the child stared at my face and held my legs tightly.

I bent down and asked the child: Do you need something else? The answer this child gave me not only made me happy but also changed my attitude to life completely.

This child said: “I want to remember your face so that when I meet you in heaven, I will be able to recognize you and thank you once again.

The director of Afghanistan's media and information centre has been assassinated by Taliban militants in the capital, Kabul.

Dawa Khan Menapal was killed by gunmen on Darul Aman Road in the capital, reports said.

The Taliban said he had been "punished for his deeds".

It came as local officials said that the southern city of Zaranj had become the first provincial capital to fall to the Taliban.

A government source told the BBC that the insurgents had taken the city in Nimroz province, on the border with Iran, on Friday. The source said fighting was still happening around the National Directorate of Security office.

The reports have not been officially confirmed.

Menapal's killing came days after the Taliban assaulted the defence minister's home in Kabul.

After the attack on Wednesday - the first major bombing by militants in the city for nearly a year - the Taliban warned of further attacks on government figures.

"Unfortunately, the savage terrorists have committed a cowardly act once again and martyred a patriotic Afghan," interior ministry spokesman Mirwais Stanikzai said.

US Charge d'Affaires to Afghanistan Ross Wilson tweeted that he was "saddened and disgusted" by the killing, adding: "These murders are an affront to Afghans' human rights and freedom of speech."

The UN Security Council has called an open meeting for Friday on the situation in Afghanistan amid worsening violence.

Taliban militants have captured large swathes of the countryside and are now attacking key cities including Kandahar in the south, economically important Herat, and Lashkar Gar - capital of Helmand Province.

It comes after US and other international forces announced their withdrawal following two decades of operations.

Diplomats said Afghan government officials requested the meeting in view of the growing unrest. It is set to start at 10:00 local time (14:00 GMT) in New York, diplomats said.

On Thursday night US and Afghan forces launched air strikes on Taliban positions in Lashkar Gah.

Government troops have vowed not to lose the strategically significant town, and fighting there has been fierce. Officials have urged civilians to evacuate, with thousands trapped or fleeing for their lives.

Russia meanwhile has held military drills with Uzbek forces this week, amid growing concerns about security in the region - including the capture of key Afghan border crossings in the past month.

On Thursday the European Union called for "an urgent, comprehensive and permanent ceasefire" in Afghanistan as the "senseless violence" escalates.

CASTLE OF THE WEEK: DUNSEVERICK
Located near the famous Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, Dunseverick Castle is situated among rugged coastal landscapes. The site has been fortified since the 5th century, and legend has it that Saint Patrick visited the nearby village where he baptised a future bishop of Ireland called Olcán. Later a part of the Gaelic kingdom of Dalriada, Dunseverick became the seat of one of its legendary kings, Fergus Mór. It was also the northern terminus of an ancient Irish royal highway called "Slige Midluachra" (‘High Kings Road’).
Vikings attacked the area in 870 and destroyed the original fort but Dunseverick’s history was not just confined to the Dark Ages. The castle was the home of the O’Cahan family for centuries and it was captured and largely demolished by Scottish Covenanter forces commanded by Colonel Robert Munro during the British Civil Wars. Such was the destruction during the 17th Century that only ruins of the gate lodge still exist. Another small tower did survive but it eventually collapsed into the sea in 1978. What remains of the architecture dates from approximately the 16th century, and is similar to other Ulster fortresses, including nearby Dunluce Castle.

Ibrahim Babaginda, a former Nigerian military president, on Friday, August 6, claimed that his regime fought corruption better than the current administration is doing.

In an Arise TV interview on Friday monitored by Daily Trust, Babangida boasted that his administration did a better job in fighting the nation's number one enemy: corruption.

He noted that if a comparative study is done between his government and the present leadership, Nigerians will discover that he and his then cabinet members are saints.

NDA CADETS TO COMMENCE EXERCISE CAMP HIGHLAND

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) will commence its final outdoor EXERCISE CAMP HIGHLAND for 68 Regular Course Army Cadets from 25 July - 14 August 2021 in Plateau and Kaduna States respectively. The exercise is designed to test the Cadets Leadership skills, Physical fitness, Map Reading, Command and Control capabilities among other military competencies. The exercise is also a major platform used to ascertain the level of preparedness of the final year Army Cadets before their Commissioning as Officers in the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Consequently, communities living a round HEIPANG in Barkin Ladi and SHERE HILLS in Jos, Plateau state are enjoined not to panic on seeing mass movement of military personnel, vehicles and equipment in the general area from 25 - 31 July 2021. Similarly, residents of KATUL CROSSING, GIDAN ALI, KATUL- ZANGON KATAF, DUTSEN BAKO, KAMARU-IKULU AND FADAN-KAMANTA axis in Kachia general area of Kaduna State will observe same movement from 31July - 14 August 2021. Locals in the general areas mentioned are therefore advised to go about their normal daily routine activities and report any breach of security to the nearest authority. Furthermore, Battle inoculation which includes live firing of small arms and artillery weapons will also be conducted within the general exercise area in Kachia. Therefore, locals of ANINKWA, INSANE and neighbouring communities are advised to stay away from the live firing area during the period of the exercise. In our part, all necessary measures and arrangement were put in place to ensure safety in the exercise areas. Also, NDA will embark on various civil military Cooperation activities including commissioning of boreholes as well as free medical outreach in Kachia, Kaduna State as part of the activities for EXERCISE CAMP HIGHLAND.

We wish to appeal for the cooperation from the local communities directly affected by the Exercise and Nigerians as a whole as we train future leaders for our Armed Forces. You are please requested to use your medium to enlighten the general public, particularly the inhabitants of the aforementioned areas.
