Gwamna Abba Kabir Yusuf ya sanar da cewa Gwamnatin Jihar Kano na shirin ƙirƙirar sabbin birane a jihar ta hanyar ware filaye 2,483 a Yargaya da Rijiyar Gwangwan a karamar hukumar Dawakin-Kudu da kuma filaye 1,671 a Unguwar Rimi da Lambu a karamar hukumar Tofa, a yunƙurin rage cunkoso a cikin birnin Kano. Duk da cewa wannan shiri yana da kyau, amma ina ganin akwai hanyar da ya kamata gwamnatin ta bi don samar da kyakkyawan sakamako wanda zai bambanta da na gwamnatocin da s**a gabata.

Sanata Rabiu Kwankwaso da Sanata Ibrahim Shekarau su ma sun aiwatar da irin waɗannan ayyukan gina birane a lokacin mulkinsu. Misali, Sanata Kwankwaso ya ƙirƙiri biranen Kwankwasiyya da Bandarawo a wajen birnin Kano da nufin rage cunkoso a cikin gari. Amma abin takaici, duk da biliyoyin nairorin da aka kashe, har yanzu waɗannan birane ba a fara amfani da su yadda ya kamata ba.

The Governor of Adamawa state, Umaru Fintiri has approved the payment of ₦70,000 national minimum wage to workers on the state and local government payroll.

This was revealed by the State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emmanuel Fashe in an interview with newsmen shortly after a closed-door meeting with the governor on Tuesday.

According to him, the state government workers will start receiving their salaries with the new minimum wage from August 2024, while their counterparts at the local government level will benefit from September.

Comrade Fashe explained that the template to be used is the consequential adjustment table that was used in 2019, pending the release of the table from the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Bola Tinubu, to direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) and appropriate anti-corruption agencies, to promptly and thoroughly investigate the spending of $1.5bn World Bank loan obtained by the 36 states and Abuja for poverty reduction and social protection across the states.

SERAP said, “Suspected perpetrators of corruption and mismanagement should face prosecution as appropriate, if there is sufficient admissible evidence, and any proceeds of corruption should be fully recovered.”

SERAP also urged him to direct Fagbemi and appropriate anti-corruption agencies to promptly investigate the alleged mismanagement of the Chinese loans of $3.121bn obtained by the Federal Government.

In the open letter dated 10 August 2024 and signed by SERAP deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare, the organisation said ensuring accountability for the spending of World Bank loans and Chinese loans, would build trust in democratic institutions with the ultimate aim of strengthening the rule of law.

“Impunity for corruption in the management of World Bank loans and Chinese loans will continue as long as high-ranking public officials go largely unpunished for their alleged crimes.
