QUICK TAKES:
TINUBU REPORTEDLY DIRECTS SALE OF THREE PRESIDENTIAL JETS OVER COST OF MAINTENANCE

Three jets in the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF) are to be sold off to cut down on the bloated cost of running the government.

According to the Nation, there are 10 aircraft currently in the presidential fleet – six jets and four helicopters – which will be cut to seven if the planned action sails through.

According to the report, this is part of the cost-saving measures being adopted by president bola Tinubu’s administration.

Although the amount released from the budgetary line year on year could not be ascertained, the president was said to be uncomfortable with the rising cost of maintenance and therefore directed that the fleet should be reduced.

QUICK TAKES:
AfDB PRESIDENT, ADESINA, PROPOSES NEW NAME FOR NIGERIA
President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has proposed that Nigeria should be renamed the “United States of Nigeria.”

Adesina made this suggestion during a lecture delivered as the recipient of the 2024 Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Leadership. He argued that renaming the country to ‘the United States of Nigeria’ would shift the relational dynamics between the states and the federal capital, Abuja.

He proposed that under this new framework, the states would serve as the fulcrum, with the center supporting them rather than lording over them.

Q: IS THE PROPOSAL FEASIBLE OR REALISTIC?

QUICK TAKES:
TRADITIONALISTS WANT TRADITIONAL RELIGIOUS KNOWLEDGE AS SUBJECT IN SCHOOLS
Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association, on Wednesday, urged both the federal and state governments to establish schools where traditional religious knowledge would be taught as a subject, to impart the younger generation with the Yoruba Culture and Tradition.

Fakayode, in a statement personally signed, stressed the need for proper education to disabuse the minds of the younger generation about Yoruba history and antecedents.

He explained that the miseducation of Africans about their origin and culture had led to many wrong perceptions about their traditional religion.

Q: SHOULD GOVERNMENT INCLUDE TRADITIONAL RELIGION IN CURRICULA OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS?
