THE EVIL FOREST

CHAPTER 5

Mrs. Okeke smiled mischievously.

"Since we're discussing storytelling and the power of imagination, I have a surprise for you all."

The students leaned in, curious.

"Our annual school excursion has been rescheduled to... the Evil Forest."

The classroom erupted into cheers and gasps.

"Yes, you heard that right,"
Mrs. Okeke continued.

"We'll explore the forest, and you'll see that it's just a normal forest, devoid of vultures with human heads."

Enex's eyes widened, mixed emotions swirling inside.

Was this a good idea?

Sophia grinned at him.

"Bro, this is perfect!
We'll prove it's just a myth."

The other students buzzed with excitement.

"I'm going to take a selfie with the vulture!"
someone joked.

Mrs. Okeke chuckled.

"I doubt you'll find any vultures, human-headed or not."

As the excitement died down, Mrs. Okeke turned serious.

"Today's topic:
The Power of Imagination in Storytelling."

She wrote on the blackboard:

"Discuss how imagination influences the creation and perception of stories."

The students opened their notebooks, eager to dive in.

Enex couldn't concentrate, his mind wandering to the forest.

What would they find there?

Was the vulture truly just a myth?

As the lesson progressed, Enex's thoughts drifted back to his father's words:

"The forest has secrets, Enex.
Be careful."

He pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on his notes.

But the forest's presence lingered, a constant hum in the back of his mind.

The lesson ended, and the students packed up.

"Remember, class,"
Mrs. Okeke said,
"the excursion is in two weeks.
Prepare your hiking boots and curiosity."

The students filed out, chatting excitedly.

Enex turned to Sophia.

"You think we'll really find nothing?"

Sophia shrugged.

"Maybe. But what if we do?"

Enex's heart skipped a beat.

Days passed quickly, with the students eagerly anticipating the excursion.
Enex found himself lost in thought, pondering the forest's secrets.

In class, Mrs. Okeke reviewed the itinerary.

"Remember, we'll be hiking for about three hours, exploring the forest's diverse ecosystems."

Sophia raised her hand.

"Mrs. Okeke, what if we find something... unusual?"

Mrs. Okeke smiled.

"That's the excitement of discovery!
We'll document and analyze any findings."

Enex's mind wandered, conjuring images of the vulture.

The night before the excursion, Enex couldn't sleep.
His thoughts swirled with possibilities.

Sophia entered his room.

"Can't sleep, bro?"

Enex shook his head.

"What if we really find something?"

Sophia's expression turned serious.

"Then we'll face it together."

The twins exchanged a knowing glance.

The next morning, Enex and Sophia joined their classmates at the school entrance.

Mrs. Okeke led the group, wearing a backpack and a first-aid kit.

"Today's the day! Let's explore the so called Evil Forest!"

The students cheered, their excitement palpable.

As they set off, Enex felt a mix of emotions:
anticipation, curiosity, and a hint of fear.

The forest loomed ahead, its secrets waiting to be uncovered.

After a scenic drive, they arrived at Nkoroma village, nestled at the foot of the Evil Forest.
Enex and her sister Sophia led the group to the village square, where the elders awaited.

The village elder, Chief Ogbunadi, greeted them warmly.

"Welcome, students and teachers.
We've heard of your brave endeavor."

Mrs. Okeke explained their mission.

"We've come to explore the Forest, to uncover its secrets and debunk the myths."

Chief Ogbunadi nodded thoughtfully.

"The stories of the vulture's killing during our forefathers' time are true.
But we don't know if it still lurks."

He paused, surveying the group.

"None of our villagers dare venture there.
The forest's darkness has held us back for generations."

Mrs. Okeke smiled resolutely.

"We understand the risks, but we're here to shed light on the truth.
We'll investigate, document, and share our findings."

The elders exchanged skeptical glances.

"Be cautious,"
Chief Ogbunadi warned.

"The forest has a reputation for a reason."

With the elders' blessing, the group prepared to embark on their journey.

Mrs. Okeke addressed the students.

"Remember, our goal is to uncover the truth.
Stay vigilant, stay curious."

Enex felt his heart racing.

Sophia grinned at him.

"Time to uncover the secrets, bro!"

The group shouldered their backpacks, equipped with cameras, notebooks, and water.

As they left the village, the forest's dense foliage loomed ahead.

The air thickened with anticipation.

They began their ascent into the Evil Forest.

The trees seemed to close in around them, casting long, ominous shadows.

Enex whispered to Sophia.

"Do you feel it?
The forest's energy?"

Sophia nodded.

"It's like it's watching us."

Mrs. Okeke called out.

"Stay together!
Let's move forward!"

The group pressed on, into the heart of the forest.

THE EVIL FOREST

CHAPTER 4

Nduka's eyes locked onto his children's, ensuring they grasped the gravity of the tale.

"So, my children,"
Nduka said, his voice low and solemn,

"that's the story of the Evil Forest.
A place where many brave hunters ventured in, but never returned."

His children exchanged nervous glances, their eyes wide with fear.

"But why did the vulture kill them, Father?"
Akua asked, her voice trembling.

Nduka's expression turned grave.

"Some say the vulture was a messenger of the forest's dark spirits.
Others claim it was a cursed creature, born from the forest's evil energy."

Enex, Nduka's eldest son, frowned.

"I don't understand, Father.
What evil energy?"

Nduka leaned in, his voice barely above a whisper.

"The forest has a dark history, my son.
Many years ago, our ancestors made a pact with a powerful entity to ensure the village's prosperity.
But the entity demanded a terrible price:
human sacrifices."

The children gasped, their eyes wide with horror.

"The villagers refused to continue the sacrifices,"

Nduka continued,
"but the entity's curse remained.
The forest became a place of darkness, where the vulture and other creatures roam, seeking victims to satiate the entity's hunger."

The room fell silent, the fire crackling in the background.

"Father, is the vulture still out there?"
Akua asked, her voice barely audible.

Nduka's expression turned somber.

"Some say the vulture still lurks in the shadows, waiting for its next victim.
Others claim it's just a myth, a cautionary tale to keep children from wandering into the forest."

Enex's eyes narrowed.

"I don't believe it's just a myth, Father.
I think there's truth to the story."

Nduka's gaze locked onto Enex's.

"Be careful, my son.
The forest is no place for curiosity.
Remember, the villagers' fear is real, and the forest's secrets are best left unspoken."

The children nodded, their faces pale.

As the night wore on, Nduka's tale lingered in their minds, a haunting reminder of the Evil Forest's dark legacy.

"Get some rest, children,"
Nduka said, his voice softening.

"Tomorrow's a new day."

The children nodded, retiring to their rooms, their dreams no doubt filled with visions of the vulture and the Evil Forest.

But Enex couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to the story.

After the holidays, Enex and his twin sister Sophia returned to school, eager to reunite with their friends and teachers.

Their teacher, Mrs. Okeke, welcomed them with a warm smile.

"Today,"
she announced,

"we're going to explore the art of storytelling.
Your assignment is to share a story from your hometown, something that's been passed down through generations."

Mrs. Okeke explained that storytelling was an essential part of their cultural heritage, and by sharing these tales, they would preserve the history and traditions of their communities.

The students exchanged excited glances, and soon, the classroom was abuzz with chatter.

Enex's hand shot up first.

"Mrs. Okeke, I have a story,"
he said, his eyes sparkling.

"Go ahead, Enex,"
Mrs. Okeke encouraged.

Enex took a deep breath and began.

"It's the story of the Evil Forest in my village.
A place where many brave hunters ventured in but never returned.
A vulture with a human head roams the forest, seeking victims to satiate the entity's hunger."

The classroom fell silent, captivated by Enex's tale.

When he finished, Mrs. Okeke smiled.

"Thank you, Enex.
That was quite a vivid story."

But then her expression turned serious.

"However, class, I must remind you that such stories are mere fantasies, meant to scare children into behaving.
They're not based on facts."

Enex's face fell, slightly disappointed.

"But, Mrs. Okeke,"
he protested.

"my father told me it's true.
Many people in our village believe it."

Mrs. Okeke chuckled.

"I'm sure they do, Enex.
But sometimes, stories are exaggerated or distorted over time.
The Evil Forest might be a metaphor for the dangers of the real world, rather than an actual place."

The classroom erupted into discussion, with students sharing their own thoughts on the matter.

Sophia leaned over to Enex.

"Maybe Mrs. Okeke is right, bro.
Maybe it's just a story."

Enex frowned, unsure.

"But what if it's not?
What if the Evil Forest is real?"

Mrs. Okeke overheard their conversation.

"Enex, Sophia, that's the beauty of storytelling – it sparks imagination and curiosity.
But we must separate fact from fiction."

Enex nodded, though his mind still wandered to the Evil Forest.

Was it truly just a myth?

Or did the vulture's haunting laughter echo through the trees, waiting for its next victim?

The debate lingered, a seed planted in Enex's mind.

THE EVIL FOREST

CHAPTER 3

As Ebube sat amidst the darkness, his tears slowly dried.
He took a deep breath, and his voice trembled into a sorrowful melody.

"Oh, Mother, forgive me,"

he sang, his words echoing through the forest.

"In your warnings,
I did not see
The danger lurking,
the evil decree
I thought
my strength would be enough
But now I'm lost,
in this endless rough"

His voice cracked, but he continued, pouring his heart into the song.

"I should have listened,
I should have stayed
But pride and
courage led me astray
Now Okoro's gone,
Amadi too
And I'm left here,
with nothing to do"

Ebube's song grew louder, a plea for forgiveness.

"Mother, forgive my foolish ways
I know I failed,
in this endless maze
I promise to return,
to make it right
To leave this forest,
and its darkness tonight"

The forest's sounds faded, as if entranced by Ebube's haunting melody.
Crickets paused, leaves stilled, and the wind held its breath.

For a moment, the darkness seemed less oppressive, as if Ebube's song had momentarily lifted the forest's curse.

As he finished, Ebube's voice trailed off, leaving only silence.

Suddenly, a faint rustling replied, like the forest itself responding to his plea.
Ebube's heart skipped a beat.
He heard a cry of one of his groups.
he sprinted towards the cry.
His legs pounded the earth, leaves crunching beneath his feet.

As he ran, the cry grew louder, more desperate.

"Help!!!!! Help!!!!"

He recognized the voice – Ogbuagu, one of the hunters.

Ebube burst through the underbrush, and his eyes widened in horror.

Ogbuagu lay on the ground, the vulture's talons gripping his chest.

Ebube charged forward, determined to save his friend.

But the vulture turned, its eyes blazing with malevolence.

Ebube skidded to a stop, frozen in terror.

The vulture's wings spread wide, casting a dark shadow.

Ogbuagu's eyes locked onto Ebube's, pleading for help.

With a fierce cry, Ebube launched himself at the vulture.

But the creature's beak snapped shut, inches from his face.

Ebube stumbled back, tripping over roots.

As he fell, the vulture swooped down.

Its talons ripped through Ebube's chest, piercing his heart.

Ebube's vision faded, his screams echoing through the forest.

The vulture's triumphant screech drowned out his cries.

Ogbuagu's eyes went wide, witnessing his friend's brutal demise.

The vulture turned to Ogbuagu, its gaze cold, calculating.

Ogbuagu's screams joined Ebube's, echoing through the forest.

The darkness closed in, claiming two more victims.

The vulture's shadow loomed, a harbinger of death.

And in the darkness, the forest's evil presence smiled.

Weeks turned into months, and the silence from the hunters was deafening.
The villagers' initial concern turned to dread.
Whispers spread, fueled by fear and uncertainty.

"Something terrible has happened,"
some said.

"The forest has consumed them,"
others whispered.

The village elders convened, their faces grave with concern.
After deliberation, they made a declaration:

"From this day forward, the forest is forbidden.
No one shall venture near it, lest they suffer the same fate as our brave hunters and others who died in the forest."

The villagers nodded in agreement, fear etched on their faces.

And so, the forest was christened
"Evil Forest,"
a place of darkness and terror.

Villagers avoided its edges, fearing the unknown dangers lurking within.
Children were warned to stay far from its shadows.

Rumors spread of strange noises and eerie lights emanating from the forest.
Some claimed to have seen shadowy figures darting between trees.

The villagers' fear became a palpable force, shaping their daily lives.

No one dared mention the hunters' names, as if speaking would conjure the evil that took them.

Ebube's mother, once full of life, now wandered the village, her eyes sunken, her heart heavy.

"My son,"
she whispered to herself, tears streaming down her face.

"Why did you not listen?"

As time passed, the villagers' memories of the hunters began to fade, replaced by cautionary tales of the Evil Forest.

But the forest remained, waiting, watching, its secrets hidden behind a veil of darkness.

And in the silence, the vulture's haunting laughter echoed, a reminder of the terror that lurked within.

THE EVIL FOREST

CHAPTER 2

Okoro's vision faded as the vulture's talons pierced his chest.
He struggled, but the creature's grip was unyielding.
With a final, guttural cry, Okoro's life slipped away.

The remaining hunters froze in terror, witnessing their leader's brutal demise.
Panic set in as they scrambled to flee.

"Run!!!"
one of them shouted.

Amadi, the youngest hunter, turned to flee but stumbled.
The vulture swooped down, its talons extended.

"NO!"
Amadi screamed.

The vulture's claws ripped through Amadi's back, and he crumpled to the ground.
His cries echoed through the forest, gradually fading into silence.

The remaining hunters fled in desperation, abandoning their fallen comrades.

As they stumbled through the darkness, the vulture's haunting laughter echoed through the trees.

"We have to get out of here!"
Ebube yelled.

"But where's Okoro?"
another hunter asked.

Ebube's face fell.

"He's...gone."

The hunters' fear turned to despair.
Without Okoro, their best hunter, they felt lost and vulnerable.

Suddenly, the forest grew quieter, as if the vulture was waiting for its next victim.

The hunters' frantic footsteps echoed through the forest, but the vulture's presence seemed to close in around them.

Exhausted and traumatized, the remaining hunters gathered at a clearing deep in the forest.
The darkness seemed to suffocate them, and the silence was oppressive.

"Okoro's gone,"
Ebube whispered, his voice trembling.

"We can't stay here."

"But where can we go?"
another hunter asked, desperation creeping into his voice.

The group fell silent, their eyes scanning the surrounding trees.
The forest seemed to loom over them, its shadows twisting into menacing forms.

"We need to rest,"
Ebube decided.

"We'll continue at dawn."

The hunters nodded, huddling together for comfort.
The night air was heavy with fear and uncertainty.

As they settled, the forest's sounds began to resume – crickets chirping, leaves rustling.
But the hunters' nerves remained on edge.

Suddenly, a faint whispering began, like leaves blown by an invisible wind.
The hunters exchanged nervous glances.

"What's that?"
someone whispered.

The whispering grew louder, swirling around them.
The hunters' hearts pounded.

Then, an unseen force grabbed one of the hunters, dragging him screaming into the darkness.

"Aaaahhhhh!"
the hunter yelled, his voice fading into the night.

Panic erupted.
The hunters scrambled to their feet, terror-driven.

"Run!"
Ebube shouted.

The group dispersed, fleeing in different directions.
Some stumbled, others sprinted.
The forest swallowed them whole.

Ebube dashed through the underbrush, his heart racing.
He didn't dare look back.

Ogbuagu sprinted uphill, his breath coming in ragged gasps.

Ugo vanished into the shadows, his footsteps echoing through the trees.

The remaining hunters scattered, desperate to escape the unknown force.

As they fled, the whispering grew louder, a deafening roar that seemed to pursue them.

The night had become a living nightmare, and the hunters were its prey.

They ran, their lives depending on it...

Ebube's legs pumped furiously as he sprinted through the forest, his heart racing with terror.
Branches whipped past his face, and leaves crunched beneath his feet.
He didn't dare look back, fearing what he might see.

His breath came in ragged gasps, his lungs burning.
His legs ached, but he pushed on, driven by fear.

How did it come to this?
Okoro, the strongest hunter, fallen.
Amadi, the youngest, gone.
And now, one of their own, dragged away by an unseen force.

Ebube's thoughts swirled, his mind reeling.
He stumbled, regained his footing, and kept running.

Finally, exhaustion overtook him.
He slowed, then stopped, collapsing onto the forest floor.
Gasping, he sat on the ground, his back against a tree.

Ebube's eyes welled up with tears as memories flooded his mind.
His mother's warnings echoed in his thoughts.

"Ebube, don't go into that forest,"
she had pleaded, her eyes brimming with tears.

"Something evil lurks there.
Please, my son, stay safe."

He remembered her grasping his hands, her voice trembling.

"I'll be fine, Mother,"
he had reassured her, confident in his hunting skills.

Now, as the darkness closed in, Ebube realized his foolishness.
His mother's words haunted him.

"Why didn't I listen?"
he whispered, tears streaming down his face.

Ebube buried his face in his hands, overcome with grief and regret.
The forest's silence seemed to mock him, a reminder of his failure.

As he sat there, lost in despair, the forest's sounds began to resume – crickets chirping, leaves rustling.
But Ebube's heart remained heavy, weighed down by fear and sorrow.

Suddenly, a faint rustling caught his attention.
Ebube's head je**ed up, his senses on high alert.

30/10/2024

"Please don't kill me!"
Stella shouted, her voice echoing through the forest.
She frantically scanned her surroundings, her eyes fixed on the vulture closing in.

The bird's sharp talons extended, its feathers rustling in the wind.
Stella turned to flee, her feet pounding against the earth.

But the vulture was relentless.
It swooped down, its wings beating fiercely, and blocked Stella's path.

Stella spun around, desperate to escape.
That's when she saw a monstrous vulture with a human head.

The creature's eyes blazed with an unnatural intelligence.
Its human-like face twisted into a grotesque grin.

Stella tried to scream, but her voice caught in her throat.
The vulture's talons grasped her shoulders, pinning her down.

The creature's human head leaned in, its eyes burning with malevolence.

With a swift motion, the vulture plucked out one of Stella's eyes.
Her vision faded, and her screams were silenced.

The forest fell silent once more, the only sound the vulture's triumphant screech echoing through the trees.

The vulture vanished into thin air, leaving Stella's lifeless body behind.
The forest seemed to grow quieter, as if mourning the loss of another innocent soul.

The next morning, Ebube ventured into the forest, his routine unchanged.
He checked his traps, expecting another successful hunt.
But instead, he stumbled upon Stella's body.

Ebube's eyes widened in horror.
He recognized Stella, a young woman from their village.
Her once vibrant face now pale and still, one eye socket empty and bloody.

He rushed back to the village, his heart racing.

"Stella's dead!"
he shouted, alarm etched on his face.

"The forest has claimed another!"

The villagers gathered around, concern and fear spreading.
The elders quickly mobilized, following Ebube back to the forest.

As they approached the scene, the elders' faces fell.

"This is the work of the devil,"
one of them whispered.

The village chief, Ike, examined the body.

"This is no animal attack.
This is the work of something sinister."

The villagers exchanged nervous glances. Whispers of the vulture's return spread.

"We must perform a ritual to cleanse the forest,"
Ike declared.

"This evil must be stopped."

The villagers nodded in agreement, but Ebube's thoughts lingered on Stella's fate.

"Who will be next?"
he wondered.

He kept thinking as they carried Stella's dead body back to the village.

The news of Stella's tragic demise spread like wildfire through the village, striking fear into the hearts of its residents.
No one dared venture into the forest again, fearing they might be the next victim.

"This is the second person this month," whispered Nkechi, a village elder.

"What evil lurks in our forest?"

The villagers gathered, sharing worried glances.
They recalled the death of young Uche, whose body was found mutilated just weeks ago.

"It can't be a natural predator,"
said Okoro, a skilled hunter.

"The wounds are too precise, too calculated."

Rumors began to circulate about a monster hiding in the forest's depths.
Some believed it was a vengeful spirit, while others thought it might be a human killer.

Ike, the village chief, called a meeting to address the growing panic.

"We must find a way to stop this evil,"

he declared.
"We can't let fear paralyze our lives."

But as night fell, the villagers locked their doors, praying for dawn to come.
The forest loomed, shrouded in darkness, its secrets hidden.

Unbeknownst to them, the monster watched from the shadows, waiting for its next victim.

Days passed, and the villagers' fear only intensified.
No one dared venture into the forest, and daily life began to suffer.

"We can't live like this,"
Ike said during a village meeting.

"We need to find a solution."

Okoro, the hunter, stepped forward.

"I'll gather a team to hunt this monster.

We'll protect our village."

The villagers nodded in agreement, hopeful.

That night, Okoro's team entered the forest, torches and spears in hand.
They moved cautiously, scanning the darkness.

Suddenly, a twig snapped. The team froze.

"Show yourself!" Okoro shouted.

A figure emerged from the shadows – tall, imposing, with eyes glowing like embers.

The team attacked, but the creature proved formidable.
Okoro fell, wounded.

As the creature loomed over him, Okoro saw its face – human-like, yet twisted.

"You're...one of us?"
Okoro whispered.

The creature's response was a haunting laugh.

THE HUNTING HOUSE

FINAL

I stepped out of the hospital room to fetch Esther some apples.
She had asked me to get her some fruits, and I wanted to fulfill her request.

Down the street, I quickly purchased the apples and headed back to the hospital.
As I entered the room, my heart sank.

Esther lay motionless on the bed, her eyes closed. I screamed, dropping the apples.

Fear gripped me, and I stumbled backward.
Doctors and nurses rushed in, their faces somber.

"I'm so sorry,"
one of them whispered, confirming my worst fears.
"Esther's gone."

Tears streamed down my face as I collapsed into a chair.
The room blurred around me.

Minutes passed, and the door burst open.
Esther's mother rushed in, her eyes scanning the room.
Then she saw Esther.

Her cry echoed through the hospital, a heart-wrenching wail.
Esther's body was gently taken to the mortuary, surrounded by mourning loved ones.

News of Esther's demise spread rapidly through the campus.
Outrage and grief fueled the students.

A mob of angry students marched to the landlord's house, demanding justice.
The landlord's deceit had led to Esther's death.

The police arrived, arresting the landlord for negligence and manslaughter.
As the sun set, the campus mourned Esther's loss.
I sat alone, overcome with grief.

Days passed, and the campus mourned Esther's loss.
I struggled to come to terms with the tragedy.

The landlord's trial began, and I testified against him.
His deceit had cost Esther her life.

The jury delivered a guilty verdict, and the landlord faced prison time.
Esther's family held a memorial service, celebrating her life.
I attended, my heart heavy.

As I looked around at the sea of faces, I realized Esther's legacy lived on.

Her death wouldn't be in vain; it sparked change.
The university implemented stricter housing regulations.
Students became more vigilant, demanding safer living conditions.

I visited Esther's grave often, reflecting on our time together.

I found solace in the thought that Esther's memory would continue to inspire others.

Rest in peace, Esther.

THE HUNTING HOUSE

CHAPTER 7

I didn't know what to do next, my mind racing with terror.
I rushed to the kitchen, desperately seeking something, anything, to save Esther.
My eyes landed on the salt container, and I grabbed it, hoping its purifying properties would ward off Ella's evil.

As I turned to leave, the kitchen door slammed shut, trapping me.
I frantically pounded on the door, but it wouldn't budge.
I looked through the keyhole, and my heart sank.

Ella was bent over Esther, her mouth bloodied, sucking Esther's life force away.
Esther's eyes were closed, her body limp.
I cried out in anguish, my screams muffled by the door.

With newfound determination, I scanned the kitchen for a tool to break free.
My hand closed around a heavy iron skillet.
With a surge of adrenaline, I smashed the skillet into the door, splintering the wood.

The door creaked open, and I burst into the living room.
Ella still hovered over Esther, her eyes glowing with malevolence.

I rushed towards her, salt at the ready.

"Get away from her!"
I shouted.

Ella turned, her gaze locking onto mine.
I poured the salt directly onto her twisted form.

She let out a blood-curdling scream as the salt seared her skin.
Her body began to disintegrate, her face contorting in agony.
And then, she vanished.

I rushed to Esther's side, my heart heavy with fear.
Blood gushed out from all over her body, pooling on the floor.
I knelt beside her, tears streaming down my face.

"Esther, please hold on!"
I begged, grasping her hand.

Her eyes flickered open, and she whispered,
"Get...out...while...you...still...can."

I nodded, determination coursing through me.
I carefully lifted Esther into my arms and stumbled towards the door.

Outside, the bright sunlight offered no comfort.
I quickly rushed to gather my belongings, packing them hastily into bags.
As I worked, a chilling realization dawned on me.

This was why no one lived in the house.
This was why the landlord offered it at such a ridiculously low price.

A wave of anger washed over me.
How could the landlord knowingly rent out a haunted house?
How could he condemn innocent people to suffer at evil spirit's hands?

I glanced back at the house, its innocent facade now revealed as a deceit.

I promised myself that I wouldn't let anyone else fall prey to spirit's malevolence.
With a resolute determination, I turned back to the house.
The darkness seemed to shroud it, as if already mourning its impending loss.

I retrieved a lighter from my bag and returned to the house.
The flames ignited with a soft whoosh, spreading rapidly through the dry wood.
The house crackled and groaned, consumed by fire.

As I watched, a sense of justice washed over me.
No one else would suffer within those walls.

I quickly dialed the emergency number, and soon, sirens pierced the night air.
Paramedics rushed to Esther's side, carefully loading her into the ambulance.

"Will she be okay?"
I asked, anxiety gnawing at me.

"We'll do everything we can,"
one of them reassured.

With the fire department arriving to battle the blaze, I followed the ambulance to the hospital.

The night air still clung to the darkness, but I felt a glimmer of hope.

After ensuring Esther received medical attention, I headed to her apartment to gather my thoughts and unpack my bags.

The silence of the night surrounded me as I entered her cozy space.
I locked the door, feeling a sense of safety wash over me.

But as I began to unpack, my mind lingered on the events of the night.
Ella's malevolent presence still haunted me.

The following morning, I rushed to the hospital, eager to check on Esther's condition.
As I entered her room, she smiled weakly from the bed.

"Hey,"
she whispered, her voice still frail.

"Hey,"
I replied, taking her hand.
"How are you feeling?"

"Better,"
she said, her eyes locked on mine.

"Can you call my parents?
I need to talk to Mom."

I nodded and dialed the number on my phone.
Esther's hands trembled as she took the phone from me.

"Mom?"
she said, her voice cracking.

I stepped back, giving her space as she recounted the events of the previous night.
Her mother's voice rose in shock and concern on the other end of the line.

Esther's eyes welled up with tears.

"I want to see you today, Mom.
Please come."

After the call, Esther handed me the phone, her face pale.

As we waited, news of the incident spread like wildfire through the campus grapevine.
Soon, our course mates and friends began to trickle in, visiting Esther in the hospital.

"Hey, how's she doing?"

one of our friends asked, concern etched on his face.

I filled them in on Esther's condition, and they offered words of encouragement.

The hospital room filled with the hum of conversation and well-wishes.
Esther's smile grew stronger, buoyed by the support.

As the morning wore on, the room became a hub of activity, with friends and acquaintances dropping by to offer support.

Esther's eyes met mine, gratitude shining in them.

"Thanks for being here,"
she whispered.

I squeezed her hand.
"Always."
