Outrage in Aba: Widow Assaulted and Arrested Amid Property Dispute
A shocking incident in Aba, Abia State, has sparked public outrage after a widow was allegedly assaulted and subsequently arrested over a property dispute.
The incident occurred near the BYC office along Cameroun Road, where Austin Obinna Ejikeme, a native of Olokoro, Umuahia South Local Government Area, reportedly attacked Mrs. Esther Udeh, a resident of 203 Ehi Road, Aba.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that Ejikeme physically assaulted Mrs. Udeh with a cane, inflicting injuries and damaging her goods. Alarmed by the assault, bystanders intervened and notified police officers stationed at Cameroun Barracks, leading to Ejikeme’s arrest.
However, he was later released on bail after being charged with assault occasioning harm, malicious damage, and threatening violence.
The situation escalated when, shortly after his release, Ejikeme allegedly leveraged his influence to have Mrs. Udeh arrested by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia.
Sources claim that Ejikeme financially induced officers to detain the widow, a move widely seen as an attempt to intimidate and silence her.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the conflict stems from a property dispute.
The building where Mrs. Udeh operates her business is reportedly owned by Ejikeme’s sister, who inherited it through their late parents’ will. Ejikeme and his male siblings are said to be contesting the will in defiance of Abia State inheritance laws, which recognize the rights of female children to inherit family property. Mrs. Udeh is confirmed to be a lawful tenant of Ejikeme’s sister.
This incident has drawn widespread condemnation from community members and advocacy groups. Many are calling on the Abia State Government, especially the First Lady, to ensure the immediate release of Mrs. Udeh and to hold Ejikeme accountable for his alleged actions.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reiterated that he is not an Igbo man, emphasizing his identity as an Ikwerre man.
Wike made this declaration during a media chat in Abuja while addressing the emergence of John Azuta Mbata as the new President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Commenting on Mbata’s election and his stance on Igbo identity, Wike stated “I’m an Ikwerre man, not an Igbo man. I don’t have a problem with Igbo people. Azuta Mbata has the right to associate with anybody. I’m an unrepentant Ikwerre man, and I’m not a member of Ohanaeze.
“I will never, for anything, deny my identity just to be recognised.”

VIDEO: John Mahama calls Tinubu Ghanaian president during inaugural speech
John Mahama was sworn in as the new President of Ghana on Tuesday during a ceremony held at Independence Square in Accra, the nation’s capital, where he gaffed calling Nigeria’s president, Bolanle Tinubu, the president of Ghana.
The event was attended by several world leaders, including Tinubu.
During his inaugural address, Mahama made a notable error while acknowledging dignitaries present. Referring to President Tinubu, he mistakenly called him the “honourable president of the Federal Republic of Ghana.”
Mahama succeeds Nana Akufo-Addo, who took over from him in 2017. This marks Mahama’s return to the presidency after seven years, following his victory in Ghana’s December elections. Before his swearing-in, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang made history as the first female vice president of Ghana.
The oath of office was administered by the Chief Justice of Ghana, Gertrude Torkornoo, in a ceremony that celebrated Ghana’s democratic transition.
Mahama and Opoku-Agyemang, both candidates of the National Democratic Congress, won the election with Mahama securing 50 per cent of the votes. He polled 6.3 million votes, defeating his closest rival, Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party, by a margin of 1.7 million votes.
Acknowledging his defeat, Bawumia quickly conceded and addressed the nation, saying, “The people of Ghana have spoken, the people have voted for change at this time, and we respect it with all humility.”
On his X account, Mahama confirmed receiving a congratulatory phone call from Bawumia.
In his return to office, Mahama is tasked with reviving Ghana’s struggling economy, a key promise of his campaign. This marks a new chapter for the former president, who previously governed the country between 2012 and 2016.
