π΄GOLF TIP: Why A 10 Finger Grip Is Better Than Nine! πβ£β£
β£β£
Sometimes we keep doing something because βthatβs the way we have always done itβ...β£β£
β£β£
It may be wiser to stop and ask: βBut does that make it the most effective way?β ποΈβ£β£
β£β£
Since 1996 I have been running tests on the use of various grips including holding the club in the baseball style (10-finger).β£β£
β£β£
The conclusion has been that this grip is more effective than the overlapping or interlocking holds traditionally coached.β£β£
β£β£
Part of the theory for these two traditional grips has been making the two hands work as one unit...β£β£
β£β£
But it is my opinion that simply joining the hands in either of these ways does not give that effect...β£β£
β£β£
As demonstrated by several top players whose hands clearly separate at impact and just beyond...β£β£
β£β£
With some, you can see this separation even at the top of their swing.β£β£
β£β£
Taking a part of your right or lower hand off the golf club makes no sense to me.β£β£
β£β£
In most cases it is the dominant and strong hand for the golfer: they would be better off using it effectively so that it can add power and control to the shot...β£β£
β£β£
Rather than weakening its power by taking part of it off the grip in overlapping or interlocking.β£β£
β£β£
To me, this is using a grip to solve a problem rather than employing what could be the more effective grip and learning how to use it effectively.β£β£
β£β£
Since 1996, both at the Cranfield Golf Academy and individually, we have not coached any beginner any other grip than the baseball gripβ¦β£β£
β£β£
and neither have we advised them at any stage to change from that.β£β£
β£β£
I have also changed several experienced players of varying standards from their normal grip to a baseball grip.β£β£
β£β£
All have changed with notable success πβ£β£
