[KiniNews] Amid criticism for declaring no further action (NFA) on 47 corruption charges involving Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar today stressed that he did not come to the decision lightly.

Speaking to reporters after attending the Opening of the Legal Year 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Dusuki compared the Attorney-General’s Chambers’ decision in Zahid’s case with other cases convicted by a lower court but were later reviewed on appeal.

Dusuki reiterated that while the High Court had ruled for Zahid to enter his defence, further investigations based on six additional representations found that the case linked to Yayasan Akalbudi has been “diluted”.

Meanwhile, in a separate story, a figure close to Muhyiddin Yassin has suggested that now is the right time to allow PAS to lead Perikatan Nasional.

Muhyiddin’s former senior private secretary, Marzuki Mohamad, said the move should be made in the interest of PN’s stability, given that PAS is the strongest party in the coalition.

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok’s defamation suit against Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh will proceed to trial after mediation efforts failed to result in an amicable settlement.

Lawyer Sankara Nair, representing Kok, said both parties were unable to reach an out-of-court settlement during the mediation session conducted before deputy registrar Suzana Mokhtar at the Malacca Court Mediation Centre today.

“The trial has been fixed for Feb 12 and 13 at the Malacca High Court. We will therefore meet him (Akmal) in court on the scheduled dates,” he told reporters when met outside the mediation centre.

Three Perikatan Nasional Youth chiefs in a meeting with Muhyiddin Yassin today voiced their wings’ views regarding the Bersatu president’s resignation from the PN chairperson post.

In a statement, MIPP Youth chief Justin Prabakaran said that he, along with Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham and Gerakan Youth chief Lee Boon Shian, had proposed that Muhyiddin withdraw his resignation and continue to lead the federal opposition coalition.

“We respect Muhyiddin’s decision to resign as PN chairperson. However, the resignation will certainly have an impact on the face of PN, especially in the upcoming general election.

“To win an election, PN must be led by a figure who can generate unity and secure the support of the majority of Malaysians,” said Justin after a two-hour meeting at Muhyiddin’s home.
