An NGO today came out to defend Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor after the latter was accused of abusing his powers by former Sabah Mineral Management (SMM) Sdn Bhd CEO Jontih Enggihon.

Speaking after lodging a police report on the matter, Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) chairperson Andie Zulkarnain Baharuddin Mahdar said the allegations were slanderous and made in bad faith.

“I know Hajiji personally. Even though I’m not a member of Gabungan Rakyat Sarawak (GRS), there is a lot of difference between the chief minister and other leaders in the state."

Former Sabah Mineral Management (SMM) chief executive officer Jontih Enggihon, who accused Chief Minister Hajiji Noor of abusing his powers, could not hold back tears when he touched on the plight of the people in his state, where hardcore poverty is six times the national rate.

Recounting an incident in 2005 when he was with the Sabah Mineral and Geoscience Department, he said close to 5,000 applications were received for three vacancies.

“This was not even an officer’s position. Sabah is suffering,” he told Malaysiakini in an interview.

The Muzakarah Committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia (MKI) today declared that the teachings, beliefs, and ideology practised by Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) are deviant and stray from Islamic teachings.

Its chairman Nooh Gadut stated that the committee, which convened from Sept 24 to 26, is convinced and satisfied with the arguments and evidence researchers have presented regarding GISBH.

He explained that the teachings propagated by GISBH CEO Nasiruddin Mohd Ali, his followers, or anyone connected to the company, firm, organisation, association, or group associated with it, or anyone else displaying characteristics of deviation, are considered deviant and straying from Islamic teachings.

No approval from venue owner for Teluk Intan rally - Police

Police have advised the public not to participate in a rally scheduled for this Saturday at Dataran Menara Condong, Teluk Intan, as the event has not received permission from the venue owner. Hilir Perak district police chief Ahmad Adnan Basri said the Himpunan Patriotik Rakyat rally did not obtain permission from the landowner, the Teluk Intan Municipal Council (MPTI), as required under Section 11 of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

A whistleblower, who claims to have incriminating videos of Sabah assemblypersons, has released a new recording featuring veteran politician Rubin Balang. The whistleblower clarified to Malaysiakini that the video does not involve bribery, but rather a negotiation regarding a mining project, in which he sought to use a firm under his children’s name after his previous license was revoked. Meanwhile, former finance minister Daim Zainuddin passed away this morning at Assunta Hospital in Petaling Jaya at the age of 86. Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas) mocked government lawmaker V Ganabatirau (Harapan-Klang) for saying his constituency did not have enough allocations due to its size. Fadhli’s sarcasm stems from the longstanding back-and-forth between the federal government and the opposition over allocations for opposition-held constituencies.

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman expressed his sorrow over the passing of Daim Zainuddin after attending to pay his last respects to the late statesman at Bukit Tunku this afternoon. Syed Saddiq described Daim as a mentor who greatly guided him in his political career.

Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad left the late Daim Zainuddin's family residence at 1:23 pm after spending nearly 30 minutes there. He arrived at Daim’s family home in Persiaran Bukit Tunku at 12:49 p.m. Dozens of vehicles carrying political figures and friends also arrived at the residence. Earlier, the vehicle carrying the late Daim’s body arrived at the residence around 11:30 am after departing from Assunta Hospital in Petaling Jaya.

The Dewan Rakyat today observed a minute of silence to pay respects to the late former finance minister, Daim Zainuddin, who passed away this morning. Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) had earlier risen to inform the House of Daim's passing and extended his condolences to the late minister's family.
