Expression Wall: Indulge your sweet tooth as you craft your own ice cream masterpiece! Use our custom spray gun to choose from three delicious flavors and add your favorite toppings. Scan the QR code to download and share your creation on social media!

FABU is very proud of @sherlynn48 's "Drama Queen 月映戲伶", which extends beyond the preservation of cultural heritage and art, but also making it appeal to younger generations. Her creation lets visitors explore a phygital experience, a blend of physical and digital art showcasing Chinese Opera's aesthetics through the lens of new media, creating an interactive environment for visitors to experience and reflect on this cultural gem in the present day. Crossing over the Red Bridge, visitors are welcomed by illuminated "Flower Faces" leading to a modern minimalist tunnel structure inspired by a Chinese Opera Doyenne’s headdress - "Into The Mind of a Doyenne". The tunnel features metallic arches, red threads, gems, mist, and flashing lights. Moving on, it's the "Dancing Sleeves", exemplifies the grace and elegance of Chinese Opera through hand movements and gestures. “It references the movement of water sleeves in Chinese Opera in which fluid movements are not only evocative of water and wind, but also a poetic and ethereal form of expression. The abstract visuals on the long flowing “sleeves” are enhanced by the additional Augmented Reality creation representing the five main roles of Chinese Opera: Sheng (male), Dan (female), Jing (painted face), Mo (older men), Chou (clown),” said Sher Lynn. FabU had the privilege of bringing the Pay Fong Middle School team’s dream to life, transforming their visionary ideas into 4 remarkable installations. Additionally, we provided comprehensive technical consultancy throughout their discussion stage, ensuring every detail was meticulously planned and executed. - Pay Fong Origin (培风逍遥游）:Featuring 2 projectors on a curved screen and 1 projector on flooring, creating an immersive storytelling experience. - Pay Fong Yellow Flamboyant Tree (黄花树下）: A stunning projection using 1 projector to bring the iconic tree to life. It also serves multifunctional for screenings and presentations - Pay Fong Library Windows View (四合院）: Utilizing 2 projectors to recreate teh serene view from the library windows. These installations required skills in projector mounting, calibration, content mapping, masking unwanted areas, and blending overlapping projections to ensure a seamless and visually stunning display. FABU contribution focused on the technical setup and software calibration for the projectors. The creative content was impressively provided by the school, showcasing their exceptional ability to produce high-quality, and engaging materials. - Pay Fong Alumni Archive Application: We developed an application capable of reading CSV files, archiving over 100 years of names and data (1913-2023). This allows students, alumni, teachers, and staff to search for their names, preserving the rich history of Pay Fong Middle School. What is FAB?

FAB is the acronym for fabrication. It incorporates the meaning of making and but also refers to the fabrication revolution that emerge as the third wave of digital revolution. FAB culture is one of the DIY culture that combines fabrication technologies such as laser cutting, 3D printing and digital design to materialize digital design. Digital fabrication complete the digital revolutions in communications and computation by bringing digital data into our physical world. Digital fabrication allows consumers to become creators, challenges the constraints of mass production, education and economics. FAB combines engineering-oriented techniques with artisan spirit and it encourages the custom fabrication of design and crafts. FAB emphasizes informal, networked, peer-led, and shared learning motivated by fun and self-fulfillment.

What is FABU?

FABU a fabrication cafe based in Sunway Metro. We are the advocater of DIY and maker culture powered by desktop manufacturing and digital fabrication - known as FAB. We provide a community space and a variety of digital fabrication tools such as lasercutter, 3D printers, digital embroidery machine for consumers and makers to come together and experience custom fabrication of arts and craft works. The community is made up of a group of tech and craft enthusiasts that are passionate in making. Our cafe also offers food and fabulous coffee for makers to enjoy while making. We also offer a wide range of workshops to groom makers and we are open for talk events, meetup and business collaboration. We offer workshop that encourage people to learn FAB through doing in hoping that more consumer. Our vision is driven by practical DIY ideas that will empower consumer to fabricate anything at their will.
