Day 3 - The final day of our WPP event was all about Parliamentary Processes (Politics and Administration) - facilitated by Idzuafi Hadi (Reform Malaysia). Participants learned about the inner workings of Parliament, from drafting bills to debating policies, and how to navigate these systems to make their voices heard.

Despite the heavy subject matter, it was an eye-opening session filled with practical knowledge and lively discussions. The camaraderie and determination of the participants left us inspired and hopeful for the future of women’s political representation.

Day 2 of our WPP workshop focused on the Malaysian Electoral System—the backbone of our democracy - and the formation of government. The session was facilitated by Asraf Sharafi (Bersih). Participants explored the nature of the electoral system, how government is formed following an election, and how these affect women's representation in politics.

Through simulations and role-playing, our participants deepened their understanding of the voting process, and got some insights into campaigning - including how to appeal to voters, the need for inclusive policies and the challenges and strategies involved in running for office.

DAY 1 - Our recent WPP workshop kicked off with an empowering session on Human Rights and Gender Equality by Azura Nasron (SUARAM). Participants learnt about principles such as equality, human rights, feminism, intersectionality and justice.

The session allowed participants to explore and debate how human rights and gender equality connect to political participation and why it’s crucial to champion these rights for inclusive governance.

Last Saturday, we had the privilege of joining PKR to train their women leaders on tackling the persistent issue of low women representation in politics. From the state to the national level—and within their own party—these remarkable leaders brainstormed actionable solutions to break barriers and pave the way for greater inclusion.

As part of our Projek 30% campaign, aimed at achieving at least 30% women candidates at all levels by GE16, this session marked a powerful step forward.

A key moment was the announcement by YB Fadhlina Sidek, Head of Wanita Keadilan and Malaysia’s Education Minister, of the Tabung 30WReps—a dedicated fund to support PKR’s women candidates, starting with the Sabah elections next year.

A special thanks to Martabat PJ for helping us facilitate this event and to Prof Madya Dr Ummu Atiyah Ahmad Zakuan for her session on why women's representation matters.
