Elegant Sedan with R Go Juice.

The Arteon was originally launched as a “premium Passat” but with the same powerplant🤷‍♂️
This R-Line however is the one we actually want. The engine is cranked up to 280PS and 350Nm of torque, sound familiar? Power is now sent to all 4 wheels via VWs 4Motion all-wheel-drive system allowing the premium saloon car to do the century spring in 5.6 seconds.

Price? RM248,692.67.

There’s a couple of aesthetics tweaks such as the front grill that now links the LED light bar to the DRLs along with new taillights. Inside, we’ve lost the analogue clock, new touch buttons for the climate control, redesigned seats and a steering wheel.

Safety games is also up with lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, brake assist, and post collision braking. No autonomous emergency braking though if you intend to drive it like a R, probably best without it.

Who’s up for wildly modified and exhaust popping Arteon’s on the street?

Price update on the new "face" of BMW.

BMW Malaysia have revised the prices on the new M models as well as the G22 4 series as well.
G22 430i M Sport : RM390,033
G80 M3 Competition : RM639,664
G82 M4 Competition : RM659,357

Prices are down by nearly RM25k so Whoop-De-Doo! Also note that these prices are for the 2-year Warranty packages. If you want the full 5 year deal, they’re back up to their original prices.

No other changes are seen and nor do we have any sighting of the xDrive M3 and M4 as of yet. The G80 M3 and G82 M4 definitely caused a stir with its looks but seems like it's all forgotten now. Proof that performance does cast a shadow over aesthetics.

Drop Top 1000bhp Italian.

Once you own a 1000bhp supercar, its hard to get trumped at the valet parking. Unless someone rolls up in the RM2,088,000 Ferrari SF90 Spider. Even better, rolling in while putting the roof up.

Yes, the roofless version of Ferrari’s most powerful plug-in hybrid has landed in Naza Italia costing about RM200k MORE than its hardtop twin. The spider features a subtle metal folding roof that tucks away delicately behind the seats but not in a way where it obstructs view of the maddeningly carbon clad engine bay.

The roof takes 14 seconds to be tucked away (or on) and can be operated at up to speeds of 45km/h. There are a couple of minute dimensional changes to make the spider work such as reprofiled A-pillars, 20mm lower roof (watch the ‘fro), and a tad more curved windscreen.

Performance remains identical though the interior has been optimised to reduce turbulence and wind noise. A centre console has been modified to channel air away from your head and shoulders and into a second element on the upper part of the tunnel. For the pleasure of exhaust note enthusiasts, the SF90 Spider has 1 extra resonator to increase sound flow into the cockpit. Who does that!!

If you’re spending over RM2mil (before options and taxes) on a car, you might as well get the spider.

The MINI I Would.

Dubbed the Cooper SE, this all electric MINI will cost you a neat RM213,461. Opt for the 4-year warranty and unlimited-mileage extended warranty with free service package and that’s up to RM217,471. Either way you still have a 9 year/100,000km battery warranty.

First off, the Cooper SE looks so good. It is a welcoming sight to have an electric car on the market that isn’t trying too hard to stand out or shout “HEY LOOK IM ELECTRIC”.

A 28.9kWh lithium ion battery sits in place of Cooper SE siblings B48. Its good for 184PS and 270Nm of torque and a maximum range of 232km between charges. Takes just 2 and a half hours on a 11kW AC power source or just 36 minutes from 10 to 80% with a DC fast charging CCS socket. Seems pretty capable for the daily commute around KL if i'm honest.

Visually it looks a teensy bit toned down compared to its forced induced siblings but in no ways sedated. Aside from the wheels and the lack of an exhaust pipe, you wouldn’t really be able to tell the difference.

Inside it’s the same as the LCI Cooper S except for faux leather seats. The 8.8inch infotainment unit is touchscreen and has a built-in function that displays the most efficient route to your destination along with nearest charging stations. Safety and driving assistance kit matches that of the LCI Cooper range.

So go on and pick your color. British Racing Green, White Silver & Midnight Black, all of which have well contrasting roof and side mirror cap colors.

Fresh MINI Cooper Buffet Served.

Let’s welcome the facelifted MINI Cooper fleet to our humble doorsteps.

MINI Cooper S 3 Door: RM253,319
MINI Cooper S 5 Door: RM261,009
MINI Cooper S Convertible: RM274,360

Despite being facelift models, the Cooper S range has received quite extensive changes. Dark headlamp insides, larger grille upfront, vents on the sides of the front bumper, subtle LED strip indicators, and a new rear bumper design accented with black exhaust tailpipes.

Changes inside are even more significant with a larger 8.8” infotainment unit, a 5” digital instrument panel, a redesigned steering wheel with sleeker buttons (which I prefer), and tweaked air vents.

Driver aids include, the Driving Assistant, high beam assist, city braking function with pedestrian warning, parking assist, and lane departure warning.

Performance is the only thing untouched. 192hp and 280Nm of torque from a B48 2.0L turbo engine paired with a seven speed dual clutch transmission in all 3 variants. The 3 door is technically the fastest with a 0-100kmh time of 6.7 seconds but the 5 door is only 0.1of a second behind and the Convertible 0.4 of a second.

I think the facelift is an improvement, especially in this White Silver.

BMW 5er Facelift Out - M Sport variants of 530e & 530i

The Existing business athlete gets refreshed! LCI models of the 530i M-Sport and 530e M-Sport were both launched recently with handsome price tags.
530e M-Sport: RM317,534
530i M-Sport: RM368,122

Difference from the outgoing model? Visually, you’ll notice the new L-shaped headlamps (Laserlights for the 530i) and very sexy 3D design taillights. Since they are the M-Sport variants, the front bumper has larger intakes, the rear bumper has the traditional BMW contrasting lower section and M340i-esque trapezoid exhaust tailpipes.

Size does matter apparently, since you now get a 12.3inch infotainment unit, 2inches larger than before. Seats are slightly different but that's about it. Don’t expect to be able to differentiate the LCi and pre-LCI at first glance.

Performance on the 530i is at 252ps and 350Nm of torque coming from a B48 2.0L turbo engine sent to an 8-speed auto and the rear wheels. The 530e gets BMW's new plug-in hybrid system identical to that in the G20 330e. Combined output of 252ps and 420Nm with an additional 41ps available with XtraBoost.

What else can I say? The 5 series is a safe choice for someone looking for an executive saloon with a touch of performance. It's got all the latest safety kit on board, looks the part and I’m pretty sure is fast enough to knock on the door of the 250km/h top speed limiter.

Headsup, the prices will be going up a tad by the end of June when the SST exemption ends.

Hot Cake Harrier

Despite coming in at an atmospheric RM249,706.50, the 2021 Toyota Harrier has ALREADY met its sales target for the year. WITHIN A WEEK OF GOING ON SALE…..

Why is this shocking? Well, at a glance, the new Harrier’s specs don't entirely match up to its asking price. For RM250k, you could get away with a pretty decent luxury German C-segment sedan. So what is it that you’re paying for?

The Harrier makes do with a simple 2.0L 173PS 203Nm naturally aspirated engine mated to a CVT transmission that drives the front wheels. Built on the Toyota New Global Architecture platform, the Harrier is said to have an admirable performance personality while retaining the desired Toyota comfort level. Working on the NVH levels and interior luxury, Toyota has spent a great deal to make the Harrier feel like a premium urban SUV.

By far one of the dopest feature on the Harrier is the panoramic sunroof that can be dimmer or darkened at a touch. It looks very “New-York-bacholer-pad”. Rest of the interior is as up-to-date as Toyota can do. Leather seats, cameras all round feeding to the rear view mirror, head up display, wireless charging pad, kick sensor boot, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay & AndroidAuto.

The exterior certainly looks the part. Refined styling around the rear end puts it a touch above the mainstream SUVs of today. Bi-LED headlights up front, sexier DRLs, 18” wheels and proper twin exhaust pipes out back. No fake rear bumper pieces here.

After considering these things and that it's a CBU only option, the price does make more sense. The biggest take away here is, Toyota fanboys have some serious brand loyalty.

Recharged Volvo S90 - Literally.

Volvo has been on a winning streak imo and with the drop of the facelifted S90 Recharge T8 last week, their fleet is looking mighty impressive. Both T5 and Recharge T8 received the facelift, though the T5 will only be available June 2021 onwards. The Recharge T8 is available now at RM339,315 while the T5 will be at RM328,888.

Performance:
S90 Recharge T8 puts out 407hp and 640Nm of torque with the help of the Drive-E powertrain. 315hp and 400Nm via the turbocharged & supercharged engine while the rest is contributed by the rear mounted electric motor, 11.6kWh now compared to 10.4kWh before. Power hits the road through an 8-speed auto and an eAWD system created by this Drive-E configuration.

The T5 uses a simpler 2.0L Turbocharged 4-pot with 251hp and 350Nm of torque. Runs the same 8 speed auto, enough to get it up top 100kmh in 6.8 seconds. The Recharge T8 takes a mere 4.9 seconds. Both cars are limited to 180kmh though.

Handling isn't left out either. The T5 comes with Volvo’s Dynamic Chassis while the T8 gets Active Chassis. The latter uses adaptive dampers on all four corners to perfect the handling while running air bags at the rear.

Visuals:
You’d be hard pressed to differentiate the facelift and pre-facelift but they are present. Front bumper, rear full-LED tail lights, sequential turn signals and chrome bits. Easier way to differentiate the variants would be by their wheel designs. Both come in 19” wheels but differ in design.

Inside, the Inscription Plus variant gets head up display, a chinsier gear k**b, nappa leather, 360-degree camera and a ass whooping 19-speaker Bowers WIlkins sound system. Nice. The T5 Momentum receives a 10-speaker system though. Both get the same 12.3-inch cluster and 9” infotainment unit with both Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto.

Safety:
Of course, safety is going to be a highlight with both cars packing the City Safety suite. All forms of collision avoidance systems and assists can take over the steering and brakes to keep you AND pedestrians safe. Level 2 autonomous driving is available with Pilot Assist on both cars while the Inscription Plus gets parallel and perpendicular Park Assist.

The flood of SUVs in the market gets another wave with the Toyota Corolla Cross.

Yes it is pretty much a jacked up CBU version of the Toyota Corolla. The CKD will start production mid 2021. The SUV shares plenty with its sedan twin but it's tall ride height, 440L booth and, in my opinion, good looks, are certainly attractive features. 10 points to Toyota there for filling the gap in their line up. (Where the CHR couldn't).

Two variants are available for us, the 1.8G at RM124,000 and 1.8V at RM134,000. Drivetrain of both vehicles are identical. A 1.8L four cylinder engine with 139ps and 172Nm of torque drives the car through toyota's range popular CVT transmission.

The variants are differentiated by a couple of exterior tweaks such as the rims, headlights, DRLs and taillights. Inside they are nearly identical with the chief difference being Toyota Safety Sense reserved for the 1.8V. That's the one with the cool autonomous everything. Creature comforts to highlight would be the 9" infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto and a PowerBoot with kick sensor to make loading easier.

The 1.8G makes do with BLIS, rear cross-traffic alert, passive cruise control and a 360-degree surround view camera. Both variants get a front-facing dashcam as standard, too.

The Corolla Cross is priced rather competitively with the HRV. Given its spec sheet, all I can say is "Let Them Fight".
