Premier Celebrates Record-Breaking Ethnic Wear Gathering in Kuching
KUCHING, 19 May – Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, attended a momentous event at the Kuching Waterfront, marking an attempt to enter The Malaysia Book of Records for the biggest gathering of people in ethnic wear performing choreographed dancing.
The event saw a vibrant display of cultural unity and celebration, reinforcing the rich diversity that Sarawak is known for.
In his address, the Premier commended the event, highlighting its significance in fostering mutual respect and understanding among the diverse ethnic communities.
"This event creates a mutual respect and understanding among us," he stated. We need a world of peace, we need an environment where everybody can play their role and contribute to the betterment of society."
Kuching has been internationally recognized for its cleanliness, ranking as the 11th cleanest city in the world.
"We are not only a city of unity but also the cleanest. That is why the Sarawak government is aggressively promoting the green economy," the Premier emphasized.
Abang Johari also shared insights from his recent trip to Bangkok, where he participated in the Future Energy Asia conference organized by the government of Thailand.
He discussed collaborative efforts to combat climate change, highlighting Sarawak's initiatives in green energy.
"The Sarawak government has embarked on what we call green energy, and we are going to establish our public transports in Kuching using fuel cell hydrogen to power our public transports, perhaps the first in this part of the world. It will benefit in the long term to the people and the environment itself," he announced.
The event at the Kuching Waterfront not only aimed to set a new national record but also served as a testament to Sarawak's commitment to cultural preservation, environmental sustainability, and technological innovation.
Also present were, Minister For Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Mayor of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Tuan Haji Hilmy Haji Othman, Governor of Rotary International District 3310 Dr. John Chan, Rotary International President Representative Dr. Mildred Vitangcol and Chairman of AFFIN Islamic Bank Berhad Musa Abdul Malik.
