The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar this morning ahead of Malaysia’s advance Q4 2025 GDP estimate. At 8am, it traded stronger at 4.0515/0600 versus the dollar, with economists expecting GDP growth of around 5.4 per cent.

The local currency recovered after weakening previously on stronger US jobless claims data. At the opening, the ringgit was firmer against major currencies like the yen, euro and pound, while trading mixed against ASEAN currencies, gaining against the Singapore dollar and Thai baht, but mostly unchanged versus the Philippine peso and Indonesian rupiah.

The temporary restriction on Grok on X will only be lifted once issues related to harmful content are fully resolved, according to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. The move follows action by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, citing misuse of the AI to generate explicit content and non-consensual manipulated images, despite regulatory notices issued to X Corp and xAI LLC.

The Malaysia government says it remains committed to working collaboratively with social media platforms to strengthen online safety without compromising freedom of expression. This includes guidance from the Online Safety Committee, involving multiple stakeholders such as the Children’s Commissioner’s Office and the Royal Malaysia Police.
