Scubazoo first visited Malapascua Island back in 2001 with only a few resorts present on the island, now 23 years later the island looks very different but the threshers have also changed their behaviour. No longer in large numbers at Monad Shoal they have moved to Kimud Shoal, the reef more shallow and the sharks staying for longer periods of the day. This video was filmed over a couple of days with the ever efficient Evolution Beach & Dive Resort during May.
With their long, whip-like tails and sleek bodies, thresher sharks are the epitome of elegance in the ocean. These graceful predators are renowned for their distinctive hunting method of using their tails to stun and capture prey. From their striking appearance to their unparalleled hunting skills, thresher sharks are a true spectacle in the deep blue sea.

This film was shot for the Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan 2024 Cultural, Agrotourism, & Natural (C.A.N) video competition featuring the talented Unduk Ngadau Kinabatangan 2024, Magdlena Dinoh.

Scubazoo had a very successful return to Kei this year, here is a sample of the footage taken. Most of the encounters were very chilled and provided you give them a little space they will accept you diving down and swimming alongside. Young Proboscis monkeys constantly play fight with each other and as they grow older the fighting becomes more serious. Once they become a threat to the dominant male they are usually chased out of the group and join the bachelor group.

The largest fish in the sea, whale sharks are filter feeders and can neither bite nor chew. Although its mouth can stretch to four feet wide, a whale shark’s teeth are so tiny that they can only eat small shrimp, fish and plankton by using their gill rakers as a suction filter.
