Agents4Change - I Tambang 🌿✨

Throwback to one of our most meaningful projects at Siung Films! In I Tambang, we share the touching story of a little girl named Sunshine, who dreams of turning into a deer. After waking up, she discovers her world is on fire, and with the deer's help, she embarks on a journey to save her village. Told in Kadazan, one of Sabah's indigenous languages, this tale is about walking in someone else’s shoes, seeing the world from their perspective, and embracing the interconnectedness of all things. It’s a story of courage, standing up for what you believe in, and the deep respect for nature that is part of the Kadazan worldview. 🌏💚

We are temporarily pausing the collection of glass bottles at 3 of our green hub (Tame, Madsiang & Rasa Ria) as we are busy packing for our move to a new location! In the meantime, please keep your glass bottles — just clean them, pack them well and keep them safe.

Once we’re settled into our new space, our glass bottle recycling centre will reopen and we’d love to have you drop them off again. Stay tuned, and thank you for your support ❗️

✨Throwback to 2021: The Health Detective – Filming a TV Magazine Amid Many Lockdowns!✨

Despite the challenges of multiple lockdowns, we pushed through and completed "The Health Detective", a 13-episode lifestyle TV magazine for RTM, directed by Jo Luping. ✨🙌

🌿 Filmed and edited remotely during the MCO, this project showed us the power of creativity and teamwork!💪

Hazli Bojili, a certified health and fitness instructor, showed how the Kadazan community in Penampang, Sabah lived well into their 90s. He dove deep into the traditional health practices that had been passed down through generations. Together with his mom, Puan Norhanida, and his sister, Nurul Aniza, Hazli uncovered the health benefits of the "Hindung" or eel. You could even catch Hazli getting his hands dirty and catching one! ✨

Wondering what to do with those Mandarin orange peels? Melissa and Datuk Susan Wong have introduced us to Chen Pi—tangerine peel, a hidden gem in traditional Chinese medicine and cuisine. Passed down through generations, we learned the intricate process of drying and ageing the peel and its many health benefits. A true treasure from the past!✨

Plus, Hazli met Ganesh, a qualified homeopath in Kota Kinabalu, who revealed the powerful health benefits of turmeric a humble spice used for generations in Sabah’s ethnic communities. 🌿

Through Sabah’s health secrets and cultural wisdom, we learned from the past to inspire healthier living for future generations and the lessons we uncovered then shaped our well-being for future to come! 🎥

On Tuesday, we spent the day at Kivatu Nature Farm filming an insightful interview on Ritual Plants. It was a fascinating journey into the intergenerational transfer of knowledge with Odu Rosina Sogondu and her daughter Rita Lasimbang, showcasing how traditional wisdom is passed down through the generations. 🌿✨

We also enjoyed interviewing Jenifer Lasimbang alongside Cassandra Jane Albanus and Anne Lasimbang, diving deep into their shared connection with nature and sustainable practices.

We’re excited to share more about the wisdom and practices surrounding these incredible plants and how they contribute to a sustainable future. Stay tuned for the full feature! 🌱🌍

✨ Throwback to 2020 : Local Heroes ✨

In 2020, we had the honour of spotlighting incredible individuals who made a real impact in their communities. From the heart of Telupid to the kitchens of Sabah, these heroes have inspired us up to this today! 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️

🐘 Known as The Elephant Whisperer, Koro hailed from Telupid, a town in Sabah's interior region. His love for the wild led him to where he was back then. Koro had been leading a group of citizen scientists as they worked on the Elephant Harmony Project, striving to create a better understanding of elephants in our communities.

🍴 Audrey Koh invited us into her kitchen, where she infused Sabahan flavours into Italian Florentines. At the same time, she empowered Sabahan Borneo’s Paralympic archers through her social enterprise. Those moments truly felt like home, filled with warmth and purpose.

👗 Mary Jim shared her powerful journey of overcoming hardship and building a business in Kota Kinabalu, all while preserving her roots in kampung fashion. Her dedication to uplifting rural communities was inspiring and left a lasting impact.

These Local Heroes are a testament to resilience, creativity, and the power of community—values that still guide us today and will continue to shape our future. 🌟 As we look back, let’s also look forward, inspired by their legacy and driven to make an even bigger impact in the years ahead.
