😱Empty studio how to craft great masterpiece ?

Most of the photographers can handle outdoor portraits photography well because there are many elements ,
lightings and great background to blend with the subject.

Which makes outdoor photography not as tedious as studio photography. 🔥🔥

Back in studio , basically you are surrounded with empty white walls and strobe , to ensure you get great outcome there are a few steps you can refer.



📌Always make sure you prepare mood-board to know what concept to shoot and what props to prepare. Most important to let your client able to visualize the outcome of the shoot.

📌Always practice to do a trial run before the actual shoot , especially lighting try out to avoid slowing down the process on the actual shoot.

📌Use different modifier , what i mean different not just using standard softboxes. For example beauty dish , zoom reflector , or projection reflector to get different outcome not just soft lighting which is boring at times.

📌Use color gel on the lights can be also spice up the overall shots.

📌Create shadow in your shots with different elements like gobo , leaves , fake windows to get greater texture.

📌Always start with 1 single light instead of multiple , as you can monitor the light ratio and power.

Last but not least this shot was create with 1 single light source from PROJECTOR with black and white square texture, shot direct to the couple to create a pixeled look for the mood.

How to set up a perfect heart warming in wedding

💡

1.Try to shoot from a distance and not to interrupt the private moment as may spoil the mood of the couple

2.Expression is the key , composition comes in second. With the right composition and fail to capture the real moment is totally meaningless for this moment. But if you can manage both well at the same time would be awesome 😎

3.Try to propose a location with nice lighting, never shoot with flash, it will turn the scene into media event coverage.

4.Always practice to cover with minimum 2 photographers inorder to cover both bride and groom expression in different angle.

5. Try to shoot with 2 camera body and longer focal length because you do not want to go super near to the couple. For me I practice to shoot with my 70-200 F2.8L and 24 1.4L. 📷

6. Try to avoid capturing your assistant in the frame , can always try to shoot with a lower angle.

7.Make sure the location is quite, sometimes we do recording of the vow and it helps to get cleaner sounds.

8.If you missed a certain moment do not ask the couple to stop and redo. Can always request to do a post shot after the whole process is done.

9.Sometimes you get shy couple (normal for asian ) , which they will just read the vow silently which doesn't make too much to the emotion. Do remind them up front to read the vow to each other in the face, you will get surprise moment ( tearing or giggling ) what ever it is real moments counts rite 😁

10. This is not religious ceremony , and I highly recommend couple to do because you will have more memories captured in your big day. Why not rite ?

11. Last but not least try to switch to silence shutter during the shoot, this part I failed cause I shot with 🥲 . Videographer hates me because I always ruin their recording.

How to get rid of nasty lighting during events ?

This is the most frequent question I get over the years , and I decided to do a posting to answer this once and for all 😏

Usually in events we shoot in minimum two photographers and 1 assistant, when it comes to group photos or toasting session I will want to ensure I have proper lighting on my subject to cut down the headache during my post.

I never use onboard flashes because it's heavy , and limited angle for my lighting direction. My assistant work with my closely to ensure in what ever angle I'm shooting I get proper lighting. No matter what focal length I'm shooting I can still remotely trigger my flash coming from different direction.

Inorder to soften the light from flash I mount on with Onsmo Lighting ezlock 65cm softbox, it's easy to setup and most important light weight for my assistant to carry around.

For indoor events inorder to balance the ambient lighting with my light , I'm shooting at slightly slowly shutter speed 1/80 , F2.0 iso 1000 with my flash power at 1/64 shooting through the softbox and the result I get is soft and flattering.

I always believe do it right at first , than do it in post !
Rather to have 100 quality images than having 1000 none quality image.

Sharing one of the recent wedding day portfolio super gorgeous bride & Yin Qi. ( Bridal party & preparation )

For my previous practice I shoot with 2 bodies + 2 prime lens which was 501.2 + 241.4 because of the quality of prime lenses, this round we made slight changes.

I shot the entire wedding with just Canon Malaysia R5 + RF2870 F2 lens
Very reliable and responsive lens when it comes to low light and moving subjects. Most important is the large aperture F2 allow me to achieve great depth of field and creamy bokeh where previously unable to achieve in my 24-70 f2.8.

Well distortion control and great contras with amazing color tone when shooting under backlit situation.

In the other words , with this combination I have more time to concentrate in my composition without worrying changing lenses for my shoot and most important thing no more backache 😏

Spent a day out to photograph without bringing any professional gear to try out the new , with the latest adjustable portraits mode which allowing user to change the size of the bokeh light spot fulfill the desire needs.

I was blown away with the result as the result was previously only achievable with large aperture lenses, now you can get it with a smart phone. Kudos to OPPO AI algorithm , makes complex portraits super easy accessible for user.

Great experience using the all new OPPO to perform a shoot during the grand launch event yesterday with gorgeous artist Amelia Henderson

She is not just stunning but super down to earth and easy to work with. With the all new bokeh flare portraits mode on Oppo Reno 7 5G I can easily separate out the subject from the background and achieve super dreamy bokeh in the background with just a simple click.

I believe with this smartphone everyone can achieve dream DSLR-like bokeh effect of portraits without require professional skill.
