How divers empty their mask 🤿
Mask skills, the Achilles heel of new divers 🥹
Emptying a mask is way easier than you think. Gas flows upwards so you don’t even need to move your head or look up or do anything else than exhaling through your nose.
This works if you’re vertical, horizontal, sideways, try it!

I fell in love with caves 🩶
But it wasn’t love at first dive. It took decades for me to appreciate them.
Listen to us on @offgassingscubapodcast discussing how I grew up near the water and how I came back home after years of looking for what makes my heart beat, and it had been close to me all along!
Episode 1/2 of my interview is in the link in my bio 🔗

You need to know this about the XDeep wing ‼️
This happens because of an adjustment issue.
This video explains something very simple about the XDeep wing:
1. It is made to have tension on the wing and not on the inside lumbar plate.
2. When the tension is on the lumbar plate (including when bungee fixes and hacks happen) the dump valve sits in a vertical position, making it difficult to vent gas without breaking trim.
3. The wing is made to use a tight crotch strap that ideally comes about 4 fingers below the belly button when wearing it. If you do not fasten the crotch strap, that might be another reason why the wing floats up.
If this video was helpful give it a like, share with someone who suffers from turtle floaty wing and let me know if you have questions.
I have helped divers remotely through online consultations and advice, improving immediately their kits and trim. If you feel I can help you too, get in touch, subscribe (on my IG profile) or leave comments in the comments 😜

Surface checks in a mixed team 👽🤖
@viviane.mona asked if I could do a video of the checks with a mixed team on the @kissrebreathers #sidewinder CCR.
This is my Gas Flow Check with Matt, who is in Open Circuit Sidemount configuration.
While some of the life support system is different, I keep the same sequence checking Left Post first, and Right Post second.
Left-Right checks allow me to keep the same order in all Sidemount configurations be it OC or CC. The reason why it’s convenient to do Left then Right on CCR is because the left post doesn’t require wearing the loop so my loop is off until I move on to Right post, then my loop stays on for the dive. It makes sense to me but this is a personal preference.
When I teach sidemount I teach Left/Right for most things such as assembling regs, attaching tanks to harness, etc. so i have kept the L/R order for consistency as much as possible.
Left Post
Tank open ✅
Short hose breathes dry ✅
>>>remember to place your face in the water to confirm it is working and breathe it with purpose 3 or 4 times to make sure it’s in working order!
Inflate/deflate/dump valve ✅
>>> I do not use a wing on CCR but if I did this would be checked at the same time
CCR diver checks MAV connected to left post diluent ✅
Right Post
Tank open ✅
Long hose breathes dry ✅
Modified S Drill to confirm Long Hose is free to donate ✅
Check drysuit inflator (and make sure hose is OVER the long hose), and drysuit dump valve ✅
CCR Diver then checks ADV ✅
Do a cell verification (confirm diluent gas)✅
Opens O2 Checks O2 MAV ✅
There are other checks on the surface before descending. This is the full list of checks we do:
1️⃣Bubbles
2️⃣Gas Flow (above)
3️⃣Gear Matching
4️⃣Limits
5️⃣Visualization

Vamos a Yucatan 💀
El año pasado nos embarcamos en un pequeño viaje por el Estado de Yucatán. Buscábamos una aventura, cenotes escondidos y tesoros subacuáticos.
¡Creo que encontramos eso y más!
Estoy lista para volver. ¿Vamos?

Easy or difficult?
What is easier to learn: Buoyancy, Trim or Position?
This is part of our stability training at @protecdivecenters and even if it seems impossible at first, training no fins advances core stability and control to a noticeable degree.
If you have stability training questions get in touch! This applies to all configurations and is not a Sidemount or Tec diving only training.

Don’t try this at home 😜
A year ago training with @thierryamar at @aktunhacenote we did some stability training. Using a weight to increase instability and make core muscles engage even more at maintaining balance.
Patrick and I will film this video again next month, stay tuned!
In the meantime, tell me what flaws you see in the video and what can be improved 👇

Core exercise for in-water stability 💪
Help me share these steps to exercise engaging core for max stability:
1️⃣ On the water surface with wing inflated, take a comfortable position, knees bent up, ankles in 90 degrees (like sitting on a comfortable couch)
2️⃣ Use a 2LB weight to start, hold it with 2 hands near your chest, tense your abs and glutes and make sure fins aren’t moving
3️⃣ Move the weight very slowly with one hand away from your body (weight doesn’t have to be out of the water) and observe which muscles tense and get active to compensate the loss of trim…
4️⃣ If your fins start moving, slow down, keep feet steady and engage abs, test crunching one side, then crunching the other side, and observe which muscles provide you more stability and help you keep upright
5️⃣ Bring the weight slowly back through the chest area, and switch the weight to the other hand, repeat towards the other side and consciously engage glutes and core muscles
6️⃣ Observe what happens when you use the hips, push them forward, push them back, tilt hip to one side and the other… observe what happens when you use the other arm for balance, or when you tilt your head instead of moving fins!
Other tips:
The slower you move, the more time your muscles have to engage, it’s crucial this is not perform at speed…
Start with 2LBS and when you figure it out, use a 3LBS instead…
When you feel like you start tipping, stop moving the weight, bring it back an inch, then purposefully crunch the abs on the opposite side of your body, and observe what happens!
Stability starts on the surface. Buoyancy, Trim and Position, are not concepts that apply only underwater. Practicing this simple exercise will help you refine control and stability which will then improve your buoyancy and trim.

I had 15 min to kill, so I adjusted a Stealth 2. Tec for myself 😎
This is my mini tutorial on how to set up an @xdeep_dive_gear Stealth Tec (it was second hand so I did not assemble from the box, but the harness had all original bungee uncut).
If you have questions after watching, get in touch!
I have been diving the Tec harness / Rec wing since 2019 and fortunately for me the quality is above average so I don’t need to replace it, and I LOVE it.
However, I now find it annoying to have to switch harness between open circuit and CCR, I can dive the same harness for both but there are for sure small adjustments that I make each time I switch that I would just like to be able to leave permanent. That’s why I got a second hand Tec.
The other reason is that I want to dive the Tec to be able to provide more insight and feedback, especially for women who are undecided as to which one to buy.
I will continue to dive the Rec, but this one becomes my little project for the next weeks. Now I have to decide also which is best for the @kissrebreathers #Sidewinder, and how the Tec changes the streamlining of the cans with a small counterlung vs big counterlung. If I ask this question to other people I’ll get their opinion, if I wear it myself and come to an answer then I get the experience first hand. And that’s why I have also dived other brand harnesses and I’m able to adjust them and make recommendations to my students.
Which is your preferred harness? And why?
