U.S.A. Politics Today – Name Calling, Narcissism and Projection By Alice Donenfeld-Vernoux
There has been name calling in politics since the days of the Roman Empire and probably beyond. Roman politicians ruthlessly insulted each other with threats, name calling, and lies similar to what appears on social media today. In the USA, Harry Truman called the GOP “a bunch of snolly-gusters” (unprincipled but shrewd), an opponent of Pres. McKinley said he had “the backbone of a Chocolate éclair.” Famous labor leader John L. Lewis called Roosevelt’s first VP a “labor-baiting, poker-playing, whisky-drinking, evil old man.” Name-calling has been used to push propaganda, define, denigrate, oppose, excoriate, scapegoat, or enhance differing sectors of population: geographical, religious, cultural or physiological. It has been used for mass murder, to promote fear and has eventually led to genocide like the Trail of Tears, the Tulsa Race Riot, and the Holocaust. With the proliferation of today’s Social Media, name calling has been adopted by Donald Trump as a way of belittling his opponents, and has extended to television stations, the Democratic party and government individuals, even those within his own party. Trump has made a side show out of his use of nicknames, and his followers lap it up at every rally. They wait for designations like “Basement” or “Beijing Biden”, “Sleepy”, “Crooked”, or “Slow Joe”, “Sloppy Chris Christie”, “Crazy” or “Crooked Hillary”, “Leakin’” or “Lyin’ James Comey”, “Lyin’ Ted Cruz”, “Birdbrain Nikky Haley” and “Ditzy DeVos.” He moved on to “Broken Old Cow” for Mitch McConnell, “Governor Newscum”, “Evita” for Alexandra Ocasio Cortez, “Deranged” Jack Smith, “Ron DeSanctimonious” and “Nervous Nancy” Pelosi. Prisoners of wars, wounded, and dead military are “losers”, “Horseface” is Stormy Daniels, “Losers Project” is The Lincoln Project, “MSDNC” is MSNBC, “Fake News CNN”, the “Failing New York Times”, while he refers to himself as a “Very Stable Genius.” He also refers to Joe Biden as “The worst president in history” and the Biden family as “a criminal family” or a “corrupt family”. Now he is after “Lafin’ Ka Mala” and calling her “Dumb as a box of rocks.” What is interesting about Trump’s penchant for nicknames, is that he suffers from a nervous tic known as Projection. It is the automatic projection of one’s own undesirable feelings, emotions, or acts on others. In other words, projection is attributing one’s own unacceptable urges and actions to others. He can’t help himself, he tells his followers and everyone exactly who he is and what he has in mind to do. Subconsciously, he knows he is corrupt, unhinged, sloppy, sleepy, crooked, lyin’, fake, nervous, a loser, and the worst president in history. All his failures he tries to pin on others. Projection is only a part of Trump’s psychological makeup, according to psychiatric specialists who have studied his behavior. Trump checks every sign of ASPD - Antisocial Personality Disorder - in addition to malignant narcissism, also known as sociopathic narcissism: extreme arrogance and self-centered; disregards feelings or needs of others; manipulating, using or exploiting others for personal gain or pleasure; extreme need for power; takes revenge against critics; fantasizes ways to increase power and dominance; has no conscience, remorse or regret for any hurt/damage to others; takes pleasure in cruelty and enjoys the pain of others; high level of aggression towards others; has paranoia or mistrust of others; obsession with power; everything of any interest is personal to him; uses, abuses and discards others; keeps grudges and seeks revenge; nothing is ever his fault. However, if you believe the experts about Projection, you have a clear picture of what is going on in Trump’s subconscious: he knows he is a lying criminal, corrupt, scum, nervous, dumb as a box of rocks, fake, sleepy, slow, birdbrain, deranged, unhinged, and the worst president in history. Tijuana Greyhound Race Track Closes . by Vivian Marlene Dunbar
On July 14, 2024 the famous Agua Caliente Greyhound racetrack closed its doors for good. This a great victory for animal rights activists who have protested the treatment of racing dogs for decades. The Tijuana Agua Caliente was the only operating dog track in Mexico. Online betting and the rise of gaming casinos have contributed to the closing of all but two US based tracks, both located in West Virginia. Agua Caliente, operated by Tijuana officials, was actually a part of the US racing circuit, and all of its greyhounds came from the United States. Animal rights groups fought long and hard for closure of this and other such dog tracks. According to one major animal protection group, the greyhound industry " treats dogs like machines.". A racing greyhound might begin its career as young as 18 months old, and retire at the age of 4 or 5. A dog may be forced to race 3 or 4 times a week, and, after a few minutes on the track, be confined in a cage for 23 hours a day. There is very little record keeping in the dog racing industry, but greyhound advocates have reported seeing broken bones, untreated wounds, and even female dogs injected with steroids to keep them from going into heat. Often, the fate of the retired greyhound could be equally grim, as these dogs are often sold to " blood banks" where once again they will languish in cages only to be taken out to have their blood drawn. Needless to say, it was a happy day indeed when the news came of Mexico's last and only Greyhound racing track deciding to close for good. This past January, 2024, Agua Caliente owners cut racing days in half, and released ,200 dogs for adoption. Finally, on July 15, 2024, Tijuana’s dog track closed for good, releasing the last 150 dogs for adoption. Waiting with leashes and open arms were the folks from San Diego based Operation Greyhound Rescue. Local San Diego news showed precious moments of the greyhounds being released into the hands of the rescue group. We at Baja News were delighted to discover a wonderful equestrian club for ladies...located in the beautiful Valle de Guadalupe. Here is what the head mistress told us. " I am Marilyn Villavicencio Espinoza, I am 42 years old, a housewife, an equestrian club instructor, a lover of equestrian sports, and consider myself a motivational driver. " Marilyn continues her story, " Since I was very little, I liked horses, when I was young, I belonged to the official skirmish of the charro canvas of Ensenada, Baja California. I left horses for a few years but it was always my dream to continue with what I like. I formed a small group of girls on horseback and started trading them. I looked for sponsors and we went to a presentation at Rancho Malagon here in the Valle de Guadalupe. I ran out of horses, moved to the city, and left my dream to go to work, but my son Sebastian helped encourage me keep my dream alive. and here we are now doing everything possible to make it happen.!.!! My goal is to teach and encourage women to ride! Breath of the Underworld" by Laura LaBrie...

BREATH OF THE UNDERWORLD Imagine your breath on a cold winter’s day, escaping your lips in a warm cloud and rising like whips in the dense winter air. Or imagine the billowing smoke from a cigar, filled with shapes that seem to come alive, almost conscious, moving like the breath of a dragon, swirling in the air and seeping out into the surrounding atmosphere. This is the Aliento del Inframundo, the Breath of the Underworld. It creeps out from deep within the caves where the sacrifices were once made to the old gods and where the rivers of rain are kept. It comes with the falling of darkness over the land of the Maya, rising out from Xibalba, the abode of the underworld gods. I spoke to a local man name Oscar in the Maya ruins of Coba. He told me of things dangerous and vile, things one ought to be afraid of, things will ill intent. “The mal viento comes with the setting of the sun. It is the bad spirit wind that causes fever and vomiting. It can bring on loss of vision and hearing and even madness and death. Its only cure is to gain a powerful cleansing from a local shaman.” This Breath of the Underworld, this mal viento, is not really a spirit nor is it linked to any human or animal. It is the ambience of the place, the atmosphere. It is the conscious elemental force of Nature. It is beyond the thought of any spirit of man. “It is too dangerous to be in the ruins after dark,” Oscar insisted. “We stay inside, in the house, and don’t leave. We close the windows so the mal viento can’t come in the house.” I asked Oscar is this bad spirit wind was everywhere in Mexico after dark, “No, it is here because we live among the ruins so close to the caves and the ancient powers,” he explained to me with a very serious look on his face. The power of nature is not to be overlooked. The underworld is close by in Coba. Caves dot the landscape offering entry to a vast system of water filled tunnels that harbor portals to the nine levels of the Inframundo, the dark Maya path of pain. During the day, if you descend into one of the local caves, you can feel something lurking deep in the shadows just beyond your sight. Sometimes the air in the caves becomes so slight and thin that you must heed the warnings of the gods and leave, or you will not be able to breath. I know. I have personally experienced this. Interesting, isn’t it, that it was lost breath that threatened my wellbeing that sunny afternoon as I explored the caverns. And it is the Breath of the Underworld that has a sense of its self, consciousness if you will, and come rising from the depths when the sun leaves the sky. “If you MUST leave your home after dark,” explained Oscar, a Maya man himself, “you take a piece of a ruda branch and put it in your pocket.” Ruda is a strong-smelling green herb that grows locally. It is used for medicinal teas and for cleansing ceremonies and protecting one’s home from any ill energies. “The strong smell of the ruda will counteract the ill wind.” Oscar was a kind and gentle man and I am thankful for his detailed information and passionate warning. We tend to think of these things as superstitions, but then, we do not live there, among the ruins and on the earth just above the cave rivers. I respect Oscar’s warning. I have spent enough time in the channels that are the entrances to Underworld of the Maya. I have seen some odd things. And so, I listen to the advice. And I stay in the light.

Always… Patsy Cline coming to Baja!

Coming August 15, 16, 17, and 18 is the musical show, Always… Patsy Cline starring Ginevra Altomara as Patsy Cline and Lisa Rath as Louise Seger. Many of you will remember Ginevra as Audrey and Lisa as Mrs. Mushnik in the LMPAC production of Little Shop Of Horrors. They will again be bringing their incredible talents to the stage with this heartfelt celebration of the great Patsy Cline along with a live band. When Louise first heard Patsy’s voice she was hooked. She quickly became her biggest fan. Meeting each other at a show in Houston they quickly became fast friend which continued through out the years. After the tragic death of Patsy, Louise reminisces, through great story telling, about the friendship and love she had for the singer. Based on a true story this musical brings all of Patsy Cline’s greatest hits to the stage for a down home good time. Stay for an outside Barbecue Dinner after the show. THE HARMONY PROJECT is doing just that. Summer 2024 Border Crossing Report.".by Vivian Marlene Dunbar...
As we cruise into summer and a busy travel season , wait times at the San Ysidro border have gotten longer. A big project to expand the Otay Mesa Port of Entry , with hopes of elevating San Ysidro crossing congestion, has just been put on the back burner. In 2020 San Diego Association of Governments, Sandag, announced a project to expand the Otay Mesa East Port of Entry. According to Sandags web page the intention was to " create a new modern land port of entry on the San Diego Baja California region". The announcement to begin the project, with California top transportation officials and local luminaries posing with a shovel at the construction site, made headlines... Promises were made to complete the project by 2024 , but , apparently, that is not going to happen. Sandag CEO Mario Orso was quoted as saying that " they cannot give an exact date". only a maybe for 2028. Mario Orso also recognized that Mexico is " on schedule" with their side of the project. An assortment of difficulties seem to have risen the least of which is not that Sandag is being investigated by the US Dept of Justice for mismanagement of tolls collected on the South Bay 125 toll road. Apparently, an estimated 48,000 drivers were incorrectly charged for tolls , and tolls were billed to the wrong people. This is a big deal since Sandag proposes to pay for the Otay Expansion by installing tolls along SR11. The project could bring in over 1 billion in tolls. Sandag officials have not said much, other than to blame lack of communication with California Border Patrol and the General Services Administration, the Federal Agency in charge of government buildings. The Otay Mesa Port expansion is just one of Sandags mega projects, Another is a Cross Border Trolley project, which we haven’t heard much about lately. This project would create a round trip Tijuana to San Diego transit system requiring an enormous border infrastructure overhaul. We may mention that while the San Ysidro Transit center receives an estimate 12,000 pedestrians crossing from Tijuana to the US every weekday, Sandag has never installed any public restroom facilities, leaving passengers forced to pay .50 cents fee inside the Mc Donald’s mall. Meanwhile as commuters inch their way across the San Ysidro border a garden variety of " pay to cross faster" hustles have appeared. Some are new but it’s an old game a game small time hustlers and big time government agencies are cashing in on: getting people across the world’s busiest border faster.

House of Mexico Celebrates 20 Year Anniversary. .by Vivian Marlene Dunbar ...Sunday, June, 30,
2024, the House of Mexico celebrated its 20th anniversary. Located in San Diego’s Balboa Park, the House of Mexico is part of an historic cultural exhibit, a group of " Exposition Cottages" or little houses, each individually representing over 34 different ethnic groups, highlighting San Diego’s cultural diversity. These cottages are part of the Balboa Park House of Pacific Relations International Cottages exhibit., which first opened in 1935. Oddly, the addition of the House of Mexico ran into problems. Although it was part of the original 1935 exhibit, according to a KPBS report, it " disappeared for six years". The project could not seem to take hold until , a group of activists, led by renowned California human rights leader Enrique Morones, made it happen in 1996. " It was unbelievable to me that there was no House of Mexico." Morones told the Baja News. " adding " it has been quite challenging to finally get the House of Mexico in Balboa Park." citing difficulties with the early House of Pacific Relations administration. Enrique Morones, original president and founder of Border Angels and currently founder and president of Gente Unida, is world renowned human right activist, best known for leading the first groups of people dropping off water and supplies for migrants in the desert. Morones is one of the nation’s foremost defenders and spokesman for migrant rights and has appeared on most USA news media. We are also proud to have Enrique as a Baja News contributor. Thanks to his efforts, the House of Mexico holds a firm place among the House of Pacific Relations International Cottages. House of Mexico hosts a variety of yearly events and celebrations, such as an " Art , & Color Fiesta" celebrating Mexican art and food, and a special " December Nights" held on the First Friday and Last Saturday of December and the "Ethnic Food Fair" on the last Saturday of May. USA Civil War 2024

As a history nerd for many years, I study the cycles of time and I see a civil war in the USA. The USA has been at marginal peace within its borders since the secession of the Confederate States of America, when the civil war ended in April, 1865. Thereafter, the USA saw only local uprisings, and protests in the following century and a half. The USA went to war, not only in foreign lands: Europe, Asia, and parts of Africa. The rumbles of civil war began in the USA on January 6, 2021, and I believe November 2024 will be the start if the former president doesn't win the election. He is again whipping up his people with comments like: “Now if I don't get elected, it's going to be a bloodbath for the whole that's gonna be the least of it,” he added. “It's going to be a bloodbath for the country.” “Trump warns of ‘bloodbath’ for auto industry and country if he loses the election.” “Trump says immigrants are ‘poisoning the blood of our country.” Biden campaign likens comments to Hi**er. Jen Psaki reminded her viewers “During his first term, he flat out refused to condemn the political violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, saying there were ‘very fine people on both sides,’” Psaki continued, “In 2020, he about shooting people who were protesting the death of George Floyd, saying, ‘Can’t you just shoot them? Just shoot them in the legs or something.’” The plans for government takeover are no longer secret. Project 2025, a 1,000 page document funded by the Heritage Foundation spells out in detail what the new USA will look like. If Trump loses, he will not go quietly. His cult is ready to fight and has benefactors with deep pockets. My prophecy is that the federal military will mainly hold, those in command are aware of the danger Trump poses to both the USA and the world balance of power, but the red states national guards may not have such a global take on the situation and could side with the MAGA/Christofacist/White Supremacists. I think the war will be bloody and not solve anything. All those discontented will go back into the closet until they are ready to explode again. If Trump wins, there will be different problems. He has stated he will become a dictator on day one. Project 2025 will be put in action. The USA will become a Christian nation, laws dictated by religion, a federal abortion ban; cancel healthcare, protections for LGBTQ+, trans community, same s*x marriage; create and give the president full power, like a king or an emperor. Those are a few of the plans. Google it and see an outline. Trump wants retribution against all opposition, government workers replaced with those loyal to him and prison time to all opposition. Those in prison for the January 6th attack on Congress will be pardoned. Trump is the mouthpiece, religion the cause. The USA was formed to get away from religious wars in England, Scotland and Ireland, from the Inquisition and the Dark Ages. The current Evangelical, conservative, Christo fascist leaders want religion to rule the government. The first step by taking over the Supreme court has enraged much of the populace. Project 2025 is fanning the fire. A weak USA seen by the world is dangerous. A country at war within is like a wounded animal - predators see an easy kill. A time for Putin to grab Ukraine, the Muslim Brotherhood to crush Israel, and China grab Taiwan. These countries rely on the USA for protection and military ordnance. The month of November 2024 will be the turning point for them as well as for the USA. If you don't have a permanent visa for Mexico, I suggest you get one asap. I think if there is a civil war, the Mexican government will close the border until it is over. You get to decide: is this a crackpot prophecy from a fanatic historian . . . or maybe not?
