“Today is a sad day for Indigenous Peoples and justice everywhere. The U.S. Parole Commission’s denial of parole for Leonard Peltier, America’s longest serving Indigenous political prisoner, is a travesty,” said Nick Tilsen, president and CEO of NDN Collective. “They denied parole to a survivor of genocidal Indian boarding schools as he struggles to survive this unjust incarceration, they insist on holding him for a crime for which they have no physical evidence against him.”

✊🏽 NDN Collective will continue to demand freedom for Leonard Peltier as his attorneys file an appeal of this decision and push for a grant of clemency from President Joe Biden.

If you haven't yet taken the virtual toxic tour of the South Valley east of the river, wow, you must. Wonder why so many families are experiencing serious health issues. Take a look at this congested toxic tour. It is a David and Golliath story for sure. And this is just one of multiple toxic sites you need to become aware of. How many times have you driven by these places and wondered.... what do they do there? The toxic tour will make you shudder to think families and communities live surrounded by places like this. This is an ongoing struggle and everyone's health is in question.

Tips for advocating for your Veteran: Do you know of or have a Veteran family member being treated by the VA? Each floor or department has their own social worker. As the patient moves they will have a new social worker and likely a new team. Make yourself known to them and they can be your best patient advocate, get to know your veteran's nurse, therapists, and doctors. Get their extension numbers. Follow them to the new floor or department. The social worker meets with Dr.s and therapists for team meetings to determine what's next and needed for the patient. The more you are involved, the more involved they are. They really do care and show it. Let them know your wishes and concerns. It really makes a difference in how your veteran is treated and cared for. Good luck!

Last night on Raices the program was focused on Latina women's music, emphasizing the history over the decades of recordings. Latina women were removed from participation in traditional indigenous music and creativity as part of colonization in establishing a dominant patrilineal society. Latina resistance is marked through the evolution of women in music, through forms that include song, playing and mastering instruments, and composition. This did not come easy, there were many compromises and sacrifices made along the way. Many that modernity gives harsh critique. We don't know what they experienced in more oppressive times. It is important to explore this history to better know how we arrived to the musical expression of the day. Interestingly I found this link that is an introduction to anyone who is interested and would like to look deeper into Latina musicians.

Meet eight of the most important women in the history of Spanish-language music.
