Renowned South African musician Bulelwa Mtukukana popularly known as Zahara has died.

Reportedly, the Loliwe hitmaker died on Monday night at a private Johannesburg Hospital where she was admitted to due to liver complications two weeks ago.

The multi-award-winning singer has passed on at the age of 36.

The two are on an intercountry tour that is aimed at benefitting the artistic realm as other aspects such as promoting various businesses and adventures also stand to benefit.

Today (December 11) is International Mountains Day. As one way of commemorating this day, Infotainment Malawi took time to compile some of the most interesting facts about Malawi's largest mountain, Mount Mulanje. The following are ten of them:

1. Mount Mulanje is a Massif (It is a large mountain formed by a group of connected mountains).

2. Its peak (Sapitwa Peak) which stands at 3,002 metres above sea level is the highest point in Malawi.

3. It takes you 36-38 kilometres (depending on routes taken) to reach Sapitwa from Lujeri River Estate where hikers start their hiking from.

4. The 36 kilometre journey does not take you a day. You have to spend either two or three nights before you reach Sapitwa Peak and the other two/three to return to Lujeri River Estate. Tourists spend the nights in huts that were built along the way to the amazing topmost part of the tropical Central and Southern Africa. These huts are Minunu, Chinzama and Madzeka.

5. It is the home to the largest vertical rock wall in Africa, the Chambe Rock Face. The Chambe cliffs rise above 1,700 metres above sea level.

6. Alias Malawi's Island in the sky, the mountain is a home to more species of plants that contributes to the amazing looks of the ranges.

7. It is a home to a special type of tree that you will never find in any other place in the world. This tree is called Mulanje Cedar and was declared a national tree. Some of trees are more than 200 years old.

8. Malawi's ministry of tourism strongly advises tourists to have expert guidance from tour guides because some paths are not clearly visible and the weather often changes to very cold and cloudy conditions as hiking becomes higher.

9. Geological surveys found out that the mountain has deposits of minerals called bauxite but mining activities are not taking place to avoid environmental damage to the mountain.

10. It is a home of numerous waterfalls, breathtaking natural pools and beautiful lookouts.

TAY GRIN TO PERFORM IN ZAMBIA

Celebrated Malawian Hip Hop artist Limbani Kalilani popularly known as Tay Grin is going to perform in Zambia on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

The self-acclaimed Nyau King will particularly do the performance at Ngoma Awards presentation ceremony to be held at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.

Speaking to NPL, the 39-year-old artist says it is an honour to be invited to attend and perform at Zambia's biggest award ceremony.

He further says he is going to perform So Mone, a song that he did together with Zambian star, Elton Mulenga alias Yo Maps.

In addition, Tay Grin will link up with the Zambian media influencer, Mutale Mwanza, who recently visited Malawi and had a buzz with the Lubwa banger maker.

Ngoma Awards are organised annually by the Zambia's National Arts Council to recognise the nation's culture and artistic talent.
