The Independent Complaints Commission (ICC) has launched an investigation into the leak of graphic images showing Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima lying half-naked in Chikangawa Forest, Mzimba, following the fatal June plane crash that claimed his life and that of eight others.

ICC spokesperson Happy Njalam'mano confirmed that investigators have engaged relevant institutions for information and described the cooperation as positive. However, Njalam'mano noted that it is too early to determine when the investigation will be concluded due to the complexity of the case and the technical nature of the evidence.

Deputy National Police Spokesperson Harry Namwaza also confirmed that police have begun their own inquiry in response to recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry report on the crash.

The report urged both the ICC and the police to investigate the leak, suggesting that the breach of duty of care to bereaved families and the nation could have involved law enforcement officers.

Officials from the Catholic Church have confirmed that Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa is in Holland receiving medical treatment for a long-standing knee problem. This clarification dispels rumors circulating on social media that the Archbishop had fled the country due to alleged threats from the ruling party.

Vicar General Monsignor Boniface Tamani stated that Archbishop Msusa is being treated at the Montfort Missionary Hospital and will return to Malawi upon completing his treatment.

The speculation arose after Archbishop Msusa’s recent sermon at Limbe Cathedral, where he criticized the Commission of Inquiry report on the June plane crash in Chikangawa Forest that killed Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima and eight others. Msusa demanded a more detailed explanation, asserting that the truth about the tragedy would eventually come to light.

The Commission of Inquiry attributed the accident to natural and human errors, citing adverse weather conditions and the decision to proceed with the flight despite warnings.
