Youth Unites to Support 82-Year-Old Gogo Mwale in Farming Initiative

In a heartwarming display of community spirit and kindness, a group of dedicated youth volunteers on September 14, 2024, traveled 15 kilometers from Mzuzu City to Kapirimtende, Mzimba District to support Gogo Jeston Mwale, an 82-year-old striving to provide for his family through agriculture.

The initiative, part of the "Smile and Shine" program on SBS Podcast and courtesy of Humanity Voice, aimed to demonstrate the power of youth action to restore back humanity.

Upon arriving at Gogo Mwale’s home, the volunteers quickly organized themselves to assist with not only farming tasks but also household chores.

The day began with a communal breakfast before heading out to work in the field and later lunch fostering a sense of unity and kindness.

While some volunteers tended to household needs, others focused on the farm, making ridges on half an acre for 2024/2025 planting rainy season.

“This is the true definition of bringing back lost humanity,”

“By coming together, we are not just helping Gogo Mwale; we are learning how to be kind through action.” said Maltida, one of Volunteers

According to the team leader for the volunteers, Augustine Kambuzi Banda, the elderly often face significant challenges, including neglect, witchcraft accusations, and health problems, making their need for community support more critical hence the initiative.

"It is our responsibility to take care of the elderly, protect their rights and making sure they are safe",

"Today we decided to pay him a surprise visit and assist with house shores and farming activities", Said Banda

Meanwhile, after a rewarding day of labor, the volunteers sat down with Gogo Mwale to hear his life stories and gather advice for the youth.

In thanking the volunteers Gogo Mwale said, “Am very glad today as this have never happened in my life before, seeing the youth helping the elderly uplifts my soul",

Adding he said, "To restore humanity, we must change our mindset, especially towards the the elderly, the youth hold a huge stake in how we are building our society”.

The 82 old grandpa also shared his pressing need for farm inputs, particularly fertilizer, to enhance his farming efforts for the upcoming season.

With limited resources, he emphasized the importance of external support to sustain his agricultural activities, which are vital for his family’s well-being.

“Am very old and hardly provide for my family, I have never received any government cash incentives nor coupon to buy fertilizer. I appeal to well-wishers to assist me with the necessary supplies.”

The "Smile and Shine" episode on featuring Gogo Mwale is a powerful reminder of the importance of kindness in action.

As the youth come together to support elders like Gogo Mwale, they not only uplift individuals but also foster a culture of compassion that strengthens societal bonds, thereby building and restoring humanity.

Understanding Obsession in Relationships: Facing Reality - Overcome Obsession: The 7CA Healing Process.

Definition of Obsession

Obsession in the context of relationships refers to an unhealthy fixation on a partner that can lead to overwhelming thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

It often manifests as an intense preoccupation with the partner’s life, opinions, and emotional states, which may result in an inability to focus on other aspects of one’s own life.

This fixation can escalate to controlling behaviors, extreme jealousy, or an overwhelming need for reassurance from the partner.

Impact of Obsession on Relationships

1. Erosion of Trust

Obsession often breeds distrust. When one partner becomes excessively preoccupied with the other, it can lead to suspicion and insecurity.

This dynamic may cause one partner to feel smothered or scrutinized, undermining trust and creating a toxic environment.

2. Loss of Individual Identity

Individuals who experience obsessive thoughts about their partner may lose touch with their own interests, hobbies, and friendships.

They may prioritize the relationship to the detriment of their own well-being.

This loss of individuality can lead to resentment and dissatisfaction in the relationship.

3. Increased Anxiety and Stress

Obsession often accompanies heightened anxiety.

A partner may feel constantly worried about losing the other or may engage in repetitive behaviors to alleviate their anxiety.

Such as checking their partner's phone, questioning their whereabouts, or demanding to know their thoughts and feelings.

This cycle creates tension and can negatively affect both partners’ mental health.

4. Controlling Behaviors

An obsessive partner may resort to controlling behaviors in an attempt to mitigate their fears.

This could include dictating who their partner can spend time with, excessive communication monitoring, or imposing restrictions on their partner’s social interactions.

Such behavior undermines the foundation of a healthy relationship, which is built on mutual respect and autonomy.

5. Neglected Communication

When one partner is obsessed, open and honest communication can break down.

The obsessive partner may struggle to communicate their needs or listen to their partner’s concerns, leading to misunderstandings and unresolved issues.

This avoidance of healthy communication can lead to further emotional distance.

6. Emotional Burnout

Over time, the pressure of an obsessive relationship can lead to emotional exhaustion for both partners.

The partner being obsessed over may feel burdened by the weight of their partner’s expectations and fears, while the obsessing partner may experience chronic stress and anxiety.

This emotional burnout can hinder personal growth and self-esteem.

7. Potential for Codependency

Obsession can pave the way for codependent dynamics in a relationship, where one partner relies heavily on the other for emotional support and validation.

This dependency can stifle personal growth and lead to unhealthy patterns of behavior, where both partners become trapped in a cycle of neediness.

Conclusion

While passion and connection are essential components of a healthy relationship, obsession erodes those foundations, leading to detrimental effects on both partners' mental health and emotional well-being.

Therefore, it’s essential to cultivate a balance between closeness and independence, ensuring both partners can thrive as individuals while nurturing their shared bond.

If you or someone you know may be struggling with obsessive thoughts in a relationship, seeking support is very important.

This is a pivotal step toward healing and restoring balance.
