Last night, as I went to bed, I was reflecting on the 2 stop-work orders in 2 WhatsApp groups I am in. These were 2 of the biggest projects I would be working on this year. I had declared my 2025 done as of last year. Now, from nowhere, out of thin air, all 'momentarily' vanished like that. I was comforting myself that I had not started drawing any funds from the projects yet, but they were promising projects.

Although I did not make commitments financially depending on these, I had put my mind at ease and started clearing some of my current obligations with other clients to focus solely on these. But yesterday, I went to sleep with none of them. If I, who was just working on a promise, with a contract in place for 1, am affected this much, how about those whose work for years now depended on USAID? I started feeling sorry for people who may lose their jobs due to this order. But it was at this moment that I realized that I am looking at this situation driven by selfish and personal gains, not the impact the people who give the money want it for. In the 2 hours I thought about this situation, never did I think of people in rural areas whose lives depend on medicines, agricultural inputs, sexual reproductive health care, critical medical supplies made available by support from The People of America. I was just thinking about what I stand to lose from my benefits and those who will lose their jobs.

This opened me to realize that I am not too far from politicians. Everyone thinks of themselves and not the people. We are all just selfish beings using other people's misery to enrich ourselves. We just want to be seen like we care, while the vulnerable watch us and think we really have their welfare at heart. We live in a sad world. I hope we can wake up and let each go fetch for themselves now without using the poor as our bait.

This experience has taught me to be more selfless and think of the greater good. I am inspired to make a positive impact on my community and the world at large. I believe that we all have the power to create change and make a difference. Let us all strive to be more empathetic and compassionate towards others. We can create a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come.
