Youth Movement for a Change- YMC TO ADVOCATE AN INCLUSION FOR THE SOCIAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE YOUTH

REVISED ADVERT FOR THE POSITION OF BRAND AMBASSADORS
Considering number of factors at play in Malawian context of youth development, the Girl Effect-Malawi and the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) have revised the requirements for the position of Brand Ambassadors, among other things, by increasing age bracket from 18- 22 years to 18- 25 years. Those who do not belong to youth organisations and youth clubs can also apply.
Please take note that application window has been extended and the revised advert provided below is likely to appear in the Newspaper on Wednesday.
Recruitment of Brand Ambassadors
“Girl Effect-Malawi Zathu Crew”
BACKGROUND
In April, 2017, Girl Effect will launch its first new brand since the creation of Yegna in 2013 in Ethiopia. The new brand will be based in Malawi and called “Zathu”.
At its core there will be a group of boys and girls who come together to play music. Their story will play out across five products: music videos, songs, a radio show, mobile sites and club booklets. These products will reach targeted audiences primarily through broadcast distribution but, since Malawi has one of the worlds lowest GDPs per head, the reach of TV and radio is relatively low. To reach those who do not have access to broadcast media, the Girl Effect will take the products to them.
PROFILE OF THE POSITION
The Girl Effect-Malawi seeks to recruit Brand ambassadors to be called “Zathu Crew” to support the launch of the Girl Effect-Malawi Brand Zathu, distribution of brand assets and content products as well as running promotional activities and raising awareness amongst the youth and enabling audiences - community members, parents and community leaders - in each of the year one four priority districts; Zomba, Machinga, Lilongwe, and Mzimba/Mzuzu.
The Malawi Zathu Crew will be recruited on a consultancy-based 6-month short-term contract to support the launch, working closely with the brand team; the Partnerships Manager; and reporting to the Networks and Distribution Manager.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Distribution Planning and Logistics
Support in brokering arrangements with distribution channel partners
Support in developing detailed logistics plans and distribution timelines to ensure brand collateral available at distribution sites prior to launch
2. Product distribution and promotional materials
- Play key role in distributing brand collateral (content products and promotional materials) to distribution points across each of the priority distribution channels
- Serve as mobile distribution point through Peer-to-Peer distribution model (mobile file transfer through phones at popular community points etc.)
- Additional/ongoing distribution of brand collateral to distribution sites (e.g. as new music videos and singles are developed; as distribution is extended within each District)
- Support in monitoring distribution with channel partners
- Identify new and relevant opportunities and distribution channels for brand collateral post-launch
3. Brand Promotion and Awareness
- Zathu Crew will serve as mobile download sites through the Peer-to-Peer Distribution Channel Model. This will involve mobile file transfer through phones at community points as well as informally convening youth groups at a range of community points to air the live radio drama as it goes out (3 x per week, 2 x 30 min segments, 1 x 1-hour omnibus)
- Zathu Crew will be required to promote Girl Effect-Malawi events and encourage people to patronize them
- Zathu Crew will promote and talk about Malawi brand content with youth in their Districts
- Support the arrangements of and participate in all Girl Effect-Malawi events taking place in their district
- Flag interesting youth stories to the Girl Effect-Malawi team that can be used on radio or in print
REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES
- A girl or a boy aged 18-25 years old
- Secondary school graduate
- Strong social networks and experience in youth-work or other community engagement activities (those recommended by the local government and/or reputable youth organizations or community leaders will have an added advantage)
- Good communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
- Enthusiastic, warm, energetic, open and progressive, engaging, and keen to make a contribution to the community and society
- Ability to plan, report and keep records
- Ability and willingness to personify the Malawi brand - progressive but of culture; promoting the value of unity; living and breathing youth culture
- Willingness to comply with the Malawi safeguarding code of conduct
- Skills in English and other local languages used in the targeted districts
Spirit of volunteerism
- Proactive, creative, and team player
- Sense of honesty and integrity
- Based in one of the targeted districts Zomba, Machinga, Lilongwe, and Mzimba/Mzuzu
DURATION AND TERMS
- The contract will be for 6 months
- All Zathu Crew will need to undergo training in the first month of hire
- Zathu Crew will be provided with the necessary tools to deliver their role (e.g. transport support; personal promotional material (branded t-shirts/bags/chitenge/ wrist bands); Phones/radios/USB sticks/memory cards as needed (to be returned to Girl Effect Malawi on contract expiration)
- Zathu Crew will be paid a fee
LONG TERM PLANNING
While Brand Ambassadors` support will be required for an initial 6-month period associated with the launch of the Zathu brand in Malawi, there is potential for longer term involvement of Zathu Crew depending on further exploration and planning to understand the potential long term role and responsibilities of Brand Ambassadors, and recruitment and management of this group over the longer term which would ideally be led by a Network Partner.

Bangwe MP seeks assistance for rain
devastated households, claims 600 people
affectedBlantyre Bangwe MP Davie Kadzinja
has sent an SOS to well wishers to help over
600 people whom he said had their houses
devastated because of the Monday rains.
[caption id="attachment_98027"
align="alignright" width="600"] Limbe was
flooded Monday[/caption]
Kadzinja said over 60 households wer
eaffected translating into about 600 people.
"The government is doing its part but I would
like to ask other well wishers to come in as
quickly as possible. The situation is not
good," said Kadzinja.
He said apart from food and other relief items,
there was need to stock Bangwe clinic with
medical drugs as the facility does not have
enough medicine in stock yet the rain victims
need medical assistance.
Kadzinja, a clinician himself who runs Dalirani
clinic in the township, said clinicians at the
government run clinic do not have basic
medicine and pleaded with well wishers both
individuals and organisations to help the
victims with the medicine.
The Monday rains caused havoc in Blantyre
blowing off roofs of Bangwe Catholic Church
building and Makhetha Health Centre building
and the flooding of Limbe stream caused
extensive damage as FDH Bank and some
shops were forced to close for business on
Tuesday.
Officials from Blantyre City Council and
Blantyre District Council said Wednesday they
were yet to cost the damage.

Lets vote for our Felllow Follow Youth , together we can it only take seconds

Malawi is full of love, unity & power!
by Tamanda Chabvuta
Over the past week, I have grown and learnt a
lot and have felt the power of Malawian unity
and the deep love you have for Malawi.
Your untiring support, voting from the day you
learnt about this, to the close of the vote – as
I believe you will – has given new meaning to
my understanding of the big hearts that
Malawians have, and why our country is the
undisputed Warm Heart of Africa.
You have all united and voted, voted and
voted, endorsing me over and over again and
reiterating your own dream for a better
Malawi.
We all know that "where there is unity, there is
always victory." This is evident because your
resolve has made us come this far and I have
all hope that we are close to victory.
My plea this morning is that we keep walking
in unity to the finish line. You've held my
hand this far Malawi, please walk with me to
the finish line.
It is only through continued voting and
canvassing for more votes, that we can sing
victory in this final lap because Colombia and
Zimbabwe are hot on our heels.
On a personal note, I feel even more
empowered, to stand for Malawi at the Global
Landscapes Forum in Paris.
Whatever the outcome, your trust just shows
how far we have come and how much we are,
as a people, willing and ready to support
anyone with an idea and a dream; be they a
boy or a girl, and regardless of where they
come from.
We are truly one people and one nation.
I pray to the Almighty that our unity and
shared dreams and vision remain as strong,
not only in the next 24 hours, but for many,
many years to come!
The late Nelson Mandela was once asked to
explain the Zulu term "Ubuntu".
He responded:
"The question is not whether people should
not enrich themselves. The question is
therefore are you going to do so in order to
enable the community around you to be able
to improve? These are the important things in
life and if one has done something like that,
you have done something worth to be
appreciated."
With your votes, and with you, through the
Grace of God, I pledge to continue working for
the Malawian farmer and for the development
of our country.
With your votes, and with you, via the Grace of
God, I will continue enabling communities
around me improve their livelihoods by
diseminating the information they need.
With respect to emulating Nelson Mandela, I
beg you all to continue on the path of Ubuntu,
realising that “I am because we are! I will be
because you are!”
Please, cast those votes today more than ever
before. Remind others to vote too. I thank you
from my heart of hearts.
Respectfully and lovingly at your service,
Tamanda Chabvuta
