Activist Bon Kalindo who is leading today's Blantyre anti-government protests has told the Malawi police not to disturb the protests as it is the Constitutional right for the citizens protest.

Currently, the protesters are on their way to Blantyre District offices where they will deliver their petition.

Kalindo's protests dubbed" Maliwi Salibwino" are among other things forcing the current Tonse Adminstration improve the rising costs of living.

President cancels Independence celebrations

State President Dr Lazarus Chakwera says he has cancelled the independence day celebrations which were scheduled for Bingu National Stadium on Monday July 6.

Addressing the Nation at 5pm Sunday in Lilongwe the president said he arrived at that decision to avoid further spread of the disease as people travel from one place to the other.

" I urge those planning to travel to the celebrations to cancel their travel plans accordingly, " said Chakwera.

"We are all at risk of this corona virus. It also includes me and state vice president that means we have to take this seriously."

He told journalists that by cancelling the celebrations, the gain is much more than the country can lose now.
