The Criminal Court in the Maldives has sentenced Bassam Adeel Jaleel, the former President of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), to 23 years in prison for embezzling $1.2 million from a FIFA COVID-19 relief fund.

With this verdict, Bassam's total prison sentence now stands at 32 years. He was already serving a separate 9-year sentence for a prior conviction related to corruption during his tenure at the FAM, bringing his cumulative jail time to over three decades.
