The MSM, through ministers Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo and Kailesh Jagutpal and PPS Sandra Mayotte, held a press conference this Saturday morning. One of the themes commented was the 2024-2025 Budget. She added that the budget is a social one and therefore meets the expectations of the entire population, since the measures contained therein are achievable. The Minister of Health also commented on the budget. Kailesh Jagutpal explained that the various increases in pensions and allowances will bring relief to the population as a whole. PPS Sandra Mayotte strongly criticised opposition MPs for what she considered to be their regrettable attitude as did Kailesh Jagutpal. He deplored the absence of “several opposition MPs” during budget debates. He pointed out that this was an opportunity for them to obtain clarification on various budget measures.

"Minister Padayachy has added fuel to the inflation fire", blasts Navin Ramgoolam. The Ptr-MMM-ND alliance faced the press this morning. The leader of the Labour Party was the first to comment on the budgetary measures and the high cost of living. For him, the 2024-2025 Budget can be resumed as “monetary illusion”. Richard Duval also commented on the high cost of living. “It is the biggest concern of the population and has not been addressed,” he said. According to the New Democrats MP, everyone was expecting a reduction in the price of basic foodstuffs. However, he regrets that the government is making no effort to relieve the population.
The MMM leader commented on the Political Financing Bill. This bill has once again been introduced in Parliament. He recalled that in 2016, Xavier Luc Duval, who was then Deputy Prime Minister, chaired an inter-ministerial committee and submitted a report which was never published. It was, he added, in 2019, on the eve of the general elections, that government came up with completely different propositions to what was included in the 2016 report.
On the controversy surrounding Kavy Ramano, the MMM leader wonders why the Minister of Environment did not report the fraudulent use of his name as a notary to the police.

This budget will bring an economic disaster,” he said. The leader of the opposition deplored the fact that the economy is not being well managed. He recalled that the IMF has taken the Minister of Finance to task. “Everything he said is not true. Everyone knows that the cost of living will increase again.
