OREGON22 - A look at the placing table
Besides the medal table, World Athletics also released a placing table for the 2022 World Championships in Oregon.
The placing table allocates points for each athlete who finished in the top 8 (8 points for first place down to 1 point for eigth), allowing a better look at a country's depth.
● 15 African countries are included (7 with medalists and another 8 with athletes with 4-8 placings)
● Ethiopia and Kenya not only feature prominently in the medal table but are also close 3rd and 4th of the placing table with 11 more placings between 4th and 8th.
● South Africa (33rd) is the 5th African country despite having no individual medalist.
● Morocco claimed one gold but no other top 8 finalist
● Highest placing ever at a World Championships for Nigeria (gold), Burkina Faso (silver), Liberia (4th), Niger (4th), and Eritrea in a female event (4th).
