HKTDC Education & Careers Expo draws talent scouts
On-site recruitment and inspiring seminars to guide you to success

Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the 32nd HKTDC Education & Careers Expo runs from 2 to 5 February at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

700 organisations, including local, mainland and foreign educational institutions, various Consulates General, public organisations and private companies will offer information on education in 20 countries and regions as well as employment opportunities. Admission to the event is free.

Following the resumption of quarantine-free travel between Mainland China and Hong Kong and the removal of most pandemic restrictions, many industries are enlarging their talent pool to grow in this new normal and seize post-pandemic opportunities. This is particularly the case for the travel and tourism and catering industries. As the world returns to normal, the Expo offers a unique and insightful platform for students to network with educational institutions and employers.

The Expo offers designated zones under two major categories, Education and Careers, giving the public information related to further education and opportunities in the workplace.

In the Careers-themed Zones, representatives from professional bodies, recruitment platforms, government departments and public and private organisations will share the latest career information and will offer more than 2,800 job openings. Employers at the Recruitment Square Zone will accept job applications and interview candidates on-site.

The Education-themed Zones will provide the latest admission information of local, mainland and international universities, post-secondary institutions, continuing education institutes and more, while a number of internship and job opportunities will be introduced at the Youth Zone.

More than 80 informative events will be held during the Expo, including seminars on further education and career opportunities. Industry experts will share valuable insights and experiences, including Mr Henry Lee, Account Director, Talent and Learning Solutions of LinkedIn, who will highlight the latest trends in Hong Kong’s labour market and offer job-hunting tips for the digital age. Mr Sunny Chan, director and screenwriter of Hong Kong films Table for Six and Men on the Dragon, will reflect on his inspiring journey from screenwriter to director. Fataunt, a registered nurse and YouTuber, will talk about how he became a KOL when attending university. Mr Siu Yan-ho, doctoral lecturer, will share his journey from being an under-achiever to becoming a doctoral lecturer.

Catering to industry demand, the Expo will feature a range of Career Theme Days. Co-organised with the Vocational Training Council (VTC), the first Theme Day will be VPET: Skilling Talent for the Future (2 February); followed by the GBA Opportunities Theme Day (3 February); Exploring Construction Industry (4 February) co-organised with the Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC); and the Slasher Generation Theme Day (5 February).

The Expo will feature several emerging study hotspots in Education Theme Days, focusing on the European Union (2 February), United Kingdom (3 February), France (4 February) and Germany (5 February), which provide in-depth introductions to these popular overseas education destinations, including admission requirements and process, campus life and more.

PRESS RELEASE

Sands China Makes Noteworthy Contributions in Responsible Gaming in 2022

(Macao, Jan. 19, 2023) – Sands China’s responsible gaming efforts and achievements in 2022 were noteworthy, and provide strong momentum for continuing the company’s long-standing responsible gaming work in the community in 2023.

“Sands China is very proud of our responsible gaming team for remaining steadfast in carrying out their impactful work during another challenging pandemic year in 2022,” said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. “Responsible gaming is an essential element of our industry and a key aspect of Sands China’s corporate social responsibility efforts. As we look onward with optimism for Macao in the new year, we will continue to support the Macao SAR government’s responsible gaming strategy in promotion of the stable development of the city.”

Responsible Gaming Implementation Model Unit
In 2022, the Macao SAR government awarded The Venetian® Casino and The Londoner® Casino with the qualification of Responsible Gaming Implementation Model Unit in its Responsible Gambling Indicatorsprogramme.

Sands China was the first integrated resort operator in Macao to apply for inspections under the programme, with the assessments carried out by government departments and local universities. The programme presented a trophy to Sands China to mark its accomplishment at a government ceremony in December.

Donations
In February, Sands China donated a total of MOP 450,000 to four local nongovernmental organisations to aid their responsible gaming efforts in 2022: the Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau, the Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office, the Macau Gaming Industry Employees Home and the Youth Volunteers Association of Macao.

Sands China has donated more than MOP 6.25 million since 2006, when it began making responsible gaming donations to various local NGOs each year as part of the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility. The donations help support responsible gaming efforts such as parent-child responsible gaming and financial management activities, roadshows, workshops, trainings, sharing sessions, and responsible gaming promotional videos and quiz games.

Training
As part of its ongoing support of the Macao SAR Government’s “Lost Control, Lose Family” responsible gaming campaign, Sands China hosted a full-day training course entitled Knowing More About Responsible Gaming with the Youth Volunteers Association of Macau, with sessions offered in January, May and June at The Venetian Macao’s Adelson Advanced Education Centre.

The topics covered included self-exclusion, third-party exclusion, the use and operation of responsible gaming kiosks and stations, the eight attitudes and behaviours of responsible gaming, the risks of gambling addiction, and the latest information on responsible gaming. Nearly 150 Sands China’s Responsible Gaming Ambassadors participated in the initiative.

Additionally, Sands China held an online Responsible Gaming Refresher Training for frontline team members on the company’s myLEARNING online platform in November, with more than 7,200 frontline team members joining the training.

Parent-Child Event Series
More than 270 participants joined Sands China’s Responsible Gaming Parent-Child Event Series in 2022. Thefive events featured fun and interactive activities with the objective of improving family communication, developing the concept of smart financial management, and increasing responsible gaming awareness among families.

In one activity, Little Master Chef, children received play money and were given the option to either purchase ingredients for completing their mission of decorating a cupcake, or spend their money on toys and snacks, with their parents there to provide guidance. The aim was to strengthen the family relationship and to teach children the concept of financial management.

Visiting Local NGOs
Led by Andy Kobel, Sands China’s senior vice president of table games and gaming optimization, the company’s responsible gaming team visited four local NGOs in September: the Youth Volunteers Association of Macao, the Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau, the Macau Gaming Industry Employees Home Integrated Service Centre, and the Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office.

While there, the participants introduced Sands China’s responsible gaming promotions and went on site tours to learn more about the NGOs’ facilities and their services during the pandemic. The visits offered valuable opportunities for exchanging responsible gaming knowledge gained through these community partnerships.

Roadshows
In order to promote responsible gaming in the community, Sands China’s Responsible Gaming Ambassadors held three roadshows as part of Through the Years of Perplexity, a gambling disorder prevention campaign hosted by the Macau Gaming Employees Home at various locations such as Fai Chi Kei, Rotunda de Carlos Da Maia, and Taipa Flower City in October. The objective was to help tourists and the general public understand the negative impact of gambling addiction, and to guide people in need to seek help and counselling services. The three-day event attracted more than 3,000 people.

For team members, Sands China invited the Youth Volunteers Association of Macao, the Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau, the Macau Gaming Industry Employees Home, and the Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office to hold a total of 30 roadshows at various times throughout the year. The roadshows were held at Sands China’s back-of-house team member areas to strengthen and refresh team members’ understanding of responsible gaming in a fun and interactive way.

Sands China remains committed to the well-being of its guests and recognises the importance of responsible gaming in the Macao community. Sands China was the first gaming operator in Macao to launch a self-exclusion programme in 2004, and was a pioneer in including responsible gaming training in its company-wide team member orientation programme. Sands China established its comprehensive responsible gaming programme in 2007, with the goals of contributing to the continuous development of the Macao community, bearing corporate responsibility in addressing social issues and developing an environment and a culture of responsible gaming in Macao.

Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau Sets the Scene for ‘The Violin Case’
As Part of its Love for Arts and Cultural Development

[Macau, November 9, 2022] In full support of local arts and cultural development, Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau sponsored and will be featured as an important set for ‘The Violin Case’, an independent film directed by the award-winning and up-and-coming local filmmaker Max Bessmertny and is produced by Tentonine Productions Limited. The film, inspired by a true event that happened to renowned Macau-based painter Konstantin Bessmertny 6 years ago, is about a surreal one-night odyssey of a foreign painter who is in search of his lost artwork after he leaves it in the back seat of a taxi in the city of Macau.

‘The Violin Case’, which was 2 years in development and a year in preparation, captures diverse experiences all around Macau. The film, which spotlights over 40 locations in Macau, invites all to discover the unique and inspirational culture of the city. With this in mind, Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau, known for its affinity for events related to art and culture in the city, was handpicked as one of the iconic locations for the film ’s production.

While Amagao Art Gallery is set as the crucial location for one of the main scenes, other scenes were taken at the hotel’s signature NAAM Thai restaurant, the charming Vasco Bar & Lounge and the luxurious presidential suite, all of which became the artistic background for the film.

‘Artyzen is a hotel brand with passion for arts and culture, and we believe that movies are a wonderful way to showcase the heartbeat of Macau’s culture, reaching a captive audience of savvy and educated art-enthusiasts from across the globe. We sincerely thank Max, the movie director and the production house for loving the hotel for its rich cultural heritage and artistic settings.’ said Mr. Rutger Verschuren, Area Vice President, Macau Operations of Artyzen Hospitality Group and General Manager of Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau.

‘As the filming goes on, we are impressed that the film has been framed in a very unique way with Artyzen Grand Lapa as a natural backdrop, it is a celebration of the hotel brand’s mission to connect and inspire guests in the field of arts and culture of the city. We hope viewers will visit Macau and of course the hotel for a unique journey when ‘The Violin Case’ is released to the world.’ Mr. Verschuren said.

‘We really appreciate that Artyzen Grand Lapa has been with us since the very beginning. Our collaboration helps us take the story and the filming to the next level.” Max Bessmertny said. ‘Artyzen is where the journey started: my first pitch was at NAAM restaurant and the rest is history.’

‘The Violin Case’ is set to release next year after it travels through film festivals and film markets worldwide in early 2023.
