It has taken a while for me to get around to writing about and sharing the Merchant & Mills Trapeze dress pattern. It’s possible that this is because I’ve been making so many versions!

This is a versatile pattern, which is not immediately apparent from the pattern cover illustration. With a variety of options, such as plain or button-back details, this dress is suitable for everyone.

The Aura Dress by Papercut Patterns, is it my new favourite wrap dress?

This pattern is a modern version of the classic wrap dress. Featuring a deep V neckline (unusually both front and back), a cinched waist, and billowing sleeves, this is certainly a statement dress!

Having a few basic items in our wardrobes is essential for everyone.

Burda 6484 has become my go-to trouser pattern. The ankle is skimmed, with a hint of 70s flare added. The fact that they have a drop waist makes them extremely comfortable. This means that no waistband, loops, or button holes are required. The speed with which they can be made makes them addictive!

The outfit is complete with a matching top, New Look 6163. This pattern is a staple for me, as it provides a great foundation for many blouse designs. This is a pull on top, so once again no button holes are required. Although there is a button detail on the neck, it is not necessary since the neckline is wide.

The perfect base for a mix & match holiday wardrobe.

This Very Easy Vogue pattern 8822 that I bought many moons ago sat in my store cupboard for a long time. Like many in lockdown (remember those days), I cleared through all my fabric stash and patterns. The fact that I had purchased the pattern twice shows that I must have loved it! It was evident that it was time to finally make it.

The pattern is now out of print, but it is easily found on EBay. I made the top a while ago, but I have decided to share my creation now. I am doing so, because although it is one of the simplest things I have ever made, it receives the most compliments whenever I wear it.

Why did I choose to make Simplicity’s workwear jacket 9239?

I had been searching for a casual workwear style jacket that could be easily worn over sweaters as well as T shirts. Simplicity 9239 seemed to fit the bill, especially with its extra wide sleeves and back pleated detail.

The Atlas wrap dress is a combination of a shirt on the top half, and a short sarong skirt on the bottom half. There are two sleeve options and there is a breast pocket should you like a little extra detailing. It is a fabulous design and I am sure will become a classic.

Is Butterick 6130 my ultimate jumpsuit?

I purchased this pattern not long after it was first issued in 2014, the jumpsuit having caught my eye immediately. The fact that it is still in production some nine years later, is a testament to its popularity. However, for some reason I kept passing over the project until now.

Just because sometimes simple and understated is the best ☺️

Having a basic top or blouse pattern in your collection is essential. Being able to run up a top in an hour or so is truly gratifying.

I love the basic top from New Look 6163. Here I have hacked it with 3/4 ruffle sleeves.

Life or should I say work has taken over 😕 Each evening I look at my sewing machine and projects too tired to create. However, my passion has not gone, but has been temporarily put on hold until I have time once again.

I have so many projects cut out, and I cannot wait to see and wear them 🪡 🧵

How do you bring new life to an old pair of jeans?

As a surprise anniversary gift, my husband gave me a book on Boro textiles. Boro is Japan's art of reusing and repairing fabrics and garments through patching and repairing.

Boro and Sashiko are slow sewing techniques, almost a meditation. A project can be days or even months in the making. They are a great way to save and preserve valuable textiles or garments that mean something to you. It can be a damaged favorite outfit, children's clothing, or items from a loved one or family member. While doing so, you take these precious items from storage and give them a new life and a new purpose.

I was looking for a trouser pattern with some 70’s attitude and flare! Burda style 6484, although not immediately obvious, did actually fit the criteria. Here I am wearing them with a Closet Core jacket, to be reviewed next!
