Make It Big was the second studio album by English pop duo Wham!, released in 1984. The album was a commercial success, hitting number one in both the US and the UK and spawning four singles, all reaching the top three in the US and the UK.

George Michael died of heart disease on Christmas Day in 2016.

A Distant Shore is the first studio album by Tracey Thorn (one half of the duo Everything But The Girl), released via Cherry Red Records in 1982.
Recorded for just £138, the album reached number 1 in the UK Indie Chart in 1983.
In October 2024, Cherry Red Records re-released this album with a few bonus tracks added.
Highly recommended 👍

Something for a chilly / frosty December 1st 🥶

Snow Borne Sorrow is an album by Nine Horses, released in October 2005.
Nine Horses was a musical collaboration between singer/instrumentalist David Sylvian, his brother and frequent collaborator drummer Steve Jansen, and electronic composer/remixer Burnt Friedman
Other contributors include Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen, Swedish vocalist Stina Nordenstam, and Ryuichi Sakamoto on piano.

Not actually a full album this time, this is an exclusive 12" single released for the Record Store Day in 2022.
It comes from Johnny Marr (ex The Smiths). The A side is a Vince Clarke (ex Depeche Mode) remix of a track called "Spirit, Power and Soul" 👍.

Hanging on the wall in the background, is a print from the immensely talented artist Jonathan Edwards (Jonathan E Illustration)....no relation, just in case you were wondering 🤓.
It's called, appropriately, Record Shop.

Reggatta de Blanc is the second studio album by the Police, released on 5 October 1979. It was the band's first release to top the UK Albums Chart and features their first two UK number-one singles: "Message in a Bottle" and "Walking on the Moon".

It was the band's second album to bear a "Franglais" title, after their 1978 debut album Outlandos d'Amour. Reggatta de Blanc proved more popular and successful than its predecessor.

Revisiting 16 tracks from her back catalogue, and also adding 2 brand new songs, this is a very interesting collection.

"Total: From Joy Division to New Order" is a compilation album of material from Joy Division and New Order. It was released in the United Kingdom on 6 June 2011 and is the first album to feature songs from both bands in one album. It features five Joy Division tracks, including "Love Will Tear Us Apart", and thirteen New Order tracks, including a previously unreleased track, "Hellbent".

The record label were unhappy with calling the record a "Best Of", so after brainstorming with New Order, the title Total was eventually chosen by, founding band member, Bernard Sumner.

Dummy is the debut studio album by English electronic music band Portishead, released on 22 August 1994.
Featuring the exquisite vocal talents of Beth Gibbons, the production of the album uses a number of hip hop techniques, such as sampling, scratching, and loop-making.

(re)Discovering the pleasure of listening to full albums on record again, so I thought I'd share what is spinning on our turntable.

Kicking off with a classic album by Genesis, released on October 5th 1973.
The band members at that time were Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, Steve Hackett and Phil Collins.
A single was released from the album. "I know what I like (in your wardrobe)" became the band's first top 30 UK hit.
The album cover is a painting by Betty Swanwick titled The Dream. It was repainted, as the original did not include a lawnmower!!
