It’s been a while! The TEDxVilnius team has spent a few more silent years trying to figure out the possible futures for TEDxVilnius.

After a lot of thoughtful discussions, our team has decided that it’s ready for the new chapters and will not continue organizing new events in the future.

It has been the most rewarding 12 years and we’re forever grateful to everyone who has been involved in creating one of the most inspiring and timely conferences, bringing both global ideas and local voices to Vilnius.

Thank you to all of our wonderful partners, speakers, participants, volunteers and supporters, who helped spark creativity, imagination and curiosity in the city of Vilnius and its people. Visit www.tedxvilnius.com to see what an amazing journey it has been.

The TEDxVilnius team will continue to share the lessons and expertise with others, who work on bringing needed and outstanding ideas to the world.

During TEDxVilniusLive last Sunday we raised 𝟏𝟗𝟒𝟔 euros! All of it, minus transaction fees will be transferred directly to World Central Kitchen – a nonprofit, currently actively working and providing food to Ukrainians in Ukraine. See detailed report below. ⬇️

All income from TEDxVilniusLive ticket sales will be donated to World Central Kitchen – a nonprofit organization providing meals to Ukrainians at the war frontlines.

The organization was founded in 2010 by a Spanish-American chef José Andrés and is led by Nate Mook who is a fellow TEDx’er, TEDxMidAtlantic curator and TEDxVilnius 2015 speaker. From the first day of the war Nate and his team have been at the frontlines in Ukraine providing meals to Ukrainians every day. To this day they have served over 9 million meals and transported over 2.5 million kgs of food to 60+ cities and towns around Ukraine, where they cooperate with local chefs and set up local charity kitchens.

Just recently one of the restaurants in Kharkiv was struck by a missile, which left 4 people injured. A couple days later a new location was found to start serving local people again.
Even with a small bit, we couldn’t be more proud to contribute to the amazing work that World Central Kitchen does in Ukraine every single day.

Third TEDxVilniusLive workshop alert!

Maria Koreneva and Aleksander Garibashvili are physical theater practitioners and pedagogues from Ukraine. They have taught courses and workshops at the junction of theater and psychology throughout Ukraine and worldwide, and have opened an independent School of Physical Theater in Kharkiv, Ukraine in 2019. Maria and Aleksander are currently living in Vilnius and doing a residency at the Arts Printing House (Menu Spaustuve) where they work on a performance about the somatic response to the war in Ukraine.

We’re so excited to have Maria and Aleksandar join us for the event! Here is how they talk about their workshop:

The simple fact that we, people, cannot thrive in a state of loneliness, has a huge influence on our everyday behavior choices, doesn’t it? We all love to form habits and invent rituals, and are amazed to discover them through experiments. As humans, we are also endlessly inventive in the different ways of giving each other certain roles, thus creating relationships with other individuals, or groups. We don't usually know what these roles are when we play them.

In THE INSTINCT OF HUMAN CONNECTION workshop we invite you to explore some of these behavior choices and roles, especially the ones we are not usually aware of. We will laugh and gasp as we discover them in the playground of our one and a half hour workshop, where we try to take on these conventions through the use of physical theater exercises.

Here comes the second TEDxVilniusLive 2022 workshop!

In the phase of crisis we are all going through a range of emotions. Tough situations require rapid responses, which in the long run have a huge impact on our mental health and civic engagement. We are extremely happy to welcome Eglė and experience what it takes to become a little more resilient with a pinch of laughter.

The HUMOR AND LIVING workshop will invite us to delve into the meaning and impact of humor in human life, and bring some lightness to everyday situations. The workshop will focus not only on techniques, but a simple human presence and ability to stay alive and in-a-moment without any preparation or prejudice.

Eglė Stasiulytė is an artist who wears many hats - having been involved in clowning for more than a decade, she combines it with movement and at least a few dance styles that are very dear to her heart. From dance floor to directing, from coaching to performing, from costume design to copywriting, from inspiring conversations to uncontrollable laughter, Egle’s practice is truly interdisciplinary. New circus is her safe haven and a space where she brings all her talents and skills.

And here comes the first TEDxVilniusLive 2022 workshop!

The Wild Voice Workshop is a space for you to immerse yourself in a playful and improvisational process of singing exercises, learn about vocal breathing techniques and use your own voice as a tool to express emotions and ground yourself. No previous singing experience is necessary, the workshop is suitable both for professional singers and complete beginners.

The workshop will be led by Miglė Vilčiauskaitė MIGLOKO• - an artist, performer and a singer who has been practicing vocal techniques for 28 years since her time in kindergarten. Miglė studied music production in the Netherlands, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in jazz vocals from Vilnius College and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in music therapy at the Faculty of Medicine in Vilnius University.

What can you expect from the TEDxVilniusLive 2022 event?

After a 3 year year break TED is coming back with an in-person event in Vancouver on April 10-14. TEDxLive grants us a special license to bring TED to Vilnius and show some of the best TED talks before they reach ted.com. Expect some of the brightest minds working in medicine, AI, clean energy, education, economics just to name a few.

➡️ EXPERIENTIAL COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS

For almost two months now (we should of course include the pandemic as well) we have lived with heavy emotions such as tension, anger, worry, fear and uncertainty. To complement the TED2022 program we will offer a selection of experiential workshops that will help us ground ourselves, experience the power of community and look for ways how we can become more resilient through creative practices such as movement, voice, and physical presence. Each registered participant will be able to choose a workshop of their preference. First workshop will be announced at the beginning of next week!

Last weekend TED, TEDx and the world's education and creative community lost a great thinker and a visionary educator, Sir Ken Robinson.
Sir Ken was an inspiration to so many people around the world, his talk "Do Schools Kill Creativity?" was one of the first 6 talks posted to TED.com and to this day is the most watched TED Talk of all times, with more than 66 million views.

We believe that his ideas and creativity will live on in so many people around the word for generations to come.

We need your help.
Last June, at the TEDxVilnius “Syzygy” event, we all had a chance to meet Carrie Beckwith. She has shared with us her own story of Undiagnosed Autism and raised awareness of the invisible diversity which is very precious to many people.

This week Carrie and her family has reached out to us and the worldwide TEDx community asking for help. Over the lap of one year Carrie’s health has changed completely. Ehlers Danlos Syndrome has affected an entire body systems leaving her digestive system to fail, joints to dislocate easily, spine to collapse. Every system in the body is affected. The condition is causing Carrie to lose her memory, struggle with basic cognitive tasks, it is causing sight loss, balance problems, and could go on to develop seizures, paralysis and even death.

The only option to stop the symptoms from deteriorating is to have a surgery. The surgery and associated costs come to £70k which is why she needs our help.
