AFRISKI CLOSES ALL OPERATIONS AS LEGAL WOES RAGE ON

Afriski Mountain Resort is closed again after being served with another court order.

Spokeperson Koo Lemeke says all operations are suspended until the ongoing legal battles between shareholders are concluded.

This is further threatening to delay or completely derail this year’s skiing season that usually opens in June.

Chief Executive Officer Dr Reuphillan Pelser earlier said “the unfortunate incident is threatening to derail and possibly jeopardise this year’s skiing season which will be detrimental not just to the resort, but also to the many Basotho employed there permanently and part-time, the tourism of Butha Buthe and Lesotho, and the image and economy of the country.”

She says every skiing season hundreds of tourist vehicles pass through the borders of Lesotho daily.

“The Butha Buthe border alone receives an average 122 vehicles that pay M75.00 each, nearly M10,000 daily or and up to M1,000,000 for the season. This is the least of the losses that the country will suffer if we allow this conflict to drag on longer than it has.” said Pelser.
