๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿšจ Kim Jong Un Inspects Missile Bases Amid Rising Tensions with the U.S. and Allies

SEOUL, Oct 23 โ€“ North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has conducted visits to missile bases to assess their readiness for actions of "strategic deterrence," according to state media reports released on Wednesday. During these inspections, Kim expressed concerns over the United States' nuclear capabilities, labeling them as an "ever-increasing threat" to North Korea's security.

Kim emphasized the necessity for Pyongyang to maintain a robust counteraction posture in response to the U.S. strategic nuclear arsenal, which he views as a significant challenge to his country's defense. This visit comes as North Korea intensifies its development of ballistic missiles and nuclear weaponry, actions that have drawn widespread international sanctions.

The backdrop of Kim's visit includes escalating tensions with South Korea and its allies. Reports have emerged regarding the potential deployment of North Korean troops to Russia to participate in the conflict in Ukraine, a claim that North Korea has firmly denied.

As geopolitical tensions continue to rise, Kim's actions highlight the ongoing military developments in the region and the fragile security landscape surrounding North Korea.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿšจ Monrovia โ€“ On Thursday, Representative Marvin Cole, the House Chairman on Rules, Order, and Administration, barred access to the House chambers, stating that Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah would not lead the session. This conflict arose while House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa is in Europe accompanying President Joseph Boakai.

On Thursday, Cole was captured on video harshly criticizing Deputy Speaker Fallah, calling him a "criminal" and accusing him of endangering the safety and integrity of fellow lawmakers. During the heated exchange, Cole exclaimed, "You're a big rogue; do you think weโ€™ll allow you to play with our lives? We will never do it," and cautioned Fallah against trying to enter the chambers, suggesting there would be serious repercussions.

This dispute arises amid rumors of a potential coup in the Capitol, as some House members are allegedly collecting signatures to remove Speaker Koffa. The reasons for this movement are not entirely clear, but it is believed that recent audits and new budget measures implemented by the Speaker may be contributing to the unrest.

Representative Cole was the chairman of the campaign that secured Koffa's position as Speaker. Notably, Cole, Fallah, and Koffa are all affiliated with the former ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

๐Ÿšจ๐ŸšจFinance Minister Ngafuan Avoids Questions on Controversial Salary Harmonization Policy

MONROVIA - Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan avoided directly answering questions about the Unity Party-led government's intentions regarding the controversial salary harmonization policy.

In a significant interview on ELBC, he was repeatedly pressed on whether the government would reverse the harmonization implemented by former CDC Finance Minister Samuel Tweah, but he did not provide a clear response.

Instead of giving a straightforward answer, Ngafuan redirected the discussion to the financial challenges he claims the current government inherited from the Weah administration. He stated that the government is facing a $15 million repayment to the Central Bank of Liberia in 2025, which he attributed to withdrawals made from reserves by the previous CDC government.

Ngafuan noted that there is an additional $18 million in unpaid ECOWAS taxes, which could have been allocated to reversing the salary harmonization policy if the Weah administration had remitted them. During the Unity Party's 2023 election campaign, reversing the harmonization was a key topic. However, despite repeated questioning from journalists, Ngafuan did not commit to any specific action, leaving the policy's future unclear.

The salary harmonization initiative, introduced during Samuel Tweah's time in office, has faced significant criticism for its effects on civil servants' wages. The policy remains a contentious topic, and the public is keenly awaiting the new government's position on it.
