Over the years, Businesses/Employers have complained that youths/job seekers lacks the capacity to occupy vacant positions at various companies/NGOs thus creating a huge margin of unemployment and the hiring of qualified foreigners to fill these vacancies. While on the other hand, Youths are complaining that there’s no opportunity (jobs, scholarship, training, networking and internship) to enable

them get employed or seek career development. Efforts pursuant to mitigating the above mentioned challenges and bridging the gap between employers and job seeking youths in Liberia, Mercy Corps, through its PROSPECT PHASE II program, supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Liberia, seeks to connect the two (employers and youths) through a new social business model called New Day. FOR EMPLOYERS:

• Easy-access recruitment – Post a job online, or through our journal
• Shortlisting dashboard – See applicants as they come in, find the right person for you
• Applicants are vetted, tested, and recommended by New Day

FOR YOUTH:

• One-stop-shop information about jobs and other opportunities, available in newspaper and ultimately online
• Read tips to help you get a job, and find out about what’s on for young people in Liberia
• Simple application process for a wide range of jobs
• Training opportunities

The New Day services will be delivered through the following channels:

Newspaper - Over the last few years, we conducted a great deal of research among youths to understand what will be most useful for them. Our research showed that about 80% of youths used newspapers as a means of information and opportunities (jobs, scholarships, training, internship, etc). Website - For businesses, the website will be a comprehensive source of high quality job seeking youths. Our surveys indicate that many businesses/employers go through a lot of difficulties in finding the right youth for positions. Businesses will also be able to post opportunities (jobs, internship, events, and adverts) on the website.
